Site was relatively easy to find following the brown tourist Caravan signs, for those with sat-nav, type in Sofia Close (Cardiff) for the access road. First impressions, site was clean and not too busy and good flat pitches with hardstandings for the vanners and mobile homes. Booked in and pitched up within a few minutes (small hikers tent). No shop but a couple around the corner within a few minutes walk for the basics, and a large Tesco's a short drive away. Two toilet blocks with keypad controlled entry, one at the entrance the other half way down each with 2 large shower cubicles and and hair dryer (both free), they wern't sparkling clean but certainly not the worst I've seen, I would deem them acceptable. For a small tent, one person I was charged £5 for one night plus £3 extra for the car. My main reason for staying was to pick up my son from Uni and for this reason the site was perfect, even managed a walk into Cardiff, 15/20 minute walk through large park and gardens along the river Taff. You will need to be aware that the road through the site does appear to be public access to the park and sports centre, throughout the day there are runners cyclists and pedestrians coming through, so security may be an issue here. There were also people coming back from pubs and clubs in the early hours of the morning possibly using it as a short cut. They also allow same sex groups, there was a large group of guys tented up close to where I was who came back and were very noisy at around 4:30am. Unfortunately I don't think the wardens stay on site throughout the night. I will use the site again either to pick up my son or even for a jolly around the beautiful city of Cardiff but would not recommend the site for anything longer than a long weekend,

Level site with hardstanding pitches (concrete grid under grass which worked well when we had torrential rain, no-one got bogged down). Water tap for each pitch. Facilities were clean and in working order.
Not the sort of attractive site you would choose if you wanted to sit around and relax on site, but ideal for a city break in Cardiff.
You can walk/cycle into Cardiff on the Taff trail or go the other way to Llandaff. It's only a short walk to a bus stop to take you to St Fagan's for the Museum of Welsh History (or something like that - worth a visit anyway). No doubt you can get buses to assorted other places as well, but we didn't investigate that.
There are gardens beside the river for a gentle stroll just outside the site.
Pontcanna shops nearby.

I can't really understand why this site has got such good reviews. The only thing it really has going for it is a nice quiet location close to the centre of Cardiff. The site facilities are barely adequate for its size. The showers and toilets just about pass muster in terms of cleanliness and quality. There is no dump point for motorhomes, surely something a municipal site should have. In short, if you were paying a few pounds a night, it would be fine. The problem is that they charge £17 per pitch with electricity, regardless of how many people there are. How can this be fair? When will UK sites stop penalising people travelling on their own, and charge per person as most continental sites do? It wouldn't be so annoying if the facilities were much better, but the truth is they are charging super-site prices for what is a very ordinary, basic site.

A lovely campsite. We stayed here for 3 nights during the Millenium Rugby League weekend and it was fantastic, we have already booked for next year. Ideally positioned for Cardiff city centre, only a short walk through a nice park area. Plenty of local shops, take aways, pubs etc. Toilets are clean and nice and warm. The warden is very friendly and helpful. Campsite a little bit difficult to find but keep your eye open for the brown camping signs, you need to come up Sophia Close and follow the road round.

Good site, 20 mins walk to Cardiff City centre and the Millenium Stadium. Nice and flat pitches for easy parking. We went for the Millenium Magic weekend and stopped for 4 nights,we`ve already booked again for next year. Small gripe was the toilet block nearest to us only had 2 showers per side and only 2 toilets in the gents, lots of queuing at certain times during the day. To sum up,great for walking into Cardiff, but nothing else on the site.

We stayed here for the FA Cup Final weekend. We were greeted by a very friendly helpful warden and even though it was very busy with lots of Liverpool and West Ham fans turning up he dealt with each person in turn explaining all about the site and how to get into the town.
The Toilet / shower blocks were clean and the showers were hot - what more do you need to know on that subject ?!?!
Cardiff city centre is a 10 minute stroll through the city's park - which great during the day but very dark at night but I wouldn't of thought it would take too much longer if you walked the road way back.
If you're interested in cricket the Mid Glamorgan cricket ground is right next door to the site which my husband thought was great.
Will definitely visit again.

Once we found the site (not that easy) we were met by a very helpful warden and quickly set up our unit. We were amazed to find how well situated the site is : 300 acres of playing fields and riverbank to exercise our dogs, and a beautiful walk along the River Taff or through Bute Park directly into the heart of the City.
The site is small but well maintained, the washrooms warm and clean (it was freezing outside) and with lashings of hot water. The pitches all appeared to have water and hook-ups. The site appears to lack hardstandings - but in fact it's grass growing through concrete waffles, so no risk if getting bogged down.
Did we like it? No. We positively LOVED it. We will be back :o)

Booked on the morning of the speedway grand prix at the millenium stadium and couldnt believe we got a space, (albeit in a piece of hard standing with no hook up point), handy for the toilet block though and very quit considering the millenium stadium is a ten minute walk away, the rest of the site was full of speedway fans from all over europe. Toilets were clean and warden was very helpful, nice walk into town via the river bank.

We spent a great week in a tent on this site this last Summer ! We can warmly reccomend anyone to stay here because this excellent campsite is very well situated.Although it is only a 15-20 min walk from the centre of Cardiff, it is very calm. There are good toilets, nice showers, the laundry rooms are cleaned regularly. The wardens are likeable and very helpful. There are a lot of things to see if you hire bikes. It is very easy to follow the Taff river by the Taff trail and you can manage to see many things.Shopping is possible in the Tesco, which is a 30 min walk. The path to the city centre runs through beautiful gardens which were very pleasant in the hot and sunny weather. If we could we would like to visit this site once again :o)

I booked a weekend stay here for a reunion/stag do watching the powergen cup semi finals. The four of us thoroughly enjoyed the days activities. The caravan site was excellent, I work in Cardiff and live about 80 minutes away and yet I had no idea that this place existed. What a find! We are a tenting family and this weekend was also about giving my brother's first caravan a first run-out. The owner was really helpful and helped me set up the caravan. After a nice meal and couple of pints at the 'mochyn du' we took about 15 mins to walk along the Taff and arrive at our 'gate'. After a huge day of 'rygbi a cwrw' we shuffled into camp at approx 3am, but we kept quiet so as not to disturb anybody. To think that there is such a good camp site in the middle of what must be the best city in the world is brill. Once the weather warms up we will be taking the kids camping there, (though people were in tents in this weekends temperatures - mad!) so they can visit the sites. And I will never worry about finding hotels on international weekends again. Ardderchog!
