We stayed for 5 nights over May half-term with 2 adults & 2 children (10 & 8) in a tent. Overall we were very impressed and would love to return.
It's not a place with lots of attractions or entertainment on the site, but that's not what you'd expect (or want) in a place like this. It's very much about enjoying the area and the beauty of the location.
Pro’s
Superb location
The site went quiet by 11am each night (although we were in the emptier ‘New Field’)
The toilet block was very clean.
The staff were extremely helpful.
And finally a campsite with a good supply of proper hot water. No being stingy with lukewarm water or press taps that give 2 drops. Proper hot showers.
Cons:
Errr: I’m struggling to think of any.
The weather wasn’t great while we were there, with some heavy rain and strong wind, but that’s hardly the fault of the campsite. On one day a couple of tents were blown over, but the campsite staff did all they could, out in the lashing rain, to help the people. The campsite can’t control the weather, but they can control their response to it and it was excellent.
Overall we'd love to go back.

On a bike tour and I arrived late and just set up since reception had closed; the weather was horrendous that night and up to dinner the next day! Saw the staff next day and they took my payment, made me a coffee and bacon baguette which is great to have that available. Well stocked shop (maps, food, drink). They gave me some weather info and didn't bother me to leave my pitch till weather cleared after dinner. Toilets clean, laundry and pot washing area same. And a Drying Room! Which was much needed on my visit! Nice site.

This site is at the end of a rather narrow twisting road, but well worth the drive for the beautiful setting. We received a very friendly welcome from the warden, who gave us a map of the site as we hadn't been before. The site was full on the 2 nights we stayed, but because it is laid out in different sections it didn't feel crowded. However, as we were in a campervan and the 6 camper van pitches were already booked, we had to park on the hard standing next to the road, along with all the other campers' cars. It meant that there were people constantly walking past to the toilet block, and also, vehicles driving past very close at times, so we didn't have much privacy.
There were plenty of toilets and showers, which were always clean, and we didn't have to queue at all, despite the fact the site was full. There was also a shop in the reception area that seemed well stocked, although I didn't look too closely. We went to one of the local pubs, The Old Dungeon Ghyll Hotel, as we had gone for the folk festival there. It had a great atmosphere, but luckily we had taken all of our own food, as theirs was expensive.

The campsite has a first class backdrop, as you approach Langdale every turn in the road is a postcard. On the site there are plenty of trees to provide much need wind breaks when the weather dictates, but they also frame the surrounding peaks. Should the view be obscured you may find yourself shuffling sideways, as I did, so you can have another blast of the natural beauty.
We stayed in the family field which surrounds a small coppice with and adventure playground which my 7 and 11 year old became inseparable from. Not to mention the climbing / bouldering wall.
The Staff are very helpful and polite.
The Showers and toilets look used but are clean and kept to a good standard, and most importantly the showers are always hot which is a must after a hard days yomping in the hills.
Can't comment about 3 local pubs as After I checked the meals prices online I thought sod that!
There are numerous fantastic walks straight from the site. The Shop on site have these printed on waterproof paper for a small charge. 2 walks I would insist you have a go at is the Langdales and the Pike of Blisco.
Only been back a couple of days and I'm already checking the calendar planning the next stay.

A return visit for us. Upon arrival was expecting to be put in reserved field that was not for families, like last year, but either hubby cocked up booking or because of bad weather was put in family field. After initial shock of putting up tent in torrential downpour and where I did not want to be, it actually turned out brill. Kids were slightly older than other kids but they had a great time. Facilities were clean and plenty of them. In the family field, there is a play area in the middle set amongst some trees. It is a well located site for many walks, both easy and difficult. The views of the mountains are breathtaking and the one night we had clear skies, well amazing. No light pollution. A well returned visit.

I believe this is a national trust site. Managed to accommodate group of 6 vehicles with no pre booking. Good facilities over a large site seems to cater for all types of over door camping. Very popular with out door pursuits brigade. However £15 per tent is very expensive especially with 1 occupant. All you get for the extra money is a communal drying room. It rained very heavily so we moved to the pub just across from the campsite that has a walkers bar in it. Pleasant enough but very busy when its wet. A nice site but way overpriced

Two of us stayed for two nights on a July weekend.
We booked in advance to be sure of getting a spot due to the forecast good weather, and so were in the main 'pre-booked' field which was a lot nicer than the free-for-all field nearer reception with a lot more space between pitches. There are five or six different fields on the site for various groups (families, pre-booking, etc. ) and ours seemed to be the nicest. You have to park along the access road through the site, not by your pitch, which is a little inconvenient (we were in a small tent with minimal storage space, so needed the car boot) but it's not far from the pitches and I could always get a space nearby. It also made the site a lot more picturesque without cars lying around.
The facilities were very good; two toilet blocks each including a pot washing room (four-ish sinks) and laundry room. The toilets themselves were good, separated into a toilet room and a shower room beyond (about six showers, four or five dedicated washing basins in addition to those in the toilet bit). The site was probably full, but I never had to queue for anything, although the hot water was patchy but manageable during peak times. The facilities were always clean and generally in a good condition, in line with the 'hard wearing' design.
There's a shop in reception which is very well stocked, and sells fresh pastries some mornings. When we arrived some other visitors were buying midge repellents, which was a little worrying but it was ok in the end; there were a few midges about in the evenings but nothing too serious.
The location of the site is great for anyone interested in walking, being surrounded by fells in all directions. It is a bit of a drive from Ambleside though, due to the windy road, so probably best suited to visitors not wanting to drive much during their trip. There are tree pubs/bars within walkable distance nearby, of which we only visited the National Trust's excellent Sticklebarn (following an ascent of Harrison Stickle and Pike o' Stickle) and found truely wonderful. We didn't eat there, having just booked in for dinner elsewhere, but I wish we had.
So in summary a really good site, and we'll almost certainly be back.
Pro's; well appointed, great location for walking, great local pubs.
Con's; quite pricey, some midges, quite a bit of dirving needed to get out to the wider Lakes.

This site is set in a stunning location at the head of the Langdale valley. The site has several fields for tents, and although it was busy it didn't feel crowded.
The toilet blocks (there were two at either end of the site) were large and there were more than a sufficient number of showers.
Because of the woodland and the running water through the site, there were times when the midgies came out in force so be prepared!
The on site shop was well stocked with basics and there are three pubs within walking distance. We visited all three during our stay and they all cater well for campers.
My only negative comment is that the cost of the pitches is a little pricey.

This was a lovely site in a beautiful location with friendly owners and good clean facilities. However, the lack of a hook up was a little inconvenient for us but they seem to cater mostly for tents. However, that was small sacrifice for the rest of the weekend. Ideally located for walking and the local area, the site had a very friendly feeling and was very well maintained and cared for, overall would recommend

This was my first visit to Gt Langdale campsite and everything about it was superb. Level pitches with fantastic views, hot showers, a well stocked shop run by friendly staff and located at the base of the Langdale Pikes, Crinkle Crags & Pike O Blisco. The site is split into individual fields for groups, small reservations, families and turn up on the day. All pitches are numbered and they have a strict no pitching within 6 feet rule so none of the areas feel overcrowded. I pre booked and when I arrived all my details/site map etc were ready - all so organised. Two shower blocks serve the site and even though there was an Army Cadet Force using the group field facilities were not overstretched. There is a no noise rule after 11pm but I am not sure this is overly enforced but generally the site was quiet by 10'ish. Wiil definitely be back !
