Lovely site under the trees. Plenty of room around caravan.
Very clean and peaceful.
The wardens were very nice and helpful.
The area is just away from all the busy lakes and we took the little ratty train and went walking to a lovely water fall. In all very pleasant stay.

First time to the site or Cumbria and we was made very welcome by the site manager when we arrived.
We have a large frame tent and we pitched on the upper field with electric hook-up. There is also the option of having a TV feed as well. We stopped for 3 nights and the weather was fantastic.
The small site office is well stocked with high quality local produce and the managers were able to advise us on local trips.
Location : The feel of the site is that of a woodland clearing with the mature trees that are in situ. It feels that a lot of care went into the planning of this site. It is on a gentle slope, but the pitches are level. For caravans there doesn't appear to be a lot of space between pitches. However, with the upper tent pitches, although none marked out there was sufficient room to not feel penned in.
Facilities : The toilet block was very clean and had a nice fresh smell, whatever time of day you used them. Our only gripe was that there was only two showers in the men’s and women’s. Although there was a family shower room which had two further showers. On two occasions we both had to wait for quite some time for a shower. The queue on one night for the ladies showers extended outside. I think there is scope even with the present facilities to move things around which could increase the capacity of the showers available.
The site itself had no litter anyway in sight and by 11pm you could hear a pin drop as I went to the loo. I think that people like us must have spent the days walking and so enjoyed the early nights!
Yes we would definitely go again as it is an ideal location to explore the eastern part of the Lake District, which is not as densely populated with day trippers.

A lovely peaceful site, off the usual lake district tourist trail. Staff were very helpful, especially the help parking the van. The only problem with the site was that the pitches are a bit narrow for awning caravan and car. They don't like you parking on the grass if you can help it.
Toilets are very clean but only two showers but you can use disabled if these are busy.
Had a lovely trip on the steam railway and walked back. Weather not so good on top off Muncaster Fell very windy but great views. Would certainly consider returning to this site.

Just returned from a fantastic week at Ravenglass with brilliant weather. The facilities are excellent, toilets are exceptionally clean and closed each day for over an hour for cleaning. The site is nicely tucked away from the main village and looks onto open fields and within a throwing distance from tracks which take you up to Muncaster Castle and Fell.
There is also a children's play area across the road and a football pitch for a kick around. The local pub 'The Ratty Arms' is very dog friendly and is well stocked with over 79 different bottles of whiskey (I counted them!).
The steam railway in the village takes you up to Dalegarth (again dogs allowed but costs £1.50 each) and is a must as the scenery is lovely and the walk back to Ravenglass is brilliant if the sun is shining. Only thing to note is that the village has no cash point but has a mobile bank that visits every Tuesday morning, however the campsite itself offers cash back and their shop is well stocked and very reasonably priced.
We will definitely be going back as even though we visited during half term the site although fully booked was extremely peaceful and quiet with very helpful staff.
Only observation which is outside of the campsites control is that there seemed to be quite a few inconsiderate dog owners who did not clean up after their dogs or left the dog waste hanging in its bag on tree branches along the tracks to Muncaster Castle!

I can understand the appeal this site does have. It's remoteness has a certain charm but it does mean that you are faced with in interminable drive from the M6 along a very long and winding road! The trees and the birdlife also make for a pleasant location. The beach was, in a word, bleak. The pitches are mainly hardstanding and and are level although the site itself is on a slope. Craig, the site manager, was very helpful when I initially booked this site and is an expert at directing a reversing caravanner. The toilet block/dishwashing area was very clean but the water only luke warm during the busy morning period when the two showers were in constant use. The site office/shop was only open for a couple of hours in the morning and afternoon and sold a fair selection of produce. There are no re-cycling facilities on site and no play area for young children so the bikes were a godsend but there is a play area nearby out of sight. TV reception was actually very good with our aerial and pole although there is cable TV available at a price. There is very little in Ravenglass for children and it markets itself on the back of La'al Ratty and Muncaster Castle. The railway ride to Dalegarth is fun but overpriced especially if you intend to take your bikes. From Dalegarth it's only a short distance to Boot which is a beautiful little village and there is also another CCC site nearby which may be more convenient for the serious hillwalkers out there. There is a cycle route back from Dalegarth along the Esk Trail which is perfect for children from about 7 years old onwards, until you arrive at Muncaster Hill however, then it's a difficult, unpleasant trudge upwards for half a mile or so. Muncaster Castle is a great day out and you can indeed ride up the trail from the site to the entrance but be aware that you will have to leave your bikes outside, unattended, for the duration of your visit. In my opinion this is a very good site for a brief family visit but I would not recommend it for an extended holiday. It seems very popular with motor-caravannners perhaps on tour but I didn't see a single tent during our stay.

