I used this site as a base for mountain biking, The location was ideal and the site was perfect for that. The real bonus of having free showers was superb (we didn't hog them).
The managers were very friendly and helpful, maybe just a touch on the side of, pitch your tent there, not this is your pitch. Not a bad thing on hindsight.
The site was super and quiet and the village was a lovely wander for a few mins away.

After navigating the large hills with some stunning scenery we came through the village of Hayfield and turned off toward the campsite. We followed the long driveway running parallel to the site and parked up at reception to be greeted by two very cheerful and helpful wardens.
We checked in and paid £8.40 per campervan with 1 adult and 1 child, the dog came free. This site has no EHU. The reception has a good selection of tins, camping accessories and fridge, which I guess will be for the dairy and meat.
The wardens walked us to our pitch and proceeded to tell us where all the facilities were and what was available in the local village including how to get there. He also told us about some long stunning walks straight from the site up the side of the overlooking mountain.
The village is a 10 minute walk away where you will find a village store, butchers, pub which also provides food, a chip shop, cafe and post office.
The views from the pitch are fabulous with hills to three sides and trees to one side. There is a stream that runs alongside the driveway, but that is away from the pitches, so no danger to children, it was so relaxing to chill to the sound of running water! There are plenty of rabbits running around the site too, keeping the dog amused whilst watching them all day.
The toilet and shower facilities are to the usual high standard of the C&CC with the main block having four showers and toilets in the mens, and probably similar in the ladies. Clean and tidy and very usable.
There is another large field, which could be tents only and did have a block on this, it could have been another toilets / shower block, or a bunk cabin, I do not know as did not venture down there.
Overall a great site and one I would return to for walking, chilling and just good old camping

This was our second visit to this site with our two young children and dog. We love the area, beautiful scenery, lots of walking and cycling routes.
The site is generally well kept and the wardens are friendly and always on hand. It is an easy stroll into Hayfield which has plenty to offer for a such a small village. The site was very quiet from 10.30 pm. ish and stayed like that till 7.00 am. (apart from the wildlife).
I only have two criticisms, one is the price which I think is steep for a basic pitch and the other is that when you have used the shower there is a bucket of water to clean the floor next to the shower and the water and mop are very dirty, so I would recommend you shower in your pool shoes. That said we are planning to return later this year.

Fab site, this was our first visit to this site. The staff were very friendly and welcoming and the site was very well maintained and set in beautiful surroundings.
The toilets and showers were immaculate and there is a small shop on site selling essentials. You will need a mallet and decent tent pegs as the ground is hard and stony.
You can hear the planes flying over but it wasn't that noisy and I'm a light sleeper. We will definitely visit Hayfield again.

Just spent 5 days here - our 2nd visit. What a great little site!
The site is set a mile outside the village of Hayfield at the foot of Kinder Scout. The winding access road means that this site is suitable only to tents and smaller motorhomes/camper vans. There are no electric hook ups but don't let this put you off as this just adds to the charm of this site - camping as it should be!
The site is very quiet - apart from the sound of rushing water from the stream. There are two areas - the top one having an access road all the way round, is more open giving lovely views of the surrounding hills - the lower one is more enclosed by the wooded valley. There are great walks straight from the site, so you don't need to move your car, and for those with dogs, the walk up the woods was loved by our four legged friend! There is no children's playground but plenty for them to explore and if one is needed there is a superb one in the village.
The warm toilet block had hot free showers - proper ones (no push button) - and plenty of loos and sinks. There is also a covered wash up area with hot water to the side of the building. The block is central to the site, so not too far from any pitch. Whilst a little dated, the facilities were kept spotless clean at all times, despite all the walkers and muddy boots!
There is a small shop on site, selling essentials, sweets and ice cream, as well as some useful camping gear for those items you left at home! The village is a lovely 15 mins walk following the stream, where there are decent shops, pubs, cafes and chippy (not to be missed - pick up your discount voucher from reception!).
A backpackers shelter is currently being built on site, to give a covered cooking area and drying facilities, which will no doubt be very popular and welcome.
The managers are fantastic. Very welcoming, cheerful and always on hand. They say hello every time you pass.
All in all a great site. We will certainly be back!

