Well it was bank holiday which of course means rain - lots of it and indeed heavy hailstone storm and thunder and lightening. Felt sorry for those in tents - many were flooded and had to pack up and leave. Site quite small but good facilities and only a mile out of town. Staff as usual in these club sites friendly and helpful. Some local pubs dog friendly and we were able to eat in bar areas with the dogs. Want to return to explore Kinder Scout and the reservoir but would never risk going in a tent.

Cannot speak highly enough of this camp site. We have visited twice within the past 7 weeks. The staff are extremely helpful and accommodating. The pitches are all a good size - you're not packed in as at other camp sites. Facilities are good and clean. There is a play area for the children and when our two (girl and boy) knew we were returning to the site they were really excited.
On our second visit we were unfortunate enough to experience the August bank holiday weekend weather but the staff were excellent. The drainage at this site is extremely good but unfortunately some pitches in the 'back packer' field did flood but the weather was atrocious!
We were offered a refund for our second night if we chose not to stay on site and were told it wouldn't be a problem leaving the tent and collecting the next day. Conditions in some parts of the 'back packer' field were so bad that the staff were actually turning people away.
Fortunately for us there was 'a pod' available so we decided to leave the tent where it was and re-located for our 2nd night. This is a lovely, quiet site and is in lovely surroundings.
Hayfield really is a lovely village (short walk along the river) and the people of Hayfield are all very friendly. There is definitely a sense of 'community spirit'. So, despite our second visit to Hayfield literally being a washout we will be returning to this site. Next time we visit we think we may book a pod as we do need to buy a new tent as we binned our 'old faithful' thanks to the British Summer!
Looking forward to booking again.

Our first trip out this year due to work commitments so a snatched weekend away at short notice. Couldn't have been happier.
A nicely secluded little site that, although a good size feels much more intimate and relaxed due to the clever layout.
The staff were very friendly and ever present guiding people around cleaning up emptying the bins. Shower and toilet blocks perfect
The grass pitches, although a little rocky in places for knocking in pegs, was very well levelled.
Beautiful surroundings and a lovely walk along the stream into the village (chippy was fab), couple of nice pubs too.
Will definitely visit again due to its location for walking (forecast was bad but wrong), that we didn't take advantage of.

We went over the Jubilee long weekend, which gave our break extra atmosphere! The site was geared up for celebrating and taking part in the C&CC 'Most people wearing a crown at once' Guinness record attemt (my husband dragged us up the lovely Lantern Pike to avoid that one!) the wardens very helpful and bunting everywhere.
The site is well kept and the facilities spotless, especially considering the wet, windy and muddy conditions. There was a happy relaxed atmosphere, despite the atrocious weather! Nearby river and woods make a beautiful peaceful backdrop, and there were rabbits scurrying around the pitches. Good for nature lovers.
Hayfield itself, about 1/4 hr walk away along the river, is a great base, attractive but with a good choice of pubs, a chippy, a couple of shops and we were made very welcome at their street party! Lantern Pike is a beautiful short walk, as the weather wasn't suitable for doing Kinder with kids.
Nearby Sportsman Inn very cosy, good beer, food not cheap but freshly cooked and well presented.
Will be back for sure!

I'm not sure whether to rate this highly or not as too many people will want to go! But go you should! It's a perfect little haven of a site with upgraded facilities and a new reception area.
We chose our own motorhome pitch though tents will probably be guided by the lovely wardens who were so kind and helpful and very smiley! The local facilities ten minutes walk or a quick cycle down the lane are great.
There's four real ale pubs- all good- an especially good cup of coffee in the Royal. For cricket lovers, there's a super little pitch in a lovely setting so you can enjoy watching ( weather permitting)
There are some lovely walks- for the energetic and not so energetic. It's a nice walk/ cycle down the Sett valley trail across the road from the village starting by the bus station. You can walk up Lantern Pike or Kinder - maps and guides available at reception.
There's an information centre at the bus station, a little shop and a super chippy. For kids there's a lovely park down the lane.

Not surprising that you can't bring caravans here! The village has many tight corners and narrow roads.
We had a friendly welcome upon arrival. We were able to select a pitch ourselves; we chose the side nearest the access road which runs parallel to the site and a babbling river.
The only traffic on the access road is in and out of the site so not that busy.
The facilities are good. The hardstanding areas are a good size. For walks in the area, ask at reception and they have a guide for sale.
There are so many places to walk to, including into the village which has a chip shop! We walked up to the local reservoir, worth the climb up the hill.
Lovely scenery wherever you look. The site also has some pods for hire which seemed good value at £35 a night for 4 people (there is nothing in the pods so you need to take everything with you, just as if you are camping).
This is a lovely site, very peaceful and we would definitely stay here again if we are in this area in the future.
Highly recommended.

