Stayed for 10 nights at this fantastic site. The surroundings are beautiful and it is very peaceful. A few minutes walk takes you into the village of Ravenglass in itself a delight as it is an ancient Roman port so it is right on the estuary. There is a steam railway which takes you on a fantastic trip of 45 minutes through beautiful scenery and you can get off or on at various locations. There is a beautiful walk to the nearby Mount Castle which is a good day out and the site is convenient for visiting Whitehaven Egremont and Cockermouth it is also well situated for a visit to the western lakes.
On site you have excellent facilities although another shower in each block would be nice. Mike and his wife and all the staff were friendly and helpful which all in allo made the visit fantastic and we will definitely visit again.

A really lovely site, very quiet, large pitches. The facilities are immaculate and adequate.
The surrounding area is beautiful. Interesting history, and fantastic walks right from the site which is what we like having two dogs to accompany us. Walked to Muncaster castle, a lovely circular walk which we had to do backwards as the tide was in at Ravenglass! We had a trip to Dalegarth for Boot via the La 'al Ratty narrow railway. Walked from there up to Stanley Ghyll waterfall and St Catherine's church.
Stayed just three nights. This is a lovely site to visit if your touring around the Lake district.

We were only able to spend 2 nights here due to family commitments but thought it was lovely. We were given a choice of pitches as it was quiet just before the Bank Holiday weekend - we really like to have choice and CC sites don't usually seem to do this. As a tiny motorhome we feel very hemmed in when surrounded by monstrous white vehicles! Pitch sizes vary a lot and are gravelled and well spread out on a variety of levels among trees; ours near the top at the edge was nice and sunny for the brief time the sun appeared. A bigger unit would have different choices. It is a bit of a walk to the loos from the top of the site, where all the tent pitches are, but it's good exercise. Not sure if they can fit very big tents on, you do have to contact them.
The facilities are beautiful with a far better shower than ours at home. Don't understand the previous comment about radiators, there are 2 in the Ladies bit and they were warm whenever I went in there. This wasn't the depths of winter though, but camp loo blocks are always cold under foot. Showering in flipflops helps.
The managers were very friendly and helpful. The whole area is lovely with beautiful views from the coast, and Lal Ratty (the train) a huge treat to the very beautiful Eskdale valley - the station sells an excellent plastic walks leaflet.
We don't have TV, but were surprised to have absolutely no radio reception apart from local BBC, though 'phone reception was fine and we used the free wifi on our pitch, - we didn't try radio on that.
We hope to come back to this lovely site.

We stayed 3 nights here in mid April and weather was very windy. The site is nicely laid out with terraces and bushes.
Excellent reception and staff very helpful about the site and things in the area.
The facilities were spotless although we did find the toilet block a little cold.
We luckily did the train trip on a dry day it is only a few minutes from the site; not much at Ravenglass itself except the estuary although there are a couple of pubs which we did not try.
The site shop was useful and they will order a paper. Site had free WIFI and TV worked OK without the use of the aerial connection.
Would definitely stay here again if in the area.

This site is lovely and peaceful with a warm welcome from the staff. A lovely little shop on site and pubs with great food within walking distance. The only letdown for us was the toilet block. This could have been my best ever toilet block as it was clean, well laid out, amazing hot water showers with no silly push button thing BUT the toilet block itself was fffffreezing in both the ladies and gents. There is one radiator and when we spoke to the wardens they told us the heating came on morning, afternoon and evening for 2hour spans which during winter and as there is only one radiator for the whole block, isn't enough. I could see my breath inside and standing on the floor was so cold I got pains in my feet. Had I had young children with me, I would have considered it too cold to undress them in there. This is such a simple thing to fix and to make camping over the winters months much more pleasurable. With this fixed, it would be perfect.

