Mmm. Mixed feelings really. I can first say that the management are really nice and helpful. However our large 22ft outfit ended up in a small hard standing pitch, whilst little 2 berths had the big ones - bad planning as we had informed him on booking on our size.
This is a horrendous site to get to - about an hour on the winding and steep A road to get there - there is no other way in - new tourers beware. On the extreme west of the lakes on the coast. ! washer and dryer, 2 showers per sex but holds about 60 units - way too little facilities.
Not a lot to do unless you drive out. A couple of minutes walk is the narrow gauge railway which is good fun if not a little pricey. There is the Ratty Arms which is very busy and sells decent food - however when we went it was absolutely filthy and seems to always have been that way. Was worried our nearly 2 year old would crawl around. Unfortunately there is little competition as the next boozer around is a few miles away.
Little for kids to do once the little park next tot he pub has been explored. No shops for 11 miles so you have to make do with the site shop which is ok but limited.
If you live nearby then it's worth it as it is immaculately clean and nicely laid out but a little cramped. Not worth it for a long haul as there are better and easier to get too sites with lots more to do for everyone with better facilities and nearer civilisation.

Arrived in gorgeous sunshine and it stayed with us (apart from a short shower in the early hours) for 10 days! Lovely site, nicely laid out. The pitch we had was hard standing, which was a first for us with a trailer tent, luckily the camp staff advised on booking we would need the rock pegs otherwise we would have struggled pitching.
Toilets and showers are spotlessly clean, although only 2 showers never had to wait. Nice walk for dogs directly off site, and can be on the estuary beach within a few minutes. 2 pubs within a 5 minute walk, both will take well behaved dogs. Recommend going on the Ratty train journey, cost £20 for 2 adults and 2 dogs, all 4 of us enjoyed it. Worth having a walk round the grounds of Muncaster Castle, could not go into the Castle itself as do not take dogs, but OK for grounds and the incredible Owl sanctuary, who do a display with a few of the birds, great commentary of one of the handlers, a scouser with a great sense of humour. Highly recommend the site.

Just to echo some of the comments already made by previous visitors; BOOK IN ADVANCE! We didn't and even though we turned up before lunch time and it wasn't school holidays, the place was full. As we didn't require hook-up, the very friendly owner gave us his last spot at the top of the site, amongst a few tents. Actually this was perfect as our view was of a field full of horses, rather than other campers and caravans! Long walk to the toilets though! Showers and toilets were fabulously clean but queues from 7am for use of the 2 showers per block. The remains of a roman bath house are a 5 minute stroll from the park and Ravenglass is 10 minutes down the hill. No post office or shop when we visited, as they were being refurbished, so only 1 shop in the hamlet which sold crafts and little else. Come prepared! On-site shop well stocked with most essentials and also has fresh meat from local butcher. Excellent site.

All I can say is that it is the best site I have stayed at. The management is friendly and really helpful; a very casual atmosphere. They made sure that the space you had was suitable for your needs, and could change if needed. The washing and shower units were beautifully clean and the addition of a vase of flowers in the women's shower block were a bonus! :-)

This is a top rank site for caravans and tents, and for motor homes it's one of the best. The motor home service point is easily accessible, the pitches are good quality hard standings (most seem to be reasonably level but you might find levellers a benefit) and length seems to be no problem. The location is ideal for those motor-homers who prefer not to move their vehicles once on site. The mainline rail station is about 200 yards away with services to Barrow (south) and Carlisle (north), and to places of interest in between, such as Maryport, Whitehaven and Sellafield. And La'al Ratty (narrow gauge railway) runs through Eskdale from Ravenglass to more or less the foot of Hardknott Pass. And a great idea: hire a car from the site (when we were there this was £28 a day all inclusive except petrol). And if you want to stay put, Ravenglass itself is only a few hundred yards away (2 reasonable pubs - although shops a bit thin on the ground). But the on-site shop stocks all essentials. The site itself is peaceful - we weren't aware of traffic or rail noise at all. And the shower blocks, while small, were beautifully clean. In fact, the whole site is very well maintained, with pitches well laid out between trees. If you want to watch TV, it'll be worth paying £1.00 per night for cable connection. This gives you 10 channels of good quality; without cable, reception is poor. Main mobile signals are good. A wonderful site.

