Visit number six and basically nothing much to add since our last visit Nov. 2017 (see below).
It's a shame the owners (Cardiff City Council) don't read these reviews, as then they might respond by improving the decidedly shabby shower blocks.
There was a smell of fresh paint when we arrived, but come on folks, for a forward looking capital city, it's getting a bit pathetic given this should be a showpiece site.

I have visited this site many times, last time was 4 years ago, can't say it's changed in any way, shower/ toilet units desperately need modernising. Although everythings adequate, it just needs some work put into it to cheer it up
The site where I stayed near exit barrier was extremely wet, not the sites fault we'd had awful rain for 48 hrs, but if ground work had good drainage, it wouldn't be so muddy, so be aware, plenty of old mats needed, to keep vans reasonably clean!
All due respect the location is just perfect for the City centre or for beautiful park walks. Taxi rates very reasonable if the walk approx 30 mins is too far or too wet to walk in.
Sites fees reasonable after all it's in Cardiff, if your pitch is free on leaving day, it's an extra £10 to stay on until 5. 30.

Be warned if you use this site you do purely for it's location, everything else is below acceptable. General care and health and safety is sadly lacking. Bins were overflowing with waste, road and hard standing areas littered with minor debris.
The two toilet blocks (two WCs and two showers in each) are totally inadequate with historical damage roughly repaired. We used our own facilities as much as possible. The washing up area is like a prison cell and the chemical waste disposal was a rusted steel door with a disposal point inside!
Having said all of that we enjoyed the location and access to the city. It was also quiet at night and we felt safe.
The site was full and is likely to remain so throughout the summer so the owners must be rubbing their hands. How the city council allow such poor standards beats me. One camper has been coming for five years and reckons that no money has been spent on the facilities.

Just spent 5 nights here (for our fifth ever visit) and as usual received a very warm welcome.
Sited on pitch 9 which was all gravel with paving to one side (although our continental van habitation door was on opposite side!).
We fully expected the site to be muddy as usual but they have done a lot of work clearing the pitches, and all the grasscrete ones appeared clean and tidy.
The shower blocks are a bit dated but adequate and were sufficient for the half-full site.
The main benefit of course is the location, so close to the city centre and all amenities.
We had a good Sunday lunch in the Cricketers and wonderful evening meal in Elegano Italian restaurant.
All in all we were happy with the improvements since our last visit and will definitely return.

We have just spent 3 nights at this site and I really don't think we will be back. Location wise it is a great site but it's very expensive and very crowded. Pitches are very small. The road through the site was very tight with vehicles parked along the side.
Security was lacking. We were on pitch no 1 and felt that anyone walking past could enter the site, in fact people who weren't staying on the site were known to walk or cycle right through. The 2 toilet and shower blocks were adequate and clean with plenty of hot water.
There was a cafe on site and bikes could also be hired. Staff were friendly enough. There was no children's play area but there is a great park right at the side of the site.
It's just a shame that too many vans / tents are squashed in. Less pitches and more security would make this a much better site

Only stayed for one night but would never stay again. Pitches were too close together, they were waterlogged.
I think they take too many people on, and so the place gets overcrowded.
No place to park your car. Felt unsafe - men drinking cans of cider at 0700 were wandering around the place. No sense of security at all. As it is in a city centre I think they should have 24 hour security

Fantastic location with all that Cardiff has to offer a very short walk away. However is quite expensive for a place to park your van for 24hrs even with the EHU and water!. Very friendly reception.
Well laid out pitches with ample provision of EHUs, water and picnic tables!. Toilet / shower blocks are looking a little dated.
Apart from the grass around the pitch areas there is no other open areas on the site. I would imagine, therefore, that when the site is full, which I understand it often is, it might feel quite 'congested and noisy'.

I love this site. The staff are great, as is the location. Facilities are clean.
This is a small, well kept site, with beautiful parks close by. Cardiff bay is interesting, and we used the aqua bus to and from the park, which is a lovely way to get there.
My second visit this year. I took my sister to show her, and she also was impressed. I am sure we will be back.

This site is all about the location. A 20 minute walk alongside a river and through a park and you are in the centre of Cardiff where there is lots to do. We went on an open top bus ride on the one dry day which was very informative. Unfortunately we also had a lot of Welsh rain which did curtail our activities. The rain also meant the site got very boggy, we were paddling in the awning by the end!
The site itself is very quiet but beware of the squirrels! As we were staying for 10 days we put up an awning and squirrels gnawed through both the awning flooring and the food cupboard before we moved all edibles inside the van.
The pitches are not very well defined and some seemed quite small. Most of the pitches were used by motorhomes when we were there.
The toilets and showers are adequate, they are obviously old and although I saw the ladies being cleaned thoroughly the facilities always felt a bit dingy. The water in the showers is hot and powerful but it is annoying to have to press the button every 10 seconds. Also there didn't seem to be adequate ventilation so the floor and walls seemed damp a lot of the time.
We would use the site again but not use an awning.

On the whole a very good site that we will certainly use again if visiting Cardiff and one that I would recommend though not without its faults.
Location: The sites greatest asset as described by many other reviewers is its location. Short and easy walk into Cardiff or water taxi to the Bay. Easy access to cycle routes.
Staff: Those we dealt with were both friendly and helpful.
Facilities: Two amenities blocks on site. During our visit both were clean and tidy though both are pretty dated and could do with being updated/renovating. Water was hot in showers but stream only lasted 10 to 15seconds before button needed repressing. I know being on water meter means need not to waste water but should run for longer than what they do. There are no proper hard standings. Other reviewers have complained about soggy/boggy conditions but this was not a problem during our stay.
On site there is a bike hire facility and café that are separate entities to the site and are run by a charitable trust. The lady who runs the café is both friendly and extremely helpful.
Cost/Value for Money: Whereas location is the sites greatest asset I feel that the charges made are its biggest Drawback.
I would have liked to have given a higher rating than I have but feel unable to do so for the following reasons.
Firstly, the high cost is justified solely for the location of the site and easy access to The City centre. However we have stayed at many sites both Caravan Club and Privately owned sites with good access to City Centres and far better Amenities Facilities at in many cases considerably lower prices than charged here.
Secondly, possible security issues that have also been mentioned by a few other reviewers. When we arrived on site we were told that the previous night CCTV cameras had picked up several hooded youths on site and did we wish to leave our bikes in their cage overnight or were we happy trusting to our own bike locks. We trusted to our own locks and never had any security issues whilst on site.
However there is easy access to the site and it seems to be part of the walk into Cardiff and the path through the site is used by pedestrians and cyclists going in and out of the City. As other reviewers have noted they could do with a proper security fence and barriers.
As indicated at the start of the review these negatives would not stop me using the site again should we decide to visit Cardiff again at any time in the future.