We've been using this site for many years as it has always been the 'traditional style' campsite. A real campers campsite if you know what I mean. Well, it's changed. And not for the best in our opinion. Of the two fields, field one now resembles a Motorhome display park with one or two tents pitched in the middle making you feel as though your on display for the motorhome owners. The staff are still as brilliant as ever and the new shower block is superb. Had some minor teething problems with drainage but this was the first weekend of opening so it can be expected. The addition of 5 new camping pods has ruined the rural view we once enjoyed that also housed a good selection of wild birds along with the rabbits and hedgehogs. All gone now - pods look awful. I think we'll camp in field number two next time as there were a lot less motorhomes. Still a lovely, clean, well organised and friendly site but not as good as it used to be.

We visited this site right at the end of the season in October half-term. On arrival we were offered a full choice of pitches as it was very windy and the friendly warden was concerned that we chose a good sheltered pitch.
As it happened the wind died down a few hours later, but the site was only about a third full so
We had a good selection of pitches to choose from. The site is long and thin and at the head of the valley about a mile out of the Hayfield village right at the start of the walks up to Kinder so is ideal for walking directly from your unit. Access to the site when towing a large folding camper or driving a large Motorhome can be tricky as the roads through and from the village are narrow in places and contain a lot of parked cars.
The site is split into two areas: A grass field for tents with a backpackers drying room and a slightly wider field with tarmac road, hardstandings and electric hookup. This does also have room for some tents in the middle. This latter field gets more sunshine than the other. The toilet block and kids playarea lie inbetween the two areas.
Road noise is minimal, but as others have noted there is some aircraft noise from flights approaching Manchester Airport. As caravans are not permitted (except for one for the warden), the site was mostly Motorhomes with a few hardy tenters. The new hardstandings and electric hookups have made it much more comfortable at this time of year and they are all level which is a bonus.
As others have noted the toilet block is badly in need up an update having been built in 1975 and although large doesn't have indoor washing up facilities or laundry areas. However it does have adjustable height showers with plenty of hot water and no annoying push buttons. The toilet block is situated in between the tent field and the hardstanding/hookup field and doesn't have many nearby pitches. As it carries the WiFi antenna this means that reception of its signal is limited to only a few pitches. However, we found that despite the sites location we got a good 3G broadband signal with a 1. 8Mb downlink speed on T-Mobile so we were probably better off anyway. In fact a quick check showed that all 5 UK networks had at least a 2G signal at the site.
We were able to get a reasonable Freeview TV signal at the site but you must have a good sturdy
Directional aerial pointing down the valley back to the other side of the village where the Birch Vale transmitter is located only about a mile or two away (bearing 245 degrees with vertical polarisation). We sampled the nearby Sportsman Inn only a few minutes walk away from the site. This was quiet but the food was very good and reasonably priced. Overall, this is a good site with moderate facilities on site in an excellent location.

The campsite staff here are some of the most helpful wardens which I have ever met. On arrival they came and showed us around the site, which I thought was really nice. The campsite has a sort of drying hut/room with heating and an outdoor cooking area with a roof whihc is really great.
The site has spent some money on investing in a system to prevent the site getting water logged which hopefully will be good. There's plenty of space at the campsite so unlikely you will be squashed.
The campsite do sometimes worry particularly if DofE teams are late in off the hills, so when booking don't over exaggerate their arrival time. Campsite team were very helpful in dealing with an issue we had.
Toilet block is large and isn't particularly new, but to me it's fine and is quite sufficient.

What a lovely little site. Arrived late on the Friday as we had been delayed, although it was pitch black thr warden was waiting for us and gave us a lovely welcome, showing us our pitch and where to fill up with water etc, we rang and left a message that we were arriving about 8. 30.
Nice new hardstanding pitches, better for motorhomes as the grass elec pitches were not very level.
Very good location for walking and cycling, loads of trails starting from the end of the driveway, had a beautiful walk up into the hills both days we stayed, we were blessed with wonderful weather.
Little shop on site stocks essentials, including delicious home made lemon drizzle cake.
Nice walk into the town up the river, takes about 15-20 mins, plenty of pubs to eat at, we ate at the George which was ok, not great, not bad, we were able to take the dog in with us!
There is also a chemist and a newsagent.
Nice little park. Toilets and showers very clean, if a little dated, but lovely warm water.
Can't wait to return although will probably spend more than a couple of days next time and take the bikes as the trails look fab. Beautiful views, beautiful walks, nice facilities.
