Stayed for 3 nights at the end of April. The site is very clean and tidy, showers are very good and they are at no extra cost. The site has 2 toilet blocks so you never have to walk far if you need a Jimmy Riddle.
On arrival John the warden was very helpful and showed us around. The site even has a shared kettle and fridge, for anyone using a tent that can be very useful.
However, the best thing about the site is its location. Only 10 minutes walk through Bute Park along the river to the Castle and the City. We hardly used the car at all over the weekend, it was a joy just to walk everywhere. As others have said, the site is quiet but there does seem to be a lot of sirens from emergency vehicles in the distance.
I would stay there again the next time we visit Cardiff.

We stayed 4 nights while the site was quite quiet. Enjoyed the showers and facilities. Our two dogs were welcome and we had our own wooden picnic table and bench. A very short stroll brings you into acres and acres of city parkland. Everybody really friendly (but maybe I'm biased because Cardiff is my home town). From here you can enjoy city life, beaches and the countryside, or get on your bike at the site and do the Taff Trail. Highly recommend.

I agree with the previous reviewers. It's an oasis in the middle of a capital city. The only way you know you are in the midst is the distant sounds of emergency services sirens!
If I'm down that way again, I'll be stopping there again.
Bit of a problem finding it, however. Lacking a satnav, tried conventional map reading. Hopelessly lost! A lady told us to head for Sofia Gardens. Went round it at least once. Changing lanes in city density traffic, competing with buses can be fun! No-one beeped at me however- which reflects the friendliness of the Cardiff people. Signage within Sofia Park not very good- you have to guess that the single track road heading towards a barrier is the way in.

We stayed for seven days on the site in July. From the location point of view we found the site ideal for our needs as we were visiting Cardiff for the 1st time and indented to do some ‘city exploring’. The walk into the city was very pleasant although the walk down to the sea front a little too long for us and only did it once ! Being able to walk on the flat in to Cardiff city in 20 mins saved on car parking too(£5+). Early morning papers and groceries were obtained from a local P.O / shop 5 mins from the top pedestrian entrance. With larger supermarkets being a short drive away
Site wise, as mentioned by others the site had caravan / motorhome hard standings and grass on the left of a single one way road, while the tents and toilet blocks (2) were on the right. The hook-ups were mainly on the left of the site around the hard standing areas although we did see cables running from the lower toilet block to nearby tents.
The layout meant the caravans had the sun in the afternoon / evening while the tents had it early morning to mid day due to the site being nicely surrounded by tall trees. The trees were handy because they deflected a lot of the wind.
The toilet blocks were both supplied with plenty of hot water for washing / showers / clothes / dish washing. The toilet block adjoining the office also housed the washing machine and tumble drier along with a rather smelly freezer. The toilets were quite clean but we did feel more frequent cleaning regime could have improved matters enormously without a lot of effort. As a yard stick, we never saw the toilets being cleaned from early morning to late at night unlike other campsites we have stayed on.
The tent area grass was getting a little long and during our stay, the grass around the caravans near to the exit was cut twice in detriment to the rest of the site. We slept well and found the site quiet as of 10pm except for one evening when a local house alarm adjoining the site went off in the early hours and an odd occasional drunk and singing teenager on their way home.
Come the weekend things changed for the worse. Not through over crowding as such but by late night noise through general thoughtlessness of those caravan owners who arrived in large family units and let ‘no ball game’ rules go out the door etc. Not a true site fault, but perhaps closer monitoring / enforcement of the rules by the warden could nip that in the bud especially given the cost of some motorhomes and the fact there is an enormous playing field adjacent to the site.
Security did bother us at 1st given the sites location and the frequent early morning / late afternoon passage of locals on foot and bike down the central road on their way to and from work but for our stay we never had or heard of any problems. Our side of the site was ringed in 6 foot fencing and trees, the other side adjoining the park was trees. There were a couple of security cameras installed but no entrance / exit gates.
Would we stay again ? Yes, but not over a w/e or sporting / festival events. Cost was £15 per night for two adults, tent and a car.

Excellent location - just a 10m walk to the City. Excellent cycling along river Taff to Cardiff Bay and beyond. Several Pubs and small shops nearby.
So far so good! Unfortunately this site was let down by the condition of the toilet blocks. Considering that we paid nearly 20 pounds per night we would expect the blocks to be clean immediately after cleaning but alas this was not the case. Perhaps Cardiff Council should allow the Cleaner a longer time slot in which to carry out his duties.

Visited this site to attend a concert at the millenium stadium, the site is situated 15mins walk along the picturesque river taff from the stadium and the centre of the city, so very handy for both. (the site is also 2 minutes walk from the swalec test cricket ground). The site was very busy due to the concert and was fully booked months in advance so book early if you're going to an event at the stadium. The site warden is very helpful and friendly giving us advise for things to do, places to see ect.
The site itself is quite small with a small strip of grass down one side for tents which due to the gig were placed very close together. The toilets were clean and tidy with hot water availiable at most times (very early morning was a problem). All in all a very nice city site that we will be using again the next time we need to stay in Cardiff.

Spent Five days at this site and can thoroughly recommend it. Facilities were in good order and cleaned on a regular basis. The Warden was extremely helpful and friendly. Although situated in a public park the site was quiet and secure. With a small shopping complex about five minutes walk from the reception area and the City only some twenty minutes walk. (OK I walk slowly) along the Taff this site is to be recommended.

I stayed here in late October with my wife and two children. We booked several months in advance to avoid dissappointment. Despite the time of year, the site was fairly full and seemed to be a popular stop off for some people on the site.
The site itself was clean; the toilets were clean and warm, the warden was friendly and informative. The location is in the centre of Cardiff, but you are more or less surrounded by wooded parkland and playing fields. A short walk away from the city centre and the millenium stadium(10-15mins).
There is a bike hire shop on site. If you want to hire a two seat trike, book well in advance!
All in all, very enjoyable.

When we arrived, the site was very busy. We could choose our pitch out of about 3 that were available. One of them was quite muddy, and had very little grass on it. Our pitch had grass, but it was quite long - I don't know the last time it was mowed. You can pitch your van and awning any way you like on your pitch, and as the pitches were quite close to each other, you could be opening up your awning and practically step into your neighbours awning. A security code is needed for the toilet and shower block, but it was a waste of time, because I was chatting to some girls (while I was waiting for a shower) who were not even camping there and had been travelling all night and were having a free shower! The door to the mens toilet block was always held open with a fire extinguisher. The toilets and showers were not that clean either. There are signs up not to play ball etc. around the site as there are acres and acres of playing fields adjacent to the site. People seemed to ignore this and played ball games around the caravans and cars. All in all, this is a good location to Cardiff centre, and has a fantastic cycle trail nearby, but I would not stay here again.

Nice basic site. Myself and 10yo stayed for a weekend to visit the dr who exhibition. Pretty much as soon as we got there our tent disintegrated pole by pole and the lovely site owner lent us a tent for our stay. This site was ideal for non drivers like us as there was good public transport close by, the walk into town by the river was not too long and the local shops were easy to get to. The facilities were clean, free hot showers and very cheap laundry facilities. The pitch fees were £15 for the two nights which I thought very reasonable. There is a cycle hire shop adjacent and myself and dd hired a tandem for a couple of hours - highly recomended
