July 2004 Just returned from 3 nights at this campsite and we had a great time. There is a family field and a non family field. There is a small play area in the middle of the family field, lots of balancing things but no swings, slide etc. There are plenty of toilets, showers. There is a large washing up room. All cleaned every day. There was plenty of hot water and loo roll in the toilets. There are electric sockets in the toilets to use a hair dryer. There was also a drying room, didnt use but presume for wet clothes. The cost was £10.50 per night for two adults and car my three year old was free, which we felt was very good value. The site gets very full so best to ring in advance. The shop is open 8.30 - 10.00am or 4-5pm If you ring between these times you should get to speak to some one.

September 2002 My caravanning days are over. The grandchildren are too old now and so am I for the joys of towing. I am thinking about a campervan but they are a bit expensive. Unlike my dear wife, I love walking on the Cumbrian fells, so I bought a little igloo-like tent and set off for Great Langdale. This NT site was my first experience of camping for many a year. Everything was fine. The toilet facilities, shop, local bus service and weather. Evenings were spent supping Yeats Ale and eating Cumberland sausages in the Old Dungeon Ghyll Hotel which was only a short stagger away. A full Monty breakfast was available at the New DGH a little way in the other direction down the dale. The surrounding scenery was great and I managed to ascend the Crinkle Crags one day. There is a big choice of fells round about. Since I am retired, I will visit campsites when the youngsters are busy with their studies at school. I imagine that many campsites can have problems when they are operating at full capacity. Langdale was an enjoyable experience.

August Bank holiday weekend
The surrounding countryside is fantastic. We arrived on the Thursday night to try and get a decent spec, however the site was virtually full and we ended up at the very back of the site (although the view was great). The nearby pubs are great with loads of Real Ales.
On the downside however are the showering facilities at this site. The toilets were NOT clean and some of them had no 'locks' on the doors. The showers were appalling, the water just ran down the walls and the smell as i approached the shower block was quite nasty.
To be fair I had chosen one of the busiest weeks of the year for my visit and maybe thats why water power was so low (although this does not excuse no locks etc). All in all the area is fantastic, but if like me you judge a site by clean toilets etc then I feel you will be disappointed.

august 2003 First trip out in our new tent, used to caravanning. Loved the site and will definitely return. Scenery spectacular, staff friendly and helpful, well stocked shop open at useful times, free hot water for showers/pot washing, plenty of showers/wc's, playarea for children, separate family field. Could be a walk from where you park your car to where you pitch your tent. Great walking from the site onto the Langdales, Crinkle Craggs, Bowfell and Pike o'Blisco and for the more adventurous Scarfell Pike.

July 2003 I stayed at this site for a couple of nights with a fairly large group of friends and children. Really impressed with the setting, facilities and helpful, friendly staff. First experience of camping for my kids and they loved it. Good little adventure playground and plenty of space to play rounders etc. Definitely intend to return this year, good value for money and fantastic scenery.

September 2002 This is a great site. You can walk out of it straight onto the mountains.
When we were there there were queues for the showers but the campsite was very busy. The shower block was clean and the hot water free.
The scenery is gobsmacking and I would return just to wake up in the morning surrounded by such awesome majesty!

Just returned from 3 day stay at site over bank hol.Lots of space on family site on Fri,but filled up Sat.Level, dry site with spectacular views.Shop usefully contained essential items,ie bacon and was open at useful times also. Friendly atmosphere on site and jolly warden and staff.Parking a bit tight, but cars etc not allowed on camp field;great as kids can run about without fear of cars.
Approx 300 yards from Old Dungeon Ghyll pub with lots of yummy real ale and good sized portion food. Also Britannia Inn 3 miles down road, starting and ending place for many walks. Can there be a better looking pub in Lake district, when sun is shining. For nibbles, ask for basket of chips at £1.50 and wash down with some Dent Aviator or some other fine ale.
