A few weeks before our planned weekend near Lincoln, impressed by the reviews on UKCampsite.co.uk we decided to take a look at Trentfield so dropped in unannounced and asked to look round.
The chap in reception (sorry, we're not good at remembering names!) was very friendly, answered all our questions, gave us a short guided tour and some printed information and told us to feel free to walk around and check the place out.
We prefer the informal, pitch-where-you-like approach so we had hoped to plot up in the rally field, but on arrival for our weekend stay, due to a large group camping in the rally field, we were were allocated two pitches (a friend was joining us in her tent) on the main field.
The site wasn't too busy so this was fine, plus it gave us an opportunity to enjoy the rare luxury of mains electricity and water 10 steps away.
We were particularly impressed by:
Clean, well-maintained site and facilities.
Exceptionally friendly and helpful staff, in the form of two Scottish brothers (see my earlier comment about names).
Great location for people who, like us, enjoy peace and quiet. The site is surrounded by open countryside and there's good (albeit mostly flat) walking along the riverbank, lanes and footpaths.
Assurance from the wardens that they will ask anyone making noise after 11pm to be quiet - something we consider essential on a site which claims to offer peace and quiet.
Other good bits:
Handy for Lincoln (20 minute drive).
Good, value-for-money food at the Ferryboat Inn just up the road.
Lots of information available about what's to see and do in the area.
Not-so-good bits:
We think that if the site was very busy the main field could get too crowded for our personal preference.
Some reviewers have mentioned the power station. It's fairly well screened by trees along the border of the site but if your unit is facing that way it could be a minor visual irritant. We didn't hear any noise from it.
We could be picky and suggest that the site lighting could be improved (several bright spotlights but still some dark areas around the main site), but that's a tricky balance - too many lights and you lose the feel of being in the country. And frankly, anyone who goes camping without a torch really ought to stick to B&Bs.
Costs:
We paid £16 a night for two people in a caravan, plus £2. 50 a night for electricity. There would have been no charge for our awning, had we used it. Our friend paid £16 a night for her small tent.
Two course Sunday lunch and drinks for three at the Ferryboat Inn for under £40, less £6 discount because we had two pitches on Trentfield Farm site.
Why haven't we given Trentfield 10 out of 10 for everything? Because we've yet to find our perfect site - but Trentfield is one of the better sites we've visited and we'll definitely return.

The facilities at Trentfield farm are excellent, Book exchange, Pot washing, vending machine with those forgotten essentials, a nice touch and the laundry.
The showers are exceptional and were spotlessly clean at all times. The staff could not be more helpful or cheerful.
A lovely walk along the river finds a good old English pub serving excellent food. Were only there one night so did not venture very far however it dose appear to be a good location with plenty of things to do, places to see close by.
Would definitely go again and will highly recommend it to friends and family.

Was not sure what to expect here as was our first trip in our tent, but was not disappointed,
On arrival my partner was given the choice of where to pitch up, he chose along the embankment to the river trent, I arrived a bit later than him and on my arrival I did not go to reception as I should have done, just went straight to the pitch, it did not take long for the warden to come over - which is good for security of the site.
The pitch was a really good size not cramped and not too near other tents and we parked 2 cars on our pitch as well. The views were stunning and there were some lovely walks to be had nearby to the camp.
The facilities were top notch, I have never seen such clean facilities as they have here although one small little gripe is there could be a few more toilets and showers but not a major issue. I did not have to queue for long for the shower. There are only 3 toilets and 3 showers in the block- but then on the end of the block is a porta cabin which has 2 showers in it and is being used as a family shower room, really handy if you have kids. The showers were lovely and hot and free and quite powerful.
There is a laundry room wash up area with about 8 sinks, a vending machine with items like milk, butter eggs, bacon and sausages in it as well as chocolate and a few drinks, excellent if you have forgotten a few essentials,
There is a power station not far from the camp site that you can see and 2 of our party of 4 got woke up with a loud bang at 3 in the morning presumably from the power station, I never heard it but I am a heavy sleeper, but you really would not know it was there to be honest as the scenery detracts from this.
The site overall was very friendly, clean and well worth the money, I have no hesitation in recommending.
The pub the ferryboat inn is definitely worth a trip, its about a 10 min walk from the camp site, we walked on the river bank to get there. The food was excellent portion sizes very good, service very good nothing too much trouble, and excellent value for money, would go back without a doubt.
Overall had a brilliant weekend - thanks to all at Trentfields and the Ferryboat for making our weekend break excellent, we look forward to seeing you again very soon - hopefully before the weather turns too cold.