Nice little site in a great location.
Staff very friendly indeed. Didn't really require too much assistance but you could tell that nothing would be too much trouble.
Toilet facilities are clean and warm with plenty of hot water.
Pitches are very flat even if the site is a little uniform for our tastes but that is just a personal thing.
Ear plugs advised if you are a light sleeper as it's on the flight path for Manchester Airport. For us though this was a bonus as the site is easily close enough for a visit for all Manchester has to offer. Would recommend a visit to the Aviation Viewing Park at the airport to see Concorde and watch a few Jumbo's take off.
The complete opposite is that it is also right in the middle of walking territory (National Trust car park for Kinder Scout is directly opposite) and the site even has a little area for the serious hikers and their tiny one man tents!
Hayfield village is 5 mins walk along the river and has plenty of pubs (the Punch Bowl was lovely but popular so book for meals) and a chippy. The Sportsman is even nearer and does food/cask beer by an open fire. They welcome hikers and dogs with their muddy boots and paws.
We are more than likely to return in 2010.

Just thought I'd let you know about our stay at this site over August Bank Holiday this year.
We usually stay in the Hope Valley & were getting a little desperate as every site appeared to be full. Forced a little further afield I rang this site, the lady on the phone was very helpful & said that yes they could squeeze us in, so we were very relieved.
You have to be quite determined to find this site! It involves navigating some quite steep, narrow, bendy roads through the village of Hayfield. However, its location at the foot of Kinder Scout means that you in the heart of walking country.
It has to be said that the weather wasn't overly brilliant during our stay, & the ground is VERY stony, resulting in a lot of bent pegs until we found you could get 'rock' pegs from the site shop.
We had 2 good days walking with our girls ( aged 6 & 9 ), one around New Mills, & the other around the foothills of Kinder & to the Edale Cross. The rain held off during the daytime on both occasions, however, the dog & I got soaked through twice while walking to the village shop. It is a lovely 20 min walk into the village along the river & much easier than trying to drive. There is a good children's park on the way too.
We had fish & chips from the village one evening, you can sit inside to eat them too if you want to.
The main reason for my writing is to say how fantastic the wardens are. Always friendly & a mine of local information, whether you want a walk, bank, outdoor shop etc.
One of them, Joan, went out of her way to return some games that my daughter had left in a neighbours tent. She rang us at home to ask if they were ours & then posted them out, refusing to accept any money for the postage.
This is a little gem of a site in an amazing location & we will be returning.

Stayed for a weekend to take advantage of it's location to the walks around Kinder Scout. No need to move the car, walks start directly from campsite. Walk into town for fish & chips is only 10 minutes, eat in and you can even bring drinks with you from the pub next door! At least 5 pubs around the village, so there's plenty of choice for food and drink.
Facilities to usual high standard you'd expect from a club site. No play area but village playground is only 5 mins walk away with a range of swings and slides. Lots of rabbits come out in the evening and sit on the lawn alongside the main block.
Watch out for;
- the midges if you pitch on the side of the field next to the stream which runs alongside the capsite. We forgot to take any insect repellant but the shop sells citronella candles/incense sticks so problem could be remedied.
- hard 'rocky' ground in places. Broke my mallet after knocking in just 2 pegs but luckily (again) the shop sells spare pegs and mallets.
Would stay again if we choose to walk in this area and would recommend to anyone planning to do the same.

This is a lovely site set in the middle of some gorgeous countryside. It's a very quiet location (apart from the planes which go overhead regularly from Manchester Airport!)
The facilities were always spotlessly clean and even had the luxury of 'proper' showers where you can adjust the temperature and turn them on and off without having to keep pressing a button. There is only one block which is closed every morning for 1.5 hours for cleaning, but the wardens are very friendly so probably wouldn't have a problem if you desperately needed to use them during the closure period.
There is no playground on site, but the visits from ducks, rabbits and moorhens more than made up for that.
There is plenty to do in the surrounding area, particularly if you are walkers. If you have children, then Gulliver's Kingdom at Matlock is an absolute must (it's a theme park built for children). It's a bit of a drive (about an hour) but well worth it.
I would highly recommend this site and will visit again in the future.

I was wary of staying on a CCC site as I expected it to be very commercial and a bit clinical - but I was very pleasantly surprised. The site has some caravans but mainly tents without hook ups, beautifully located at the end of a very small road and beside a river.
The facilities are as pristine as you'd expect, and the shop well stocked, but it had a small and friendly feel. The washing up facilities were a bit exposed, however. There is direct access to many paths from the site, and a nice route around it which was ideal for our boys to have a bit of freedom, and to walk the dog.
Because of torrential rain, our pitch turned into a small lake, so we decided to eat in a pub. The staff not only recommended a pub which could accommodate dogs and children, but booked it for us too. Excellent service.
