The weather was fantastic (despite dodgy forecasts) and we had a wonderful stay at this super site whilst visiting old friends. For us the location was perfect - as it was for Dylan (the dog) who enjoyed daily swims in the nearby river.
The facilities were excellent as were the staff. Being in the centre of the city meant easy access to shops, attractions etc. Will look forward to returning again.

Lovely site, situated in a perfect area. The site is a short walk in to the centre of Cardiff, and on a lovely day or evening, is a pleasure to do so as it’s alongside the river. The site adjoins a huge park, and is ideal for children, dogs, picnics etc.
The site itself is lovely, is spacious, and not laid out in one line. The shower blocks are lovely and clean and have everything you would expect. There is facilities on site for laundry and dishes and also an on site cafe. You can also hire bicycles, and from what we saw, they have a huge range, from children's bikes, baby and toddler trailers, and bikes for the disabled.
This site is ideal for shopping and for those who want to enjoy a city atmosphere, you can catch a boat near the site along on the river down to Cardiff Bay, or visit the museum’s which are on your doorstep. The new St David’s Shopping Centre is a definite one to visit, as it’s open late in to the night. Although when you are on site you would never think you were near a city.
The young man running the site couldn't of been more helpful, and with his help, made the week end go stress free. All in all this is a fabulous site, and we intent to visit as much as possible.

Once again it was a fantastic stay as we were blessed with good weather and the staff are the friendliest you could ever wish to meet. As mentioned previously the warden locks up and goes home early but the site seems to run itself, it is also worth mentioning that the site has 2 tarmac disabled pitches right opposite the reception they are very convenient for any one who uses a wheelchair or mobility scooter.
We have visited this site on several occasions and never tire of it.

We stayed here 21st april for four nights. This was a last minute decision as we were caught up in all this volcanic ash chaos and were unable to go to spain.
We had a great time and the guy in reception (james) was really helpful. The site was peaceful and the facilities were very good. There is a small cafe on site which is good if you wanna just grab a snack or drink.
I have read reviews on here about people being concerned about the fact that the road through the site is a public right of way. People do pass through but we had no problems. Given the fact that there is cctv on the site which constantly rotates and monitors the site I think this in itself would be a big deterrent from crime.
We also noticed that although reception closes at about five o'clock, the warden came through on foot at about seven thirty. The police also pass through in the evening. This is a great site and we are already planning to go back.

Visited this site for 2 nights 21st - 23d November, I was told on booking that there were no electricity hook up pitches left as the site was full due to the rugby international which was the reason for me being there, I was greeted on arrival by a very friendly duty warden who advised me on the best approach to take while pitching as the grass pitch allocated to me was very wet after the heavy rain that had fallen that week. The utility block was very clean and warm with plenty of hot water, there is a cafe on site which is open during the day 7 days a week also cycle hire is available on site provided by pedal power, the site is within walking distance of the city centre and is run in a very friendly way by the council wardens, it has been 20 years since I last visited Pontcanna but from now on I shall be a regular visitor to this fantastic site.

A great campsite in a superb location. Showers are hot and open 24 hours, they are cleaned regularly and are the best shower facilities I have used at a campsite.
There is also a shop on site and it is well stocked. The campsite is literally a ten minute walk away from the centre and there is a river and a park to the back of the site which is great for a walk or if you are taking your dog, as dogs are permitted at this site.
Management are helpful but didn't go out of their way to say hi.
However all in all I would definitely stay here again. This campsite truly is one of the best I have came across yet.

I used this site for a long weekend with a couple of mates to celebrate a birthday. It was lovely! The people there were friendly, it was very clean and tidy. Brilliant for access to Cardiff city and all its attractions. Will be back there again as soon as possible! Only problem was the light in the toilets went out if you decided to have shower for more than 5 minutes but the challenge to get the light back on before anyone came in to see you wearing nothing but bubbles made it all the more fun!

We have just returned from 2 weeks at Cardiff Caravan park. We booked this visit in March. Friends had warned us that some of the pitches were very close together so as we were staying for 2 weeks we asked on booking that we could have a large pitch so we would have enough room for our awning , table and chairs etc. We phoned again at the beginning of July to make sure they had a record of our request for a large pitch. On our arrival we could see how close some of the pitches were to each other. My wife went to the wardens office and was told 'all of our pitches are large'. She insisted we had phoned twice to check we had been allocated a large pitch. Eventually he checked and there was a note of our request however there was no pitch allocated and after a search of the site we were given a good pitch.
After the initial hiccup the warden was very helpful and was very popular with users of the site. We had the worst weather of the year during our visit but still had a good time. The site is as others describe - an oasis in the middle of a city. Surrounded by lovely parkland and an easy walk into Cardiff. This is great as car parking is expensive at 80p per quarter hour!
We would definitely go again and recommend this site. The toilet blocks are old but cleaned regularly. The only other criticism would be that when we arrived the grass was very long and had obviously not been cut for a long time and was not cut during our 2 week stay. This gave the site a neglected feel. This is not the wardens fault as I believe the responsibility for this is down to the council. If the maintenance was sorted out this site would be a real gem. Despite this we would still visit again as we had a lovely time in Cardiff.

Just back from 3 nights at this site. Very clean and tidy (Cardiff definition (not meaning neat!). Showers/toilets very clean with lots of hot water.
Cafe on site is new and needs support to make sure it survives long term! Cafe set up by charity Pedal Power which not only rents bikes to us campers but provides biking opportunities to children and adults with learning disabilities - well worth supporting.
The cook / chef (don't know which he prefers) Dave is very helpful and creates imaginative breakfasts - mine included asparagus and hollandaise sauces! All healthy products and locally sourced!
I will be back next month for another 3 nights and looking forward to it.
(Weather was not too good - but who cares!)

Stayed here for one night for gig at the Stadium.
It's location is superb the stadium/city being about a 20 min walk away along the river bank. The site sits alongside a huge parkland area with plenty of wildlife.
There is now a small cafe open for a few hours every day which is very good price wise, within the camp site.
Wardens are very friendly and helpful. Toilet blocks were built 36 years ago (so I was informed), they are basic, a bit dated, but clean and tidy with tons of hot water.
The grass was a bit hit and miss, some pitches seemed to have been cut more often then others, and where we pitched the grass was very worn. But we were under trees so that would have an effect.
The site gets very busy at concert/speedway/cricket times. The biggest issue we had was people returning (as we did) from the concert at 11.30 - 12.00am then being really noisy until 01.45. Very inconsiderate! Doors slamming, people laughing etc. Night time sirens were a bit of a problem, but not too bad.
The site is absolutely ideal for short stop overs, city breaks, concerts etc, but I think a bit small and noisy for anything more. Road signage is poor, but the warden is trying to get the council to improve it. One note, if you have a long 'van and car outfit, the entrance is very windey and it might be a bit tight.
If you have a dog there is over 200 hectares of parkland and river for him to enjoy about 1 mins walk away!
Oh, for the Take That gig, the council insisted on two nights stay, at £5.50 per person per night and a further £5 for the car, making a total of £33 which I thought was steep!
We would however certainly return to this site again if visiting Cardiff or wanting to stop en-route.
