This was our first camping trip (well since school some 20 years ago!), and this site was perfect for us. The staff were friendly and helpful, finding us a spot even thought the 'park full' sign was up when we arrived. The toilets and showers were spotless and there was plenty of free hot water for showers and washing up. We ate at the New Dungeon Ghyll hotel which was a short walk away. The food was not cheap, but was definitely home cooked rather than pre-made. They take cards too, so you don't need to worry about carrying much cash. The scenery was breathtaking and if walking is your thing, you will have a great time here. The fact that you can't book in advance may be a hindrance if you like to plan, but if you can just turn up, then this is the place for you.

Once again a great visit. Stayed for just the one night in a single man tent and although the site was busy I found a good pitch.
Showers were hot and free. Toilets were clean. Drying room useful.
The views were excellent and the ODG was as good as ever.
Staff were friendly and helpful and for £4.50 p.p a night this must be the best value campsite anywhere.
They had just added a camping pod too which looked interesting!

8 of us have visited Great Langdale a few times, this site is fantastic, everything you need is there. As there are a few of us we always find a quiet corner so as not to disturb anyone. As there is no bookings taken we have found it difficult to pitch sometimes and when there have been no ranges around we have pitched and then been told to move on which is quite disapointing, we are a mixed crowd of people and like to walk and visit placed during the day then chill out with a drink on an evening. Looking at the group this has meant that sometimes on arrival we have been turned away which has been quite annoying too.
However the site is great and I would reccomend it to anyone, the showers and toilets are clean and free and there is no problem with hot water. We are there this weekend not to camp but to walk and we will be heading up in the summer for weekend. Hope we get a pitch. Try great langdale you are sure to enjoy it.

We stayed here for one night in April when the weather was good. It was our first camping trip and we were really please we'd chosen Great Langdale as it was really peaceful. The scenery is fantastic and it was great to wake up in the morning listening to mother nature (plenty of sheep nearby). We went to the pub in the evening, enjoyed the food and wandered back to the campsite. The facilities are good, basic but clean. Its a great place to stay for a cheap holiday in the most amazing area, great for walking or just visting local attractions. We'll be back again next year as we didn't get chance to return this year.

We stayed at this site for 1 night and I cannot do anything but complement it.
We arrived mid morning and the reception was shut - so we pitched up and paid later. £4.50 per adult and £3 for the car.
The site is split into various areas - family, groups and general. We went in the family part as this is where the adventure playground is.
The facilities are good and clean and the showers are free. Pot washing area, a disabled toilet/shower room and a drying room are provided too.
This is a good site situated in a beautiful area with plenty of walks to be done nearby.
It is also well served by pubs with 3 being a fifteen minute walk.

We stayed here for just one night and we loved it! The staff were friendly and helpful, advising us on where was good to pitch and even lending us a spare OS map as OH happened to mention we had forgotten ours. The location of the site is fantastic, the view you wake up to is wonderful and it goes without saying that it's a walkers' paradise. The facilities are very good and scrupulously clean and we were very impressed to note that they have a drying room you can put your stuff in if it gets wet. Our only niggle is that there's no curtain in the shower, so if you're not careful, your dry clothes will get wet from the shower water. But we'll certainly be back.

Stayed here for the first time to walk the langdale pikes, we phoned friday morning to ensure there would be space after readin other reviews of this site as we wouldn't be arriving until 8pm Friday night, fortunately there was plenty of space
Lovely sheltered site with seperate sites for groups, families and couples, grass is a bit long now tho and could do with cutting! there are two facilities blocks which are fantastic as you don't have to walk too far no matter where you are pitched on the site, showers are free and extremely hot! which is just what you need after a long walk on the fells
There are no electric hook ups on site but there are electric points in the facilities block if you want to take a hairdryer etc (none provided), the only other issue with the toilets are there are no hand drying facilities (paper towels or hand dryer) so take a towel with you!
They do operate a no noise after 11pm rule, this was adhered to on the Friday night but a bit noisier on Sat night til after 12
Pub across the road ODG, serves great reasonably priced food and great beer but gets very busy, we couldn't get in at 6pm on the sat night so had to travel to Elterwater and went to Britannia Inn, meals there a bit more expensive but nice and service very quick!
Shop on site was good selling walking accessories and bits and bobs you may have forgotten, basic food and toiletries etc
If you get here late you can just pitch and they come round in the morning to collect your fee
I love this site and will definitely be back!

Stayed here for one night and it is the most idyllic location. The staff are friendly and helpful, the showers hot and everything clean and tidy. Had no problems finding a space but I was just out of season and staying a Monday night. They were full the week before! Of possible interest - I overheard one of the NT assistants saying that a booking system may be on its way for this campsite . But all it will mean is that the weekends will get booked up months in advance.

We had a lovely overnight break at Great Langdale. We arrived early Sunday afternoon and were surprised at how busy the site still was, but got a nice pitch with lots of room. We were impressed with the division of families and adults - although a separate field for dogs might also not go amiss as there were a couple of really bark-y ones when we were there! Facilities were plentiful and clean if basic. The shop was very well equipped - most useful as we forgot matches and a spare butane gas canister. The 11 p.M. - 7 a.M. Rule was observed. There were a number of car parking areas that ran along the side of the camping fields so not being able to park on your pitch was much less of a hassle than we anticipated. Views are stunning in every direction - it was amazing zipping open the tent first thing on a Monday morning to the fells and bright blue sky. A lovely, peaceful location. There are a number of walks straight out of the campsite. We didn't visit any of the local pubs but can recommend the Britannia Inn at Elterwater - mentioned in one of the walks you can buy for £2.50 from reception.

Spent the bank holiday week here because of reviews I'd read on this website. What a wonderful site. We arrived on the friday before the bank holiday - and took on other people's advice from this forum to get there early on the Friday, as it was full by lunchtime. Our timing was fortunate, as we pitched in the best spot (in my opinion anyway). We pitched at a brilliant spot in the field at the back (which has the sloping pitches under the trees) at the corner, on the non-sloping side nearest to the field, nearest to the toilet block. This gave us an unobstructed view of the Langdale Pikes, the Band and Bow Fell. We had no problem with putting in our tent pegs in this spot. You may also find that the farmer, as we did, that the sheep are put onto this field for a while - on one night, it was a full moon and seemed to be a party night for sheep as they were extremely noisy all night, bleating loudly into the very early hours of the morning! And then we were woken by sheep munching on the grass by the fence right by our tent. Bless them. The only problem with pitching near the trees, is that they make an awful loud rustling noise in the wind! And unfortunately, it was quite windy on a few nights of our stay, and the noise kept me awake. So if you are a light sleeper, take some earplugs with you too. The location of the campsite is just a perfect location for getting to other places in the Lake District, as well as a great base for exploring the Great Langdale area. The campsite was great, although, I agree with other reviewers' complaints about there being no hand-drying facilities - and also don't forget to take some soap! The pressure and temperature of the shower varied according with what time of the day I had my shower. The food in StickleBarn is lovely! We didn't eat in the Old Dungeon, but noticed that their portions are huge. This was my second-ever time camping, and I loved it sooo much that I am sure I will be back again soon!