Just returned from a wonderful long weekend at this amazing little site. It was so peaceful and relaxing and just what we wanted after a fairly long and winding road from the motorway. The pitches are excellent with plenty of space between each one. The site is slightly terraced so this gives a feeling of space also.
The site itself and the amenity blocks were very clean and tidy in spite of the very wet and muddy conditions. The wardens did a very good job of keeping it so. They are very warm and friendly people, and very informative too. They have a small shop in reception which has enough of a variety to put a meal together, as I think the nearest store is quite some way off. Do not think there is one in Ravenglass itself. This little village is so quaint and its main road leads down to the estuary where you can spend hours enjoying the views.
There are many safe places to walk if you take your dogs. Our two had the time of their lives. In fact there is so much to see that we are about to book to go back again in March, only this time for longer!

Just returned from a half term break at this little gem of a site. After a very long day travelling we were warmly greeted and helped onto our pitch. Although the pitches are large there isn't enough room to put the van onto the pitch with the car but the wardens were very helpful. There are some pitches though that had large motor homes on them, so the wardens will ensure you are given a pitch you can park on.
The site is lovely and tidy, clean and quiet. There are TV aerial points at each pitch and you can hire a lead to hook upto it but we didn't need it as the reception using our van aerial was brillant. The toilet and shower facilities are first class. The showers are power showers and have constant hot water. The family room has two showers, baby bath and change area and toilet. The laundry room has a washer and separate dryer both coin operated. There are 3 good sized sinks in the pot wash room and a well stocked information room with leaflets of walks and places to visit in the area. There is not a play area on the site but there's a very good one within a 5 minute walk and there's the estuary to explore within minutes. The ratty railway is worth a trip on as is a drive out to buttermere lake to see a fantastic waterfall.
We ate one evening at the La Ratty pub next to the railway, it serves fantastic food and I can definitely recommend the Baileys cheesecake. They happily allow well behaved dogs and even gave ours a few treats. The landlord was brilliant with my 6 year old who loved the tricks he showed him. The only downside to this site for me is the distance we had to travel to get there, if not for that we would be regular visitors.

Fantastic welcome. Very clean showers and toilets. Whilst we were there my husband was taken to hospital with appendicitis, and the wardens could not be more helpful. Even offering to pick me up from Whitehaven. Will definitely go back, if only to thank the wardens personally. The village of Ravenglass is well worth a visit, with two pubs serving real ale and food. And not forgetting la'al Ratty, the little steam train. So all in all well worth returning. And thank you wardens

Just back from three days here in our Pathfinder and right from the start with the warm welcome and help given to get the unit onto our hard standing pitch, it was obvious that this site is a winner.
Spotless showers and toilets in the centre of the site with plenty of hot water. Good range of items in the shop which is open twice a day. Quiet, sheltered site, good level pitch with plenty of room for our folding camper plus awning and even enough space left to get the car on in front of the unit. EHU worked flawlessly and there was the option of a TV hookup, but we just used our own kit.
Kids play area and public field a short walk from the site, Roman bathhouse ruins a slightly longer stroll away. Great food and good service in the Ratty Arms within walking distance.
We spotted this site on a previous trip to the area and thought it looked good, we were not disappointed and it is definitely on our list of sites to go back to.

Arrived after a long drive through narrow, winding country roads, to a warm and friendly welcome.
The site was easy to find, signposted well.
The reception area is well-stocked with items you may run out of, including milk, and you are able to order a paper for the following day.
We were 'checked in' relatively quickly and shown to our pitch.
All amenities are within one location and only a short walk from each pitch. We were allocated a pitch at the top of the park; there are lots of trees and each pitch is relatively private and well spaced.
Amenities are very clean and in good working order; toilets are very clean.
There are specific places to leave your dog while you visit the loo, or pop into the reception, and there is a clean bowl of water at reception for your dog should it need a drink before you get to your outfit. Hasten to add, the site is dog friendly. There are no specific dog walks within the site but the whole site is surrounded by countryside and public footbaths for walking. Dogs will not be bored!
There is a very small and quaint village with a few pubs which we hope to visit before we leave.
The wardens are very friendly and helpful and cant do enough for you without being interfering. Hats off to them as the weather is atrocious.
We would definitely return to this site.