Great site in wonderful location, Warden works hard to maintain a high standard of cleanliness and a very tidy and attractive site. The Showers were great although only 2 per m&f. No significant shops in village though site shop ok for emergencies. Site easy to access and pitches are adequate. Muncaster castle a short walk away - very enjoyable -- WE CLIMBED SCAFELL PIKES! and survived.

A very nice site that has been cleverly planned around the central amenities block, the pitches are mostly hardstandings some more level than others! whilst not massive are just the right size for a unit and awning and hook up points with tv (9 Channels) are numerous, there is a shop on the site that is quite adequate with fresh meat, eggs, bread, milk and the like. The facilities are very nearly perfect and immaculately maintained all the time by the wardens and assistants, there is no play area on site for kids and some got uppity with kids playing which is unfortunate but there is a small play area off site about 200M away. Local pub The Ratty Arms is very good both for food and beer and is quite reasonable, there is also a couple of other places in the village of Ravenglass that serve food. Would return.

This excellent site was actually more like a Caravan Club than a Camping and Caravanning Club site with all the pitches on hard-standing and no obvious area for tents. The site recently changed hands and the new owners are doing an excellent job.
Facilities include a small shop and perhaps the cleanest toilet blocks of any site we've visited (even my 9-year old son commented on it) and the power-showers were without a doubt the best I've used on any campsite. The folks running the site are friendly and efficient and the site is well placed for Ravenglass village and close to the narrow gauge railway line that runs up the valley from their (well worth a visit). There are also some pleasant walks from the site including one to Muncaster Castle.
The quality of the site hasn't gone un-noticed however so book ahead as even in the week before the English October school holidays the site was full.

A very pleasant site set amongst woodland. The site was easy to find, situated of the main Whitehaven to Barrow road. The reception/Office was situated in a wooden building ath eentrance and sold the basics and Tv booster cables if required could also be hired. The toilet / shower block was clean and in good repair as was the dishwasing area. There is a small coin operated laundry. The wardens live in a bungalow on the site.
Ravenglass village is a 5 minute walk from the site entrance, with a nice Pub.There is a lovely view over the sea with a nice walk along the front.A small Post Office/Newsagents in the main street is available, also a nice gift shop nearby. The Ravenglass & Eskdale railway is the main tourist attraction and I had a very pleasant trip through the fells to Dalegarth Station. Also adjacent to the railway is the main coat line to Barrow-in-Furness and Whitehaven, although the service is infrequent.
Turn left at the site entrance is a very pleasant walk past the Roman Bathhouse (said to be the original height and one of the best preserved).signposts direct the walker to Muncaster Castle. We visited on a lovely sunny day.The Owl sanctuary is worth a visit as is the house itself, read about the "Ghost" sittings by Paranormal investigators, admire the views over the fells from the cannons at the front door.Nice meals can be had at the "Stable Cafe" and let the small children visit the Wild Vole maze.A most enjoyable visit to Ravenglass.

Great little site, just been refurbished by the c&cc club. 5 minute walk from train station, steam railway, pub, childrens park and sport field. surrounded by fields so excellent for wildlife. good beaches at seascale 10mins drive. nearest supermarkets (morrisons, aldi etc) at whitehaven 14 miles away. chippy, chinese takeaway and minimarket at seascale. site shop selling essentials. very relaxing part of the lakes but beware of the 4 o'clock rush hour on the main road around sellafield caused by shift change (did you know they employ 10,000 people?). most relaxing camping holiday we've had, hope its the same for you. excellent showers/toilets washing machines, iron, information room. only site we've been to with washing-up sinks in a room and not outside, good news for the men!
