After many years camping/caravanning and now campervaning this was the first time on a 'Camping and Caravanning' owned site. What a fabulous site, set next to a lovely little stream, (Midges, o well !
Better in the top field to keep away from them. ) and within walking distance of the local charming village, 15 mins, Village store, Chippy, 4 pubs all serving good food, local cricket to watch in the sun, brilliant.
Lovely spot to have a restful, peaceful few days. Walking round about was a plenty with lots of info at the camp shop, maps etc. The wardens were great, very helpful and there if you need them, but in the background not in your face.
The facilities were spot on, clean, neat n tidy and the site was full so well done site team. Small on site shop for icecream n bits. Overall a little gem of a site and well worth a visit, don't forget NO CARAVANS though.

Second visit to this site for another two night stay. New wardens were very friendly - the weather was changeable on our last day and we were told not to rush off if we wanted to wait and see if it dried up so we didn't have to pack tent away wet.
Facilities clean although some campers ignore the mop provided for mopping out the showers after use, leaving muddy footprints all over the place. I mopped it up for them.
It was May Day weekend and I did have to wait for the shower once and the dishwashing area was also quite busy on the Monday morning.
It is a nice stream side walk to the village, about 15 minutes away where there are several dog friendly pubs. We ate in The Royal Hotel which was very nice and also in The George which was a little more standard pub food. We also had a drink in The Packhorse which was very dog friendly.
We like this site and will certainly return.

Fantastic site. Village only fifteen minutes walk for all local amenities. Plenty of local walks without having to use car. The site itself caters for all types of campers and cleanliness is second to none. There is plenty of room for each pitch. If hou do not have your own camping equipment there are pods to hire which cater for all your needs.

Had a weekend as part of the WAY (Widowed and Young) Some of us were in the top site where mostly motorhomes and campervans were on grass or hard standing. I was upgraded to hard standing as I wanted to be near the facilities the toilets in particular. I was put further away than expected with the additional instructions of 'keep everything on the hard standing. I tried to pitch my toilet tent but after a few hours it fell over. Anyhow the facilities were very high standard. The pitches were spotless in where I was. My friends were mostly in the lower field. I regret to say this was infested with bugs - despite creams and so on my lower legs were severely bitten. Anti bite stuff didn't work. As I write this my legs are still not healed.
I would advise anyone booking this site not to pitch in the lower field. Playground for kids, pleasant walk into stone built Hayfield, lovely treat to 'Well Dressing' where collages were made from flower petals and pebbles - absolutely beautiful. I can understand why there is a restrictions for caravan but clearly this didn't apply to the staff. Also plenty of scenery as well as walks some easy some challenging. I probably would return but take extreme precautions against insect bites.

Facilities of a high standard - I asked for a pitch near to facilities and got upgraded to a hard standing pitch at no extra cost. I was informed to keep everything 'on the hard standing' despite repeated attempts I did not get my toilet tent erected which I was to regret at 6am when I got caught short. The site itself was immaculate. Most of the group I was with pitched in the field with tents, motorhomes and campervans. In this field there is a serious bug issue. I with many others was eaten alive in my lower extremities by some sort of bug or mossie. Most unpleasant to say the least. I would not recommend the bottom field unless you gave a bag full of anti bite or repellent. The bad news is no fires whatever is eating people forget a fire and/or anything in the way of BBQ unless its small and portable which didn't help with the bug problems. The top half of grass and hard standing were more than fine.

Just had a couple of nights at Hayfield. Great to be able to arrive up to 8pm as you can have a proper weekend instead of spending half of it travelling. The staff were really friendly and helpful, the showers and loos immaculate and the pitches huge and beautifully tended. A 10 minute stroll down to the village where there are a couple of shops for basics, a great little butchers, several pubs and a chip shop. The chippy had been closed for a while but re-opened the evening we arrived under new management which was lucky.
Great base for exploring our smallest mountain, several routes up to the plateau and lots of good lower level walks for the less adventurous.
Take care getting on and off site through the village as it gets narrow and parked up with a few blind bends. No caravans on site for good reason.
We will be returning as often as possible for the walking and the welcome!

A great start to the camping season, I love this place.
The facilities were absolutely spotless!
The site very well maintained and I found all the staff to be helpful and friendly.
The two new ready camp tents look impressive - though I do not consider this to be proper camping since it has beds and a fridge, but a great alternative for people who don't like 'proper' camping :-)
We found the field to be water logged but we have stayed here before and knew they had problems with drainage.
We were offered a pitch on the members only side now were members but opted for the camping field as this is were we stayed growing up and prefer to be near to the BBQ hut. The members side did not appear to be water logged atall.
The camping pods looked good though do not allow dogs which is disappointing for a site that is so dog friendly.
Great base for walking, and for visiting hayfield village which is a short easy stroll away from the site with a few good pubs and some basic convenience shops.
Will definitely return this season

Booked this site after our first choice was fully booked, glad we did! Friendly greeting on arrival and given a choice of pitch. Immaculate shower block with lots of handy hooks. Wifi on site and considering the location worked really well. The only negative would be that we were near the backpackers hut and some weren't considerate in the morning when they were up early. Apart from that it was a really clean and quiet site, not regimented, the quiet hours rules are observed but rightly so. We will certainly return.

We visited friends at this campsite, rather than staying over night. We had a good look around and put up a tarp to shelter from the rain and so feel qualified to comment.
This site has a lot of excellent reviews and in fairness, these are probably justified if the site is to your taste. It is a very well run site, the facilities are immaculate, there are neat hard standing pitches and three wooden 'pods' that are set a little apart from the central field. Children are catered for by a small play area that has a large, new wooden climbing frame. There is a small shop, which sells a few essentials, but I suspect that you would be better served by going into the excellent looking village stores.
It was, however, all a little regimented for our taste. The rules on quiet hours were well enforced according to our friends, but they would need to be given that the pitches were very close together. Aside for the playground, I think that there is little space for kids to run about without weaving around tents, which doesn't really suit anyone.
It is very nicely located, within walking distance of the village and right on access routes to Kinder. The site had too suburban a feel for our taste, which would prevent us from staying, but if that doesn't bother you I think you will have a good time.

Fabulous site we were amazed it wasn't fully booked although the weather might have played a part. The site wardens and team were ever so helpful, always cleaning, mowing tidying. I honestly couldn't fault the site, but rules of no football, frisbee, were a struggle for our 10 year old, especially if the area he choose to play was empty but rules are rules.
We had a great pitch, plenty of room, would recommend the George pub in Hayfield excellent food.
Such a beautiful location we will be, fingers crossed the weather will be better.