POSITIVES: well-spaced pitches, friendly and helpful staff, exceptionally well-maintained facilities (cleaned several times a day), flat and even pitches, secluded location.
Washing facilities available for small fee. Vending machine selling milk, sausages, bacon, eggs, etc. , which we found very handy. Freezer for freezing ice-packs. Large, covered washing-up area with several sinks. Lovely walk along river to nearby pub where we had reasonably-priced Sunday lunch.
No children's play area but plenty of space for children to run around.
NEGATIVES: the campsite was very full, resulting in quite long queues for showers. Being in a tent means noises are very easy to hear, so sounds from the power station (which was visible from our pitch) carried in the night air and were disturbing to anyone who is a light sleeper.
Ice pack got stolen (it was labelled with our name) and the freezer was overflowing with everyone's ice packs because there were so many people.
£31 a night, not including hook-up, was very expensive for a family of five in a smallish four-man tent plus pup tent.
OVERALL: If the site allows so many people at one time, they should invest in a few more showers and a second freezer.
We paid the same earlier in the year (elsewhere) for 6 nights, but at Trentfield we stayed only 3, so even allowing for Bank Holiday mark-up it was over-priced.
Having said that, it is a good site (the staff work very hard to keep it that way). If it was more reasonably priced we would return.

We had visited this site before and had a good weekend, we were in the middle of the field but that was ok, so I decided to book again. The warden said he would put us in the rally field this time as there was no rally on. I thought it would be quiet but we were mixed in with tents and we were in a caravan - they were drinking a lot and making noise till midnight. The camp says the noise is to be quiet at 10 30 but these people did not seem to care. I did complain to the camp and they said the warden walk round at 11. 30. It was expensive for what you get

Just returned from a weekend at Trentfield.
Booked mainly for its closeness to Sundown (literally a 5 minute drive).
The reviews were pretty accurate, the location alongside the river is fantastic, the power station isn't visible from the majority of pitches and the noise really is minimal, I would say that the planes on approach to EMA and DSA were more noisy but again nothing major.
We stayed in the main field, which was pretty full as well as there being a rally in the rally field, the place didn't seem overly busy and there was plenty of space for the kids to play ball and run around. All the pitches were level and well kept, with water at every EHU point (1 to 4 pitches). The pitches are spacious we had plenty of room for medium tent and Zafira, while some had large caravan, awning and 4 by 4 on them again without feeling squashed in.
The walk to the pub even with a 6 and 3 year old is only 15 minutes and the welcome we got was fantastic, even down to Malc arranging for the card machine to be driven up from the campsite so we could settle or bill by Switch. The food was home cooked and very good value indeed, shame we couldn't stay for the karokee that was planned for that evening.
The facilities on the site are clean and plentiful, and again never seemed full, the information in the welcome pack provided was excellent and staff knowledgeable about both the camp and the local area.
Asda and Morrisons in Retford around 20 mins drive away, which also has the usual collection of takeaways etc.

