I am only submitting this review in the hope the owners read these and do something. As stated by others it's a great site located in Cardiff city centre with a pleasant 10 minute walk along and across the river Taff through Bute Park and into the city centre; although the site is actually in the city centre itself. The shower block is in need of repair/refurbishment and although it was never appalling during my stay it wasn't as clean as we are all used to and expect. It needs a maintenance program, for both equipment and cleaning.
There was a very unusual continuous-barking dog problem on our last two days but that was down to one bad owner, I don't blame the site. There was no WiFi on site. Attraction upon attraction say on their leaflets 'See website for details'. I don't like being left in the wilderness.
I won't return until I read reviews saying the shower block was wonderful.

Stayed on the site for 3 nights. Beautiful setting yards from the very big Bute Park, so lots of lovely dog walks. No shop on site but choice of local shops within 5 minutes walk. Next to the cricket stadium and close to local pubs. The most expensive site I have stayed on which would have been ok but the facilities were not cleaned for 2 out of the 3 nights stay. You wouldn't want to use the showers they were so dirty. No toilet paper in 2 of the cubicles and no soap in either dispenser. Very disappointed and won't be staying again.

Great location, just a pity the toilets are so badly maintained. They're dirty, too few, and in need of refurbishment. The shower floors are always dirty, as is the mop water left to clean them. The water pressure is just a trickle and the timed water hopeless. The elsan point is like something from a grimy squat.
Other than that, the site is perfect. Just poor marks for maintenance!

Just had a 3 night stay at this site and to sum it up in 3 words it's 'location location location'
The site is situated in bute park just over the river from the castle ! Right in the city centre ! It's a fantastic site for cyclists with safe cycle routes directly from the site into the city, Cardiff bay, Penarth etc.
There's a very large Tesco Extra at the north end of Bute park too.
The downside is the site itself ! Not very well maintained ! Long grass ! Dirty toilet / shower facilities (the showers were just a trickle - very poor) the chemical waste point was overflowing (disgusting) and the pitches were very close together (quite surprising considering its a council run site with health & safety rules etc. ) and it was expensive at £90 for just 3 nights !

Fantastic site, handy 10/15 minute walk through the beautiful Bute Park. Brings you out opposite The Millenium Stadium, right in thd heart of Cardiff.
Staff are very, very helpful. Fantastic food recycle scheme in place. They give you a blue bin bag for newspapers, tins & a cream bag for cooked & uncooked foods. I really like this idea, plus you can collect extra bags as required.
The site has a mix of motorhomes, caravans & tents. Also EHU or non EHU pitches.
Toilet facilities are very clean, never had a problem with waiting - toilets are also coded so no one can call in off the recreational park. There is a cafe on the site & also cycle hire - as we walked into Cardiff we didn't use these.
There is a small pub The Mochyn Du right opposite the cricket stadium.
I recommend this site, this is our second stay here. Hubby & autistic son used water taxi from Bute park to go to Dr Who Exhibition in Cardiff Bay.
Give this site a go, just remember to take shopping bags with you, as it costs you 5p for every bag from ALL shops in Wales.
It was worth paying a bit more than we usually do, for being close to town centre.

Mmmmm… I so wanted to give this site a glowing report. Being fair I think it’s a case of it ticking so many boxes that the ones it doesn’t tick are all the more annoying and frustrating because they would be so simple to put right and at £30 per night they should be put right !
Unquestionably its greatest plus point is its location and as motorhomers it is ideal for exploring Cardiff. Also there is excellent off-road cycling to be had and Cardiff itself is very cycle friendly.
Where my wife and I get annoyed is with things like the pitch being described as hardstanding (it isn’t) and even if there is a concrete matrix to prevent the ground under your unit becoming too boggy (it doesn’t) the actual ground you walk on gets extremely muddy. This not only detracts from the enjoyment of your precious leisure break but could also be quite dangerous, especially for people who might not be as nimble as they used to be.
Also the shower block we used (the second one further up the field away from reception) was in dire need of refurbishment. Random holes in the shower partitions that looked like they’d been hit with a hammer, and really annoying things like where there should be two screws holding up a soap tray or hook, for example, only one screw was present. Meaning that you put down your shower gel and it promptly falls on the floor ! Again not the end of the world but is it really that difficult to put in another screw ? No hooks at all in one cubicle was another irritation and as for the motion sensitive lights that go out in the middle of your shower (or worse) leaving you in the dark – speechless !
As mentioned in other reviews the chemical toilet disposal point was not very good and you probably wouldn’t want to be round there on your own after dark. Not very well located and quite grotty.
There have been security issues on the site as well. One considerate chap advised us to make sure our bikes were well and truly secured as several bike thefts had occurred at night with the thieves using boltcutters to cut through locks.
Sounds like I had a terrible time when in fact I enjoyed my break and will definitely go again. Staff were lovely, Cardiff is a great city and over all the site is good. Just a bit frustrating with its lack of attention to detail. At £30 per night it should be much much better.

