Spent a single night with the two children (10 and 6) on this site, and we could hardly fault it.
The toilet and shower facilities were lovely and clean, although the youngest did find the shower a little warm after the previous user - maybe presets on the temperature selector may be an idea?
The shop sold everything we needed and for everything else (wine, beer etc!) the village is only a short stroll away. The setting is tranquil, with the river running alongside the site.
There is no children's play area, however the park in the village is brilliant.
There was some noise during the day from the planes coming into Manchester, but nothing too intrusive.
The staff are really friendly, very helpful and cheerful.
All in all a great site.

Fantastic site.Ssshhh! keep it quiet! ;-)
Beautiful views and surrounding countryside. It was stunning really. Fab walking.
Spotless facilities.Shop well stocked up.
Masses of wildlife noises. And birds/rabbits abound.
This site has got it working perfectly, in my opinion. Lovely welcoming relaxed feel. Not too overbearing. Well kept site but not too clipped and characterless.
Midges were an absolute pain.Got bitten loads. Site more than made up for it though.I am going back in a few days

We spent two nights on this site in mid August. Although very busy (the site was full on our second night) it did not seem at all crowded.
Toilet / shower facilities are adequate (low sinks and loos make us wonder if this site has at some point in its history catered mainly for somewhat younger campers?!). Despite the large numbers of tents and motorhomes on site (caravans not admitted) there was never any need to queue for facilities.
A narrow and somewhat twisting access road for the last mile or so could make this site hard to access for longer than average vans.
The staff are friendly and very helpful - especially when we found we had failed to pack the garlic required for our first evening meal! A nice local pub is a short walk away - either along the quiet country lane or following the stream which flows just outside the site.
The location - virtually at the foot of the Kinder Scout massif - makes it an ideal starting point for hiking. We found it great just to finish breakfast, put on the boots and head for the hills.
We are sure to be back!

This was mine and my girlfriends first camping experience. The campsite and the surrounding areas are beautiful.
We was pitched next to the river which so relaxing at the night hearing it flow. We had rabbits roaming around the site which they was funny to watch chasing each other.
There is about a 10 minute walk to the village, which was no problem. Also if you like walking there are lots of trails for you to wonder upon through the hills.
All the toilet, shower and washing up facilities are all clean. The only problem there is I find, is that the shower and toilets close at an inappropriate time at 11.00am - 12.30pm.
We will definitely be returning to here at a later date as we love it.
We would highly recommend this campsite to anyone.

This is a beautiful site with good facilities, toilets and showers always clean with plenty of hot water.
Our pitch was very stoney which we were surprised at, but eventually managed to pitch the tent but we did bend a few pegs!
There are plenty of walks from the site, a playground within half a mile for the children if you follow the river down to Hayfield. Our children loved it there and enjoyed the walk there and back.
The site wardens/managers were very helpful and friendly, the shop was well stocked with all the basics.
Remember to pack your insect repellent as they were out in force early evening and we got bitten to death! Not sure if they only strike at certain times of the year?
Our only grip was that it was quite expensive, as we hadn't been made aware of the additional charge per pitch for not being a CCC member. In the end we did end up joining as the £36/39 per year membership worked out cheaper than paying the non member fee!? However, that aside we had a great time and we will be back again.

We arrived early evening on a wet Saturday, friendly wardens helped to find us a good pitch. Lovely flat pitch for the tent. Gorgeous site, beautiful setting and lots of rabbits!
Showers, loos, shop etc were really good, very pleased.
Only problem was midges - an absolute nightmare both times we have stayed here, even with Avon's special stuff. But still a great campsite and Hayfield is a lovely picturesque place to visit with a great park for the kids.

Fabulous site clean tidy and friendly staff
The showers/toilets were clean and tidy at all times and the water was steaming hot.Shop onsite was full of most things you'd need.Walking from the doorstep, rangers office onsite who were also extremely helpful
Can't recommend this site enough .
The pub near by the sportsman was a little expensive but no more than others in the area and the food was excellent so was the service
Bring on next year because I will be back

I Have used this site for many years as a base for walking the peak district.
It is still the great site it has been for the last 20years I have used it,
Friendly staff and a simple site, if you need a pub one is just at the top of the hill as you drop down to the site. The on site shop/reception stocks a variety of items but if you need more a ten minute walk into Hayfield is all it takes.
The site is sheltered, but can sometimes be boggy in places if the weather turns.
The toilets/showers and pot washing facilities are all top notch and well maintained.
We had to book as I have turned up in the past the site has been full, which is no great surprise really. But it is a fair walk to the next site so if hiking book your space.
Highly recommended site

Use This site most years for our D 'of E' expeditions. Lovely sheltered, quiet, flat grassy site that never seems to get muddy, even though it absolutely hammered it down all night this year. Nice, clean & warm toilet facilities plus very approachable & friendly wardens this year. All in all a great site for exploring the Northern edges of the Dark Peak, Hayfield & Glossop.

Stayed at Hayfield last night for our very 1st camping trip in our brand new tent - novices. The site was lovely - all green and full of wildlife.
We arrived early afternoon and were greeted by the friendly owners who showed us to our ample pitch. We were shown the toilets and shower blocks and washing up facilities.
The owners are wandering about all day and are very pleasant and seem to help with anything. The shop is well stocked - we got our bug spray and candles from there (as well as ice lollies).
The loo's were clean and plentiful and the showers were nice and clean. There are 4 showers but I never saw a queue. There is a hairdryer in the loo too - 20p a go.
Not much else to say really apart from the setting is lovely and the place is clean and tidy and friendly. I'm sure we will be having another visit.
