We visited this site for a weekend. The site was very well kept. This was my first camping trip and I was amazed at how good the facilities were. The toilets and the showers were very clean and not too far away. I was impressed with the washing up station where you took all your pots, pans etc and were able to wash them in hot water, I thought I would have to boil kettles all day. The walk by the river was very good and not too far into hayfield. The first night we went to the Sportsman and had a drink with the children in the beer garden. Very pleasant. We had a meal at the George Hotel on the Saturday night and this was very good as well as reasonably priced. The only critisim of the campsite was that there were no recyling points and we fetched our glass and plastic bottles home because we felt guilty of putting them in with the general rubbish, good job we only went for two days. It was also a little disapointing for the children not to be able to play with their footballs, kites, frisbies etc as these were not allowed on site.

Have just stayed at this site - the two of us and two dogs and we absolutely loved it. It was very quiet - about a dozen campers at the most and the dogs loved the local walks along the river and up the wooded hillside (although they really wanted to chase the semi tame rabbits and ducks that wander the site) Toilets and showers clean and accessible via a pushbutton keypad. Checking in was easy and straightforward and the wardens pleasant enough. The Sportsman pub was in walking distance and the staff friendly and welcoming and dogs were welcome although we didn't take ours in - can recommend the food and the wine! Would recommend this site for touring the peak district, or walking - we did a bit of both.

This was the first time I stayed on a CCC site and although the site itself was very nice it is such a pain to book onto. I had to pay a £25 deposit - I've never had to pay a deposit for camping before! You can't pitch before 12 or arrive later than 8pm and you get allocated a pitch! You are only allowed to park one car by the tent per pitch so if there is a group of you sharing tents (as in our case) you have to park the extra cars in the car park near the toilet block. The site is flat and well maintained and the toilet and shower facilities clean, although they are closed for 1 1/2 hours every day so there is not really any excuse for them not to be clean! There is a shop on-site. Hayfield (and pubs) is just a short stroll from the site and its a good area for walking.

This was our first experience of a CCC site, which is approached by some rather narrow roads through Hayfield village. We arrived for a pre-booked weekend stay 6:30pm Friday night, registration was understandably quite busy, took over 20 mins to be allocated a pitch (which was a little frustrating given that we just wanted to be set up and cracking open the beer.) - only one person registering on a weekend when, by their own admission, they were fully booked. However, the staff were pleasant and friendly, and helpful throughout the weekend. A warning though - the office/shop is only open for a couple of hours in the morning and a couple of hours late afternoon/evening. The pitch was flat and had plenty of space between units in a long, narrow field, nestling in a valley. Friday evening was very peaceful - despite being busy, the atmosphere was calm and friendly. The arrival of a very large multi-tent family group spoiled the peace and quiet on Saturday (all other families happily respected other campers, so I would hope this is a rare occurrence on this otherwise lovely site). Toilets were clean and spacious but BEWARE - the hot water is VERY hot! The hot push-tap at the dishwashing facility is too hot to push constantly without the aid of a tea-towel! The local village is a pleasant walk away with a few pubs serving food, a couple of restaurants and a chippy that shuts before 8pm! The office has a booklet available for £1.40 with a number of walks locally, ranging from 1 hour strolls to the challenging Kinder Scout. Overall, this is one of the most pleasant sites we have visited. We found the pitch fees to be very reasonable and would definitely return, and are already looking forward to our next stay!

Just returned from a weekend camping trip to Hayfield. This is one of the best site we have stayed at. The service from the site personal is first class. The toilet and showers facilities are always clean and tidy with plenty of hot water. The allocated pitches are very spacious. The location of the camp site is great, the views of the hills are breath taking. The village of hayfield is about a five minute walk away. We can definitely recommend the Skillet restaurant, behind the church. The food was excellent and the restaurant owner could not do enough to make us feel more welcome, I have never laughed so much. On the whole We will definitely be returning the Hayfield.

This was our first camping trip and it was excellent. We can't fault it and will definetaly be going again. The site was quite busy but everybody just seemed to get on. There was plenty of space to each tent/motor home. The facilities were really good. Showers and toilets always very clean. Washing up facilities also good, mega hot water so easy to clean up those greasy fry ups. There's not play area but this didn't pose a problem to my kids, they really enjoyed the whole weekend. The walk down to the village is very nice. Excellent chippy there. We also had a meal at the Bull. This was very good value and they were very pleasant, even allowing our big dog through the bar to the beer garden. For a small village they seem to have everything you could want 4 pubs, chippy, PO newsagents even a hairdressers. There are some lovely walks all around. We did the Sett Valley Trail but will be back to do some of the others. I'd give this site and location 10/10 great value and couldn't have asked for more. Thanks