Not sure if I should leave a review on this site, it may just become to popular.
The welcome we received was way and above what you may normally expect and all info freely given as to the site and surrounding area.
Site facilities are way above the norm.
Site shop even in November was excellent for the essentials and I am sure in season would stock even more.
For a motorhomer this site is excellent with the local steam railway, Muncaster Castle ( don't miss the owls - recommend you visit near closing time as they are fed at this time ) and many walks including the Cumbria way.
Not by any means a detraction but if you are a dog owner be aware of the MOD Range several miles away, they to do occasionally fire off a shell and it may spook your hound if it is of the timid persuasion.

Stayed for 4 nights in August and will return.
Have to add that the showers are the best we have encountered and even the children comment on how good they were. So much so that while there had a shower every day without question!
I would agree with the previous review about the trees,I can see how tha would happen as there are lots and very tall, however we only had rain so didn't see much sun.
Our pitch did back onto the minor road down to Ravenglass itself but was not really an issue for noise etc.
Again good shop, essentials and a few treats, local produce, bread and papers (to order). Alittle disappointed at the opening times for the morning as they closed by 10am didn't open again till late afternoon.
We ate at the Ratty Arms twice and they had an excellent choice,in my opinion, and always very busy.
Most other things have been covered and I would agree Muncaster Castle well worth a visit and a nice walk there and back.
The Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway a hit (we've been on it so many times now from various stations but we never tire of it, losts of walks from the stations, you can get a book about it from the shop.

Friendly staff, very relaxed and laid back - not your typical CCC site managers in our experience. Good wee shop on site - meat, unusual bread etc. Site busy so we got no choice about which hardstanding to go to. Large spotless toilet block, but there was a queue for the two ladies showers in the morning. Free hairdryer - unheard of on CCC sites!
Site well cared for, with pretty shrubs and perennials by many pitches. Personally, I prefer a sunnier pitch - the trees cast a chilly shade in September, and this damp shade attracted voracious midges worse than we have up north. (But we're prepared - we use Avon Skin So Soft dry oil moisturiser spray like forestry staff and the SAS do in Scotland.)
No recycling facilities on site because the Council won't supply them. Dog walk is off site and off road in the woods, and you can loop round under the mainline railway to the beach and back via a pub: the Holly Tree by the shore provides outside seats where you can watch the sun set with your glass of real ale.
Stayed longer than expected as there's plenty to do locally. Fabulous beach and challenging golf course at Seascale; pretty village, more real ale and a bank at Gosforth; 'Britain's (i.E. 'England's') Favourite View' at Wastwater. Avoided nearby Sellafield/Windscale visitor centre for political reasons - unexpectedly, and thankfully, the nuclear power station isn't intrusive in local views compared to other nuclear power stations I'm familiar with up north (Dounreay, Torness, Chapelcross).
Muncaster Castle merits a full day and you can cycle there off-road (site managers will advise you); amusing commentary going round the castle, fascinating owl sanctuary, and watch the herons feeding at 4.30. Take your bikes (have to book) onto the narrow-guage railway up into Eskdale and follow the cycle track back down to the site (after you've detoured to the base of Hardknott Pass and had more real ale at the inn nearby that brews its own). We timed it back to the M6 north at Penrith (about 3 hours) via Cockermouth, and based on that we'd happily come back another year.

After a fantastic visit last year we had to go again. We arrived after a wet spell and due to some of the ground being soggy in places Craig put us at the back of a hardstanding pitch, which worked out very well, as our very elderly dog could amble around on the grass without getting in anyone's way. I can see that the immaculate facilities have been given lots of praise already. I feel it's worth mentioning that the shower cubicles step down a step, so preventing flooded floors, also there are more hooks and longer benches than in most changing rooms.
The Ratty arms does not just have a very interesting menu and friendly staff,it's also great value. We will definitely go again, some nice weather would be great.
