Netherwood House touring site is a very pleasant site but the facilities really are in need of updating/upgrading. The facilities are housed at the rear of the main house. The male area of these facilities consist of 1 x urinal, 1 x toilet, 1 x small wash basin and 1 x very dilapidated shower enclosure which suffers from a faulty on/off switch on the electric shower unit which means the main pull switch has to be used to use the unit.

The shower area is so small that in order to open/close the door, the actual shower tray has to be stepped in to. With the facilities being at one end of the site, anyone with any disabilities may find it a long trek from one end of the site to the facilities. The water point is also located at the facilities point making it a quite a long walk when pulling a water hog container or carrying a full toilet cassette. One elderly caravanner was seen to be driving to the water point and toilet disposal point because of the distance.

The 'washing-up'/vegetable preparation area consists of just two well worn/past their sell by date sinks with just a cold water tap for each and no draining board.

This site is very well placed for the city of Chester and there is a Park & Ride facility just a short distance from the site which will take you right into the centre of the city. Buses depart every 10 minutes or so both directions. There are plenty of pubs within walking distance most of which serve food. A petrol station is just a few hundred yards on the main road selling everyday food needs etc.

The owner of this site is a pleasant lady who lives on-site in the main large house.

Apart from the points mentioned above, this is a very well kept site which has a very large Rabbit population augmented with Wood pigeons to give an early morning call!

A small and well maintained site within easy distance to Chester. Toilet and shower facilities are very clean and adequate for the size of the site. Other facilities likewise, but not sure whether all of this justified the site fees which I found a bit expensive.

Other downside is the background noise created by nearby roads and a rail-line. A few of our party found this a problem, although ear plugs came to my rescue on our second night.

Plenty of places to eat and drink close by. If you want to go a bit further afield than both the Harverster and Cheshire Cat, I'd suggest the Plough. It's a more traditional pub, with a friendly and welcoming atmosphere.

Chester is around an hour's walk from the site along the canal toe-path. Walk is worth a try as there's lots to see along the way. Main tip is to avoid driving into Chester if you can avoid it - parking is pretty expensive and there are park and ride facilities.

Also worth flagging that the site is close to the Cheshire Oaks shopping outlet.

Nice quiet spacious wee site, about an hours walk or 20 mins gentle cycle into Chester along the canal.

Can get the bus from Christleton - we walked in and bus back. Last bus back pretty early though- about 19. 05 if I remember correctly.

Didn't really rate the Ring O' Bells, which is very much a meals pub (and we didn't have a great meal there) but there is another pub, the Plough, a couple of stops further on (another 10 mins walk at most) which was better. Liked the Cheshire Cat too.

Would recommend this site.

A small, nicely situated site about 2 miles outside Chester.

Pitches are grass and the one allocated to us meant that the rear of the van was under the overhanging hedge but a quick trim via the roof light at least kept it from touching the top of the van.

Toilet facilities were clean but, with only one toilet cubicle and one shower in the mens area you had to choose your time to get access, particularly at the weekend when the site was full.

The site backs onto the canal which not only gave interest but provided a towpath for an easy walk into Chester (about an 3/4 hour) or to the two eating places 15 minutes or so along the towpath.

We ate at the Cheshire Cat which is part of a chain but both the food and the service were good.

Chester is a charming town and well worth a visit.

This is an adults only site. It is a very small site. Really just a field out the back of a house. However, it is well arranged and is a really nice site.

It's a little bit narrow getting into the site. There is one shower and 2 toilets. Clean and lots of hot water. There is also a room with lots of information about things to see in the local area. There is no laundry.

It is around a 1 hour easy walk along the towpath into Chester. Chester is a wonderfully preserved city with lots to see.

There is a pub (The Cheshire Cat) that serves nice meals around 10 minute walk down the towpath. Another 10 minutes down the towpath is a Harvester Pub.

Would recommend this site.

What a great site and location. Good sized hook up pitches in fantastic spacious established rear field/garden. Some campers had their four legged friends with them and had bags of room to exercise them in an adjoining field.