We needed to find a campsite near to Sherwood Forest and Clumber Park / Sundown adventureland as well as being able to walk for something to eat and drink within walking distance. In addition it needed to have the usual needs of decent toilets / safe environment etc. Very pleased to say that’s what we got.
The welcome from the wardens was warm and friendly, and the park itself is immaculate (lots of flowers/ not a spot of litter / and fully tiled and heated toilets!)Even the Elsan point had flowers round it! The locations lovely right next to the river, with miles of riverside walks, the dog loved it!
Cycling here would also be great as there are rafts of unadopted roads around the park. (Sadly we did not bring ours). There are 2 parts to the park one side being mainly caravans and what look like seasonal pitches as well as a camping field which also had hook ups (Try and ask for these!, they get the best sun). Water points are central, and adjacent to the caravan posts.
The nearly power plant is noticeable, but screened by trees, so it’s not actually visible from the park, and did not make any noise whist we were there, and certainly did not detract from our stay.
Not a lot to do on the site itself apart from caravan / camp and chill, but it’s such a relaxing place. The facilities are great (no shop, but a 24 hour “vending shop” carrying all the essentials, and besides they try and get people to support the local shop in the next village, also an information point for local attractions. There are 2 pay washing machines and a tumble drier. For washing up there were 7 sinks (lots of HW). The family shower room is a great idea, and apparently that’s going to be updated next year with the recycling area.
The local pub is a 5 -10 minute walk up the riverside path. We had a bite to eat there on Friday night, and had Sunday lunch (You get a free late stay/ arrival if you book it at the park!) It was just great, the garden centre here must do really well as the pubs covered in flowers too. A proper family owned country pub selling beer brewed in the village (The Brewery do tours but we did not do one), and scrummy Sunday lunch, which was great value. Would think it gets busy during the holiday season as there is a large static site also in the village.
Will we go back? most certainly! We spoke to some guests that had been coming for 7 years, for the same week each year, and they had nothing but praise for the park.
Thanks to the great wardens, and “Blue” at the Ferry Boat for making our stay hugely enjoyable, next time we might be able to visit some of the other local attractions.

Just returned from a second visit this year to Trentfield.
Excellent welcome the staff even remembered we had already been this year.
Camping at the side of the Trent is fantastic, with lots of walks for the dog.
The site and facilities are clean and tidy. The on site vending machine was used as I forgot something essential, which I realised when cooking breakfast.
On this occasion we were in the field with the seasonal caravans, the pitches all appeared to be served with EHU, they also have water to every 4 pitches so not to far to roll the carrier.
Some have commented on the power station, but we have not noticed it on either visit, the site has plenty trees surrounding it you forget it is there.
Best piece of news is the Ferryman Pub has re-opened, a warm and friendly welcome from the landlord, with some excellent beer available.

Welcome at reception was excellent, very friendly staff, Wardens very polite, campsite was very clean as were the facilities, spacious pitches though could get a little windy at times.
Welcomed dogs but no poo bins anywhere that we found. Great walks for the dog.
There was no shop but a vending machine for some essentials.
Some complain about the 'nearby' power station, It was noisy the week end we stayed, sounded like a helicopter most of the 2nd night, night 3 were loud bangs.
The pub down the road was closed, though campsite were in process of buying.

This was our second visit to Trentfield, we stayed a similar time last year. Check for previous review for improvements.
The shower block has been upgraded to a very good standard. Plenty of room and lots of hot water ideal when showering the kids.
Friendly welcome and all staff very helpful.
A portable family bathroom was being delivered when we arrived and this was up and running by the next day. This had been there the previous year but I hadn't realised it wasn't permanent. I think it is staying now.
The pitch is very flat just watch for the thorns from the hedge in the grass.
Ecellant base for the surrounding area, Retford has takeaways and supermarkets. For National Trust people Clumber Park is not too far away and a good place to visit.
We were in the tent field which did get quite full over the weekend but we weren't on top of each other.
It was quite windy the first couple of days and the canopy blew off.
There is some nice walks along the river and I have had a mail saying the pub has reopened nearby so that will make the walk even better. We visited the brewery in the village and this is definitely worth a try.