Great location for Cardiff!
A very secluded, tree-enlcosed site with no traffic/plane noise yet close to the centre of Cardiff. Easy to find off of Cathedral Rd but the last few metres to the site are quite narrow and twisty. Pitch had own water supply, waste water drain and 2 hook ups. Helpful staff, friendly at all times. Facilities good, warm reception in the cafe. Mochyn du (pub) is only 5' walk and well worth it. Only downside: the hard standing was big enough but the base could not be seen for grass.
Great base from which to explore, would recommend it to others and stay again. £30/night does seem steep though.

Wouldn't call this a 'holiday' site but great for a city break. We stayed in up to now, the worst weekend of the year for the 6 nations. In easy walking distance of the Millenium Stadium and the city centre. Toilets and showers are lovely, the water is really hot. Nothing for children on the site but there is a cycle hire place and a cafe that is run by volunteers and serves a really good hearty breakfast for a fiver. The lady is really nice and chatty, she remember Tom and Harry???? The warden was really helpful too. There is a pub down the road, the Mochyn Du? that serves reasonable meals too. All in all would not hesitate to stop here if I were to visit Cardiff again although the £30. 00 a night is a bit steep.

First, and to put my comments in context, this was the most expensive site that I have yet stayed in. £30 a night is 20% more than than my previous most expensive. And for that the site was disappointing in a number of respects.
For that amount I would expect decent hard standing. But no, our allocated spot was a muddy quagmire. Apparently under the mud there is supposed to be a concrete matrix but clearly the required maintenance has not taken place to keep it clear. Fortunately the warden was friendly, helpful and pragmatic and allowed us and other visitors to park up on the block paved road. It was a little cramped but better than braving the swamp! The chemical disposal point was also below par for such an expensive site. There was no hose to wash the area down with the result that it really wasn't very pleasant.
But onto more positive matters. The best thing about this site is its location both in the sense of its immediate setting and its proximity to Cardiff city centre. The parkland setting beside the river is very pleasant and the delights of Cardiff are only 15 minutes walk away. There are a number of decent pubs nearby including the Mochyn Ddu. But as it was a rugby international weekend they did not serve food on Saturday night so we went to the New Conway Inn on Conway Street. Less than 10 minutes walk away. The meal was quite good but I do have reservations about the standards of the dining area (see my review on Trip Advisor for more details).
We visited the museum at St Fagans (about 20 minutes by car) and were very impressed. There is too much to see in half a day so we will return again soon for a second look.
So does the location of the Cardiff site overcome the shortfalls of the site and justify the £30 a night charge? Possibly on the odd dry day at the height of summer when the quagmire is not an issue but on a wet January, I don't think so.

This site's main attraction is it's location. It is right in the centre of Cardiff and ideal for all the city's sights.
The campsite is right on the edge of the Bute Park/Pontcanna Fields - acres of open playing fields and formal gardens. The whole area is flat and contains an abundance of footpaths and cycleways. There is a choice of paths that will take you into the city's shopping area and other attractions. Cardiff Bay is an easy cycle from the site.
Sophia Gardens cricket stadium, Cardiff Arms Park and the Millennium Stadium are all just a short walk. The main shopping centre has a very good mix of shops starting at the bottom end with several 'pound' shops, your normal high street shops, a John Lewis and several high end designer stores. There are also plenty of restaurants and coffee shops to choose from.
Toilet and shower facilities at the site were at a similar standard to a Caravan and Camping Club site. Pitches are closer together - no six metre rule, but are well maintained and clearly marked. The staff were very pleasant and helpful.
The main downside was that there was access through the site for both pedestrians and cars at any time. The council owners should install a security fence and barriers and have timed access to improve the site. The one barrier at the site is there just to stop you going the wrong way around the one-way system. Because of this open access we were aware of several pedestrians passing through late at night and a taxi dropping off inconsiderate neighbours. Cardiff police also patrolled in a car through the site. Probably due to previous security issues the site is too well lit which causes an illuminated tent. The lighting should be better angled to illuminate the road and not the pitches. There is a gentle hum of city noise during the night but it would not keep you awake.
I would use the site again - it is in too good a location, but I would definitely ask for a pitch away from the road.
