Will be visiting again -takes longer than you think to get there but worth the journey. Standards as you would expect from a club site.
Good location,Ratty Arms did great good value food also small hotel welcomes visitors for meals or just a drink at a bar usually frequented by locals. Trip on the Ravenglass railway is a must (5 mins walk from site) also Munster Hall with owl sanctuary was a good day out. Selafield visitors centre is worth a visit and also good value(it is free)
Good site in excellent location walks from the site and there is a level minor road accessed from site suitable for bikes enabling you to wander down to visit remains of Roman bath house.

Lovely site, facilities very clean but fully stretched in high season. Mostly hardstanding and well drained. No playground or ball game field, both available 200 mtrs away (outside the site). Site shop very well stocked, local meat and bread available. Wardens are fantastic, friendly, helpful and accommodating. Good dog walking close to site. Pub and resturant, main line rail and steam train 200 mtrs from site. Beach 5 minutes walk Excellent village shops in Gosforth village approx 5 miles away. Nearest supermarket Whitehaven 12 miles.

This was a fantastic introduction to camping for our family. Craig and his family should be very proud of what they do here. The site is very well looked after, the toilets and showers were very clean. Added bonus of the family bathroom which had two showers in plus sink and toilet made it really easy for our family of four.
Craig was very friendly and helpful, when we chose where to pitch. Lovely views and the sound of sheep! Shop seemed well stocked and we tried some of the excellent local butchers produce they stocked. Site was very peaceful and relaxed.
Lots to do in the immediate area, Ratty railway the kids enjoyed, Muncaster Castle with the owl display. Lots of walks, and a childrens playground just outside the site on the way into Ravenglass. Friendly pubs, and tea room on the front at Ravenglass. Wastwater few miles away.
Now I am worried that others sites will just not compare to this one!

We have stayed at the site some 8 years ago and the site was very good then. Now the camping club has franchised it the site has been bought up to a higher standard.
The site assistant Craig and support assistants could not have been more helpful, we were offered a pitch at the top of the site but we were keen for a little shade and was given a better site that we found more suitable, level and easy to get our ground pegs in with no trouble.
By the tent was a well made picnic bench so we made use of that for our 8 night stay, we have a Cobb BBQ that we used most evenings and sat outside (between the showers).
The shop has most the usual stuff, Bread, milk eggs papers etc.
Toilets are very clean two showers (as much hot water as you need, hair dryer in ladies and gents block (no charge) (can be a little crowded at peak times), but there is also a family shower room that you can use if all the other ones are full.
Undercover dish washing and a hand washing/washing machine, tumble dryer, and clothes line.
We highly recommend the Ratty Arms for fantastic food and real ale (Book up) after a full days walking this is the place to eat.
We will be back again next year.

This is only our 4th site that we have visited the standards are great, lay-out, service points, cleanliness and the staff we found to be extremely helpful. The shower/toilet block are very clean.
There are at least 3 pubs in the quaint village we tried the Ratty Arms where the staff again were great. Village is a 5 min walk.
We WILL be returning in the near future for another great stay.

This was meant to be our 'make or break weekend'. After a disastrous trip to Scarborough in August 06 we hadn't been camping since but had caught the bug again. The idea was that if this trip was a success we would go for a longer stay in the summer hols, but if disastrous we would give up on camping and settle for Travelodge and Holiday Inn trips.
We decided on Ravenglass as it was fairly close to home and we had a family pass for Muncaster Castle. The site is lovely - lots of trees, which I love. The staff were really friendly and helpful. The facilities were spotless and, yes, there really are fresh flowers in the ladies loos. The shop was small but had everything you could need.
Most of the pitches are hardstanding and we were hugely outnumbered by caravans and motorhomes. We were given a site near the entrance to the site - there was a bit of noise late at night with people presumably stumbling back from the pub. Apparently there is another tent pitching area at the top of the site but we didn't get up there to see it.
The local area is very quiet but had everything we wanted - a beach, country walks, a playground and football field nearby, La'al Ratty railway (our son is Thomas the Tank Engine mad), and a pub that welcomes children and has a good menu.
Sadly we only stayed at the site for one night - on the second day it rained continuously - and I mean 'RAIN'. Our tent didn't have a sewn in groundsheet and we hadn't secured it too well so we got back to wet beds and the wind howling under and through the tent. We decided to pack up and come home - our 6 yr old cried as we left and we were all very quiet on the drive home. To some, it might seem that our 'make or break weekend' had been turned out to on the 'break' side, but thanks to this site, we've decided we definitely want to camp again and will be returning as soon as we get the chance. We've already ordered a new Montana 6, so hopefully no rain or wind getting in next time.
One sour note - I like wildlife, but after a night listening to the pheasant family (mum, dad and 6 chicks) in the adjoining field rattling around half the night, I understand why people shoot them!
We can't wait to go back to Ravenglass. Loved it.

My partner and I visited this site for one night, the lady at the reception was very helpful, she even lent us a towel because we had forgot ours.
It is very quiet (apart from the pheasants and sheep) The toilets and showers are great.
The people are so friendly and welcoming.
There are Beautiful settings for lots of walks, also theres a train museum in the village and close to Muncaster castle.
Fantastic over all well recommended!

Just got back from a few days here, what an excellent site. Very clean shower/toilet block, fresh flowers too. Well stocked shop. Very welcoming, friendly, informative wardens. The village is a short walk away, with its steam railway, beautiful sunsets on the beach, and some fantastic walks nearby. We would highly recommend this site.

We visited this site in April and on arrival we were greeted by a very friendly site manager who showed us to our pitch, the pitches are of varying size and set on different levels and are amongst trees, all caravan/ motorhome pitches have EHU, levelling blocks would be advisable for most pitches. Fresh and waste water points are available within easy reach of most pitches and there is one chemical disposal point to the rear of the toilet block and a motor home service point also close to the toilet block.
The toilets and showers were kept immaculately clean throughout our stay and whilst there are only two showers each ladies and gents this did not cause a problem on our visit, there is also a family/ disabled bathroom .
The site reception also acts as a well stocked shop with local produce well represented including freshly baked bread ,local ice cream to name but a few, newspapers are to order and there is the usual range of camping and caravanning accessories available.
The local area provides plenty of attractions the nearest being the Ravenglass to Eskdale steam railway which is in the village and 5 mins walk from the site, also close by are the sellafield visitor centre , the coastal village of St Bees and the stunning views of Wast water, farther afield are Workington and Whitehaven and to the south Ulverston and Barrow in Furness.
The village of Ravenglass is a short walk from the site and is quiet and peaceful there is a post office and a hotel/ restaurant and also the Ratty arms pub, named after the railway and set in the old station here a very warm welcome awaits and the food is to be thoroughly recommended, there is also a good choice of real ales available. When we were there there was a quiz night on a Tuesday and all are welcome.
All in all this site and its surroundings provide a wonderful setting for a short break or longer as there is enough in the area to keep most busy for at least a week weather permitting.
