I have been to this site several times now. It has always been a good experience. The showers have always had hot water and I have never had to queue, even when the site has been busy. There are also electric sockets in the shower blocks for hairdryers. The shop is well stocked and the staff are friendly and helpful. In the middle of the family field is a small play area which keeps younger children amused. The views of the mountains are spectacular and there are some good pubs within walking distance. The only downside is that the site fees are on the expensive side.

What a great site! Booked in advance as we were a small group doing a charity walk. Everything was very straight forward. On arrival told where to pitch, not an exact pitch but an area to pitch in. Ground conditions mean you really need a mallet but the location is incredible right under the Langdale pikes. In the morning went to the shop for fresh baked croissants, pain au chocolate and baguettes. After a long day on the hills had food in the Stickle Barn, pub owned by the NT, great pizzas made freshly in the pizza oven outside. Came back had a shower, some of our party found the pressure was poor if all the showers were in use. I found shower to be too hot and no means of changing temp. In the morning I reported this to reception who told me a new boiler had just been fitted and they were playing with it to try and get it right. In summary well run site, with great clean facilities, including 2kids play areas, and recycling facilities in an amazing location. Down side? Don't forget the midge spray and your mallet!

We stayed at this site over half term holiday for 3 nights and rate it as one of the best campsites we have stayed in.
Whilst there were 100+ pitches, the layout was such that it didn't feel crowded, being split into 5 areas.
The staff were friendly, the shop offered a good range of products and it was situated near the National Trust's only pub!
In addition to this it had its own mini climbing wall as well as offering activities for all ages.
The only slight let down was not being able to have campfires, but the location and the walks available in its vicinity made up for this.

Just back from a wonderful three day stay at this fantastic site. We booked last minute and the staff couldn't have been more helpful. We had to move pitch after one night, but that was no problem - we were just thrilled they could accommodate us.
The site is in a spectacular location with great walks, mountains and pubs literally on the doorstep.
The friendly staff at the site shop have fresh baked baguettes, croissants and pain-au-chocolat for sale each morning with coffee - a real treat!
The toilet/shower blocks were always clean and we didn't have to queue. The showers themselves were powerful and hot - just what was needed after a day of climbing or scrambling.
The climbing traverse wall was a great hit with our teenagers (where they find the energy from after a day of fell walking, I have no idea!). There was a park too for younger children, and around pitches 200 to 205, which overlook a stream, someone had thoughtfully hung a rope swing, which they also enjoyed.
The site also has a no noise after 11pm rule, although it was quiet much earlier than that, which was lovely and added to the peaceful, family atmosphere.
I can't recommend this site highly enough, and we all want to return, sooner rather than later.

We visited the National Trust site over the first May Bank Holiday weekend. My overall impression of the site was summed up by the great staff team that they have there. Enthusiastic, friendly and welcoming.
It was our first time at a NT site. The toilet facilities were good and kept very clean by the team. They're building a new block but this wasn't open when we were there.
The on-site shop is superbly stocked and well priced. Warm croissants, bread rolls and coffee/tea on offer every morning made the trip back from the morning shower even better! This is a real benefit to the site as it is a little bit of a trek to the local shops a few miles down the road.
Turn left or turn right out of the site and you've got two great pubs within a 10 minute stroll. The sticklebarn is owned by the NT and again has a superb team running it and some great food. The old Dungeon Ghyll hotel is a little more rustic but some great ales and simple pub food.
The walking from the site is spectacular and just what you'd expect from the Great Langdale Valley.
We don't have children but there was a good play park for them, on the new facilities block they're building a traverse climbing wall and there's no end of space for the kids to run at!
My only point to make would be that the 2 hardstanding pitches that they have at the site are very close to the shop/shower block but are an extension of the car park so you don't get the full beauty of the site. But Hey, when you've got all that beauty to walk at you're not going to spend time worrying about the pitch.

Have just spent 3 nights at this campsite. Wish we could have stayed longer. On arrival were given a pitch on a reserved field (not family field) and put tent up in pouring rain. Following morning woke up to brilliant blue skies and fabulous views of the mountains, good drainage for tent (thank goodness). Plenty of space between tents. Toilets, showers always clean. Dry room for wet clothes always full on wet days but managed to dry our clothes in the tent. Saw people washing their pots and pans in the laundry room on quite a few occasions which I was surprised at as only saw 1 or 2 people queuing for pots washing. Fabulous base for walking, our car never moved the whole time we were there. 3 pubs within walking distance. We came to this site over 20 years ago and it is nice to see they now have group areas, family areas and quieter areas. There is a quiet curfew of 11pm which was adhered to the first 2 nights but on the third night we had to tolerate a family of 4 adults talking, shouting and laughing until 12. 25am and not giving any consideration to any other campers who were trying to get to sleep. Loved the site and it is especially great for families. Our son loved the climbing wall but we could have gone to a more basic site as we didn't really use the facilities and it would have been a lot less expensive.

Easter 2013. Great Langdale National Trust Campsite as always a great site. Apart from being a little pricey we have no negative comments. Its in a stunning location with walking straight from the site. So what it costs in site fees you save on parking ! £5+ for allday parking through out the lakes.
Toilet and showers were always clean and well supplied Free hot showers and drying rooms. The site shop has most of the basics and some camping gear should you for get the begs pans etc. John and Tim kept us well informed of the conditions before we set off and are a wealth of local knowledge. We only ventured to the Old Dungeon Gyle Pub as it was so cold. The food was good plenty of it after a day in the hills. Roaring log fire good food good company and few nice ales bliss

We arrived unbooked mid week. A lot of the ground was very wet. So good pitches for campers were limited. The hard area for camper vans was a bit disappointing and was just like an urban car park - given the fantastic locality I think the NT could do a bit better. The site was nice and clean as we're all the facilities. Good location at the head of the valley but the site is enclosed by trees - good at masking the location from up on the fells but the farmers site lower down the valley at Bayesbrown Farm gives you 100 percent better views when you wake up.

This is an great campsite as one would expect form the National Trust and although a little expensive it has excellent facilities and they don't over book to ensure that it doesn't get too crowded, so you pay for what you get.
There are two toilet blocks each including a pot washing room and laundry/drying room. The toilets facilities were always clean and in a good condition and didn't get over crowded.
There's a shop in reception which is very well stocked and sells a good range of food (even fresh pastries some mornings) and camping supplies, including midge repellent.
We didn't booked in advance and we had to move our tent to higher ground when it rained but this was one of the wettest summers on record. You have to park along the access road through the site, not by your pitch, which is a little inconvenient but I think this is a good idea because it saves the grass and I could always get a space nearby.
The location of the site is great for anyone interested in walking and is surrounded by fells in all directions but its a bit of a drive from Ambleside but it has a couple of excellent pubs were you can buy meals within walking distance.
So in summary a really good site, and we'll almost certainly be back.

Mountain biking trip with the lads
On arrival quick book in, 2 tents and 4 adults, was a tad pricey at nearly £80 for 2 nights, as we were on the just turn up field.
Ground hard and stones as others say. Managed to get tents up and also a gazebo.
Biking done that day, we got the BBQ going and that later doubled as the fire pit. Great it was allowed, ok so long as no grass damage.
We pitched near the services block, so great as always rained the next days.
Always loo roll and great free showers always available.
Bins easily available as well.
Drying room was in use, a great thing to have on Site.
Shop seemed well stocked and staff friendly.
We visited the pubs on second night, food good.
Beers also good. Watched the England match.
Enjoyed the area and the site and will return. Thanks