Three of us stayed at this campsite over the spring bank holiday weekend with a view to having a lovely ramble up on Kinder. Unfortunately the weather conspired against us and we spent most of the weekend on the site itself.
We arrived to check in and, yes, there were a few problems with the computerised booking system but at least it was warm and dry in the shop / office and we got a chance to check out the contents of the shop while we waited. It sells pretty much all you'll need in the way of food and it's not bad value either. They also sell gas and a few other basics and there are guides to the area as well. The shop also displays the local weather in the window and this showed that the temperature on top of Kinder Scout was going to feel like minus 9 with the wind chill factor. Needless to say we began to think twice about that walk!
After we'd booked in (during which time a not inconsiderable queue had formed in the small shop) we were directed to our pitches by one of the wardens. We pitched up and although the warden supervised and told us to move a bit further apart (our tents were not seperated by the regulation 6 metres) we didn't feel unwelcome or uncomfortable.
The pitches are a good size but with quite stony ground a couple of inches down. We were at the top end of the site and our pitches backed onto an adjoioning field (into which our frisbee immediately sailed) which swept up the side of a hill to a wooded slope, beyond which is the broad expanse of Kinder, just seen through the trees.
When we woke to a windy and wet morning we didn't end up walking, we just stayed in and played I spy and 20 questions instead. When the rain did ease off a bit and we ventured outside we saw an RAF rescue helicopter hovering low above William Clough and decided that we'd probably made the right decision in staying put.
The toilet block was very clean, lovely and warm and the free (i.e. No time limit) hot shower on a cold rainy day was delightful. We even followed the request posted inside the toilet block to mop out the shower cubicles after we'd finished, despite paying £11 each per night (non-members, you see) and, as has been mentioned before, the block being closed for a good hour a day for cleaning.
The Sportsman pub down the road is really quite nice. We spent both nights in there and enjoyed the welcoming staff and atmosphere. We also enjoyed our meal there on the Saturday but turned up too late for food on the Sunday. Apparantly they stopped serving at 7 to allow for the weekly pub quiz. We entered and although we didn't win, we didn't embarass ourselves too much!
I'd stay here again, although probably only if I join the CCC as otherwise it is a bit pricey.

Stayed for the Spring Bank Holiday weekend. The site has excellent facilities. Toilets and showers are always clean and tidy with plenty of hot water to go round. Loads of water points and nice big sinks for washing up and laundry.
The village is only a mile walk with plenty of pubs, if the weather is decent (unlike this weekend) then the beer gardens become very busy. There is also a pub at the top of the hill above campsite which does food. The village has a few shops, chip shop, restaurants and a lovely river that flows through the village.
The site is lovely and green surrounded by woods and river. All the pitches allow plenty of room for all campers. Rabbits and ducks roam around the site freely, we also had moles underneath our groundsheet that eventually found there way around the tent for daylight.
This was our 3rd visit to Hayfield and will probably be our last. Its a lovely site but we find the staff most unhelpful, abrupt and unwilling to help you out in anyway. This is a C&CC site which is supposed to be the "Friendly Club", however on all 3 occasions that we have been the staff have been far from friendly. We Felt like we were putting them out, even when we visited the shop to spend our money!

Stayed for the May Bank Holiday weekend ( promised a Heatwave but it rained a fair bit ). As a couple we had booked over the phone and though we were not C&CC members at booking we had joined in the meantime and the kind managers of the campsite reduced our fees accordingly on arrival. You can also join at the site.
The site is lovely , green and surrounded by woods and a gently bubbling river and all pitches seemed a good size. Perfect entrance for Kinder Scout walking, bunny rabbits and ducks roam around in the early hours. Its an easy walk along a charming river into the village of Hayfield with village shop, pubs, restaurants and chip shop. Closest pub the Sportsman only a few minutes up the hill from the campsite. Lovely beer garden, friendly and efficient staff and will take bookings for dinner in the evening.
Toilets and showers (no charge) always incredibly clean, tidy and warm, hot water plentiful. Plenty of water points, big sinks for washing up and laundry. Shop seemed to have all the essentials open 9am-6pm and will order you a weekend paper.
Lovely mix of families and couples, no play area but the kids close to us seemed happy running around playing badminton etc. And there was plenty of space to do so.
A lovely campsite and a pleasurable stay.

Visited Hayfield for the bank holiday weekend, this was our first visit to a Camping and caravan Club site. We found the washroom facilities excellent, if anything the shower block was too warm. The site has a very small shop with limited opening but the village is only a short walk down by the river. The nearby pub was excellent and we could highly recommend the food, one added bonus was that we could take our dog in with us. The site is predominately used by walkers so facilities for children are limited, no playground or ball game area, this caused our seven year old some problems. We will go to a C&CC site again but would look for something more suited to our children, I could highly recommend this site, some of the scenery is magnificent and if walking is your thing you cannot go far wrong.
