Have stayed here several times and have never been disappointed. Site has a lovely woodland feel, has great facilities which are very well maintained with helpful and courteous staff. Good access to internet and TV. Only negative on this visit was the fact we had to hire a TV cable as our 25m was too short!

If you want peace and tranquillity with close proximity to a couple of pubs, this is the place to visit.

Fantastic. We are new to caravanning and the staff were brilliant, helpful and friendly even finding me a charger for my kindle. The site is beautiful, quiet, and very clean. Showers and toilets very clean plenty of hot water. Hookups close to van, good facilities for dirty water etc. Site shop is well stocked including local produce. Unless you want to go further afield there is no need to use the car. Lovely walks locally which Tilly dog enjoyed, both on the beach and in the woods. Train services will take you into the lakes if you want to walk or ramble, the Ravenglass Eskdale Railway or Main Line Railway stations are just down the road. The Ratty Arms comes highly recommended Good Food and Real Ales just a few mins from site. Can't praise it enough will definitely be back.

There are some sections of the main A roads from J36 of the M6 to this site, that are steep, narrow and with steep and narrow bends! Some of the hills need a decent run so don't get stuck behind a tractor! The views though are great!

We arrived to a wonderful welcome from the owner who has to be commended for going above and beyond the call of duty to so many people. We watched as he helped numerous people who could not quite cope with the steep incline and tightness of entry to many of the pitches. The pitches themselves are not the largest in the world but they are flat, though we did notice one or two campervans using levellers.

The site is lovely. Quiet, secluded, pretty and so very peaceful. We loved it and will return. Showers etc, as you would expect were clean and no push button, just a lovely lever and no button pressing! A delight to use. Shop well stocked but then it needed to be as there is very little close by, this really is a remote site. Nearest supermarket ( co-op) is in Egremont, some 10 miles away.

My only suggestion is that perhaps the information room could contain details of where to find the closest chemist, dentist etc rather than just pubs and restaurants and to give full addresses of doctors and hospitals rather than just a phone number and town name. Ravenglass itself has little apart from pubs and restaurants and that's fine but you do need to know where to access services if they are needed.

The club web site states this is a top site for beaches. I would disagree. Ravenglass is on an estuary. There is a beach but it is largely out of bounds as estuary beaches usually are because they are too wet on the sand to be able to safely walk upon. Further out there is mud. The other problem is that the beaches are in in a danger zone; the army use them for firing practice. The red flag is often flying and the booms are clearly heard. This means you are only allowed on a very narrow stretch of beach.

We had a fabulous holiday here. We went far and wide and enjoyed the whole area. My comments above are not criticisms, merely what I hope are helpful pointers to those travelling here. The site is gorgeous and as I say, we will return not least to enjoy once again what this area offers; good walks, gorgeous scenery, Muncaster Castle, decent cycling, Eskdale, Li'll Ratty!

Have enjoyed 4 nights at Ravenglass Caravan and Camping Club Site over Easter weekend. This is a very pretty, very well cared for site with excellent facilities. Staff are efficient, friendly and welcoming.

Ideal location for getting about without using a car. Ravenglass Eskdale railway, mainline railway and several eating places in village which is a few minutes walk away.

Imposing Muncaster Castle, set in extensive gardens with views, is only a mile away.

We have enjoyed local cheese and Cumberland sausage from site shop.

Plenty of hookups, free wifi. Showers very spacious, with hand showerheads ie no fixed, push button, infuriating showerheads. Overall, the shower stalls best we have ever encountered in 14 years experience of about an average of 30 campsites a year in UK and Europe (even a dozen in Australia and New Zealand ! ).

Spent 4 nights here and was very impressed with the site. The facilities were extremely well maintained, always spotlessly clean and plenty of hot water etc. The shop provided everything you might have forgotten to take with you and the locally produced sausages were the best I've tasted in a long time! One of the best assets of the site is the lovely, friendly couple in charge, they are a credit to the organisation and a pleasure to deal with. We and our two border terriers really enjoyed our stay.

Nice little site near the tiny little village of Ravenglass. Staff were friendly and helpful and the facilities were very clean. The pitches were well separated. Those were the good points! The site was let down by the number of showers available and the fact that the water seemed to run out very quickly. Two showers in the ladies area and 2 in the gents IS NOT ENOUGH! I twice overheard ladies talking about having to be showered before 8. 30am or there was no hot water left! When are campsites going to get the message that the days of campers not being fussy about washing etc are well and truly over? At £27 per night, I do not want to have to get up at the crack of dawn to still have to queue and hope there's enough water to rinse my hair! The other strange thing about this site was the fact that, when we put in the length of our motorhome, that was the maximum size of pitch we were given! We had to turn down the first pitch because it was on a slope and there was absolutely no room to get our vehicle up the ramps to heighten the front. There were at least 10 larger pitches with nothing on them and, when we asked if we could move to one of those, we were told that they were all booked. We were there 2 nights and the majority of those empty pitches remained empty! What was that about? The second pitch we were put on was slightly more level but was still exactly the length of our vehicle, which meant that, when we got the front up the ramps, we were sticking out into the road a bit. As we were only there for 2 nights, we decided to live with it (and of course we thought the larger pitches were all booked out)but the lesson learned is to say that you're slightly larger than you actually are and you might get a pitch big enough to get your entire van on! The highlight of our stay, though, was the little steam railway from Ravenglass to Dungarth - it was brilliant and we did see some lovely countryside, not to mention a very nice ice-cream at the end. However, I can safely say about Ravenglass - been there, done that, won't be back! Sorry folks.