Very peaceful and quiet we found although fairly close to the main road. Not much for kids, I guess they would have to be happy to make their own entertainment, and there's plenty of room to do that!

The toilet/shower facilities we found were really well thought out, well lit & very clean with free shower & hairdryer.

A stroll down the canal brings you into Chester, approx 3/4hr passing various watering holes on the way! There is an info cabin with bus routes, eating places etc all very helpful.

A stroll into the village of Christleton, just a few mins, brings you to the Ring O Bells pub/restaurant, we found this to be ideal with a great outdoor area.

Loved the site and our host, we hope to return soon.

As said previously, nice and quiet, with spacious pitches and well laid out. Facilities clean but basic. No shop and there was only the nearby garage for basic milk and bread etc. I had the last loaf around 2.30pm so you need to go early. No shops locally but turning right from the canal gate you could walk about a mile to the bridge and up onto the road turn right to find a small 'One Stop' mini supermarket which had the basics (can't see the shop from the bridge - it is round the bend in the road).

Walked left from the site where you pass some large properties with their own moorings and ate at the Harvester, which was busy even mid week. The mixed grill is a good plateful! Used the park and ride, right out of the site and signposted just before the large roundabout. £1.70 return if you do not have a free bus pass.

Chester is unique and the walk around the walls is very enjoyable as are the galleried shops. An hour's drive took us to Birkenhead for the ferry across The Mersey which was £5 and included a short cruise up the Mersey on the return journey. Very cold and windy on the Mersey so take a coat! Ellesmere Port Boat Museum kept us interested for five hours!

Visited this site for the first time this weekend, as first outing in the 'van' this year and didn't want to go too far away. We have tried to book here before but, as it is a small and very popular site, we have been unsuccessful a couple of times.

Off main road, enter at 90 degrees to driveway to the side of the house, where Reception is through a side window (you have to pull on the big bell and ring the doorbell also for attention). Owner very welcoming and check-in quick and efficient.

On going further up the drive, this then opens onto the field, which is quite open with trees/shrubs around the edge and in the centre. Keep right to follow the road round to your pitch, which we found to be quite spacious (we were on No. 7) - we had no trouble backing our van in and hooking up to the 10 Amp post.

Facilities are small but ample for the size of the site (only fifteen pitches). One (free) shower, one urinal and one proper loo in Gents; one (free) shower and two proper loos in Ladies - spotlessly clean, with loo roll, soap dispenser (three coat hooks in Ladies' facilities, with a further two hooks inside the shower cubicle). Outside, Elsan disposal, food preparation sink, dishwashing sink and drinking water tap, together with information shed, bins, etc.

The site is quite near to the main A41 road, but we found road noise to be minimal and slept undisturbed. The site itself is very quiet and the ideal place to unwind, with no noisy unruly types and no children.

A gate to the rear of the site puts you right on the towpath of the canal. Take a left towards Chester - within 10 minutes you will arrive at The Cheshire Cat (we didn't go in) and within 20 minutes you will arrive at The Harvester Pub, which did seem very busy.

We will return again and again!

Our second visit, won't be the last. This feels like a Certificated Site, and that's meant as a compliment: it's like being in someone's big back garden with facilities in the outhouse. Very reasonable cost too. Toilets are spotlessly clean, with free shower and free hairdryer, and there was no waiting on our visit. Widely spaced level sunny grass pitches. Great for dog - the next door lawn and the canal path just a dash away. Recycling boxes and dog poo bins too (both absent on many bigger sites). Park and Ride nearby with directions posted so motorhomes can avoid the overhead gantry there. A mild complaint might be the road noise, but it's background noise compared to the canal ducks and Chester's cathedral bells. We'd recommend this site without hesitation.

Just returned from a four night stay at Netherwood and found our stay very enjoyable. Its location is great just alongside the canal, and we had a great day walking both into and back from Chester, we even managed a walk around the walls while we were there.

The facilities are very clean but a bit on the cramped side, one loo plus urinal and shower in the gents.

Cheshire Cat pub is the nearest on the canal but a bit pricey for quality of food on the plate, worth walking a bit further to next public house.