We just loved this site. Set in a wooded enclosure only a few minutes from the beach and natural harbour of Ravenglass. This place is in a time-warp and the surrounding area is so unspoilt. Lots of footpaths and quiet lanes for cycling and if you wish to get up into the mountains then the steam railway (L'al Ratty) takes you there. Good cafes both ends of the line. There is also a Roman bathhouse and at the moment there is a dig going on and people on site were more than willing to tell you all about what they had found.

The shop on the campsite is well-stocked and there is a very good pub/hotel in the village with a restaurant. We ate there and were very pleased with the food.

All the facilities on the campsite were spotless and the wardens very helpful. Can't wait to go back.

One of the best sites we have ever visited! Brilliant wardens - extremely helpful and knowledgeable. Site very well run and pitches very nicely laid out. Very close to village - with two good dog friendly pubs - and good food! Eskdale railway only 5 mins walk - take a trip! Very good dog walking area - Cassie loved being able to run 'off-lead'. Our enjoyment helped by some very interesting people also there - including a very fit 80 year old who just happened to be a European Duathlon champion (age group)Recommended!

A lovely location and a fairly typical club site.

We came to this site because a friend recommended it, particularly for camping with children. My personal taste runs to somewhere smaller and quieter but if you're looking for a busy, friendly environment then it's ideal.

As you drive in through the gates (having navigated the maze of country roads - get a good map or check your satnav has the correct location before you get too far!) you follow what feels like the drive up to the main reception building, but it turns out that the field the 'drive' runs through is the main camping field. Somehow that felt a bit backwards, I like to be further away from the traffic but it wasn't really a problem.

I thought the pitches were quite small and very closely spaced but this seems fairly standard for club sites. We did have plenty of space for our trailer tent and awning. There is a single line of pitches along the left side of the drive, and a double line along the right, we were offered a choice and chose one away from the road for the sake of our toddler's safety but when we pulled up we discovered the stream running behind the back row which has vertical sides and a 3-4 foot drop straight into the stream! There is another field just past the reception building which seemed to mostly be just tents (possibly without hookups?), but the bigger tents, trailers etc. Were all in the main section along the drive.

The welcome was friendly and we were guided to our pitch (after being shown a choice of two). Showers and toilets were clean, there were plenty of toilets although I did have to wait 5 minutes or so to shower in the morning when the site was nearly full. I thought the fees were quite expensive but again they're fairly typical for a club site.

There is a little shop at reception selling most things you might need plus various pocket money bits and pieces, there is also a map and various leaflets about tourist attractions in the laundry room, along with a pay phone (which you might need since there was NO mobile signal for us on either o2 or T-mobile).

There is a nice playground in the woods, built into the slope, where a crowd of kids (aged around 5-15) were playing most of the time we were there. Not much for toddlers (which is fairly normal, we are coming to learn!).

The site is just a few minutes walk from Ravenglass station for the Ravenglass & Eskdale narrow gauge preserved railway which is a lovely day-out and takes you to most of the local tourist attractions, with the seaside at the other end of it, they offer a several-day rover ticket too. Don't forget there is another club site at the other end of the railway line, at Eskdale. I haven't stayed there but if you want easy access to the beach then you might be better off at that end.

If you're looking at this site for general Lake District reasons then have a good look at a map first - this is definitely the western lakes and is a long way from most of the main tourist attractions. But if you're looking for somewhere a bit further from the beaten track but just as lovely then it's a good choice.

The site and the location are both well worth the little effort needed to get out of the main Lakes tourist hotspots.

We drove along the coast from Walney Island - stunning scenery on quiet roads. On arrival at Ravenglass we found a cute village perched on the edge of the sea, two pubs, a shop, steam railway and the C&CC site all within 5 minutes walk of each other.

Site is set out on various levels up a slight hill. Lots of shade as plenty of tall trees around the site. Toilets / showers very clean - only 2 showers so I was concerned re queues, need not of worried as never queued once. Wardens, helpful, friendly and knowledgeable about the area. We were offered a tv hook up cable for £1 a night - but didn't need as our little tv ariel picked up all the stations easily.

For cyclists there is a route that goes over 50 miles up the coast, nearly all on cycle paths or very quiet lanes - and its flat most of the way. You can cycle along the sea side of Sellafield - not much to see really but its good to see the scale of the whole place.

Overall we really rated the area and site. If there was a negative it would be that we weren't allowed to chose a pitch. We were told that all pitches other than the one we were given were booked - but 3 days later there were still at least 2 pitches that had been empty since we arrived.
