August 2005 Just came back from a busy weekend stay at Bryn Gloch and although busy all shower and toilet facilities we used remained clean and well looked after. Staying with friends they were slightly dissapointed with this site given its "Best Camp site in Wales" awards perhaps they were expecting something a little more from our position of pitch. We were allocated two pitches next to each other in field 6 at the back next to the railway line, stunning views as long as you looked towards the river and didnt look behind you at the ugly white building next to the railway line.
Kids loved the play areas, pitch size was reasonable only slight gripe was the nearest toilet block was in field 5 (only a 3 minute walk away)and field 5 was mainly hard standing tourers which normally have their own toilets etc felt the "tent field" could of been slightly better provided for.
On the whole enjoyed our stay and would return but maybe midweek and not a busy August weekend. Just a quick note if in a tent up near the railway line take plenty of hard ground pegs ,felt like we were hammering right into the solid rock in some parts !!

August 2005 We had chosen this site from the AA Guide, for it's Best Campsite in Wales rating. The Guide said check-in time was up to 11pm. It was only after phoning, booking and paying that we were told the owners normally leave at 7, and we'd have to pitch in the "late-arrivers" section then move the following day. Not good for people who work on Friday then like to go away for the weekend!
Luckily, we managed to arrive by 7:30 and the owners were still there so we got our "proper" pitch, but be aware of this.
First impressions were that the site is HUGE. There are a lot of caravans, with a smaller number of tents. We stayed in Field 3, which was better than Field 5 as you are in rows of 2 backing onto raised banks (wind-shields)which were covered in grass. Field 5 seemed more hap-hazard and unplanted. You also have people cutting through trying to get to the stream.
The toilets and showers in Field 3 were quite dirty and busy, based in a portacabin. We used the facilities in the neighbouring section for the caravans which were warm and clean. Showers are free but you need to continually press the button to run the water - washing one-handed is quite difficult! Also, none of the facilities had hand-dryers or paper towels.
The pitch itself was fairly level, you get a patch of grass with a neighbouring gravel area to park your car on.
The views however are fantastic and the other areas of the site (play area and stream) are great.
Oh, and you may have noticed virtually every review on this site mentions rain. IT'S TRUE! It rained from 2am Friday to 12pm Saturday then from 11 pm Saturday to Sunday morning. Worth bearing in mind!!

July 2005 Visited Site for weekend
Have only been camping a few times but this is my favorite site by far. Had a great weekend there, the weather was glorious which obviously helps.
The views are fantastic, the toilet and shower block are very modern and clean although they get a little crowded in the morning. Owners are very friendly and easy going. There is a play childrens play area on the site but it is right at the top a bit of a walk for young children.
We were in a tent but pitched at the top section, there is a lower field which we were told to avoid. I would definatley try and avoid the lower field the views aren't as good there and the toilets and showers are more of a porto-cabin.
Overall would definatley recommend this site. Rodney Hewitt

The toilets and showers very clean, shop got what you needed, like the barrier good idea, the views excellent to wake up to them every day, wish they where in my back garden. Warden very friendly , will be going back. Karen, Paul and Mirstie for mynydd isa

April 2005 Like Jaktent, we were at the very back of the site, on one of the new 'superpitches' on the back field. This is a hardstanding area, but the spaces between the hardstandings were anything but! It was just a muddy ungrassed space. I had to 'sneak' along the edge of the earth mound to plug the electrics in. However, we could tell our pitch hadn't been used before as there was still plastic covering the drain. From our point of view it was possibly a little unfortunate that the pitch was so new, as we were a little disappointed by it. That said, however, I expect that when that spaces between the pitches have been seeded or turfed it will be a lovely pitch. The views were wonderful!
We were also quite disappointed by the toilet and washing up facilities on 'our' field. These appeared to be a temporary Portacabin type building, with barely enough room for 2 people to pass if 1 was washing. The shower cubicles were also very tight.
However, on a more positive note, the staff we met were very friendly and helpful, and although we left feeling a bit disappointed, I think that when the field we were in has become as established as the others, this will be a very nice site to visit. That toilet block definitely needs replacing though.
Would we go back? Probably, but not for a while to let things get finished off properly.

July 2005 This was our first trip in our caravan (converted campers) and we picked this site for its glorious views, and we weren't let down, this is a wonderful site, toilets and showers v.clean all of the staff are v.friendly - we stayed on field 3 on a super pitch - v.spacious.
The only negative to this site was there were lots of v.hungry midgies and the fly repellant didn't put them off. Would definetly go back but would probably wait until Sept time when there won't be as many insects

May 2005 We were a bit late in booking our bank holiday camping break this year and were very happy when the owner managed to accomodate us on his overfill site which is made up of hardstandings. We weren't happy with the pitch when we arrived as there were sharp pieces of slate in the grass next to the hardstanding so the owner very graciously gave us another pitch. This pitch was lovely and the scenery really is beautiful.
The facilities are excellent apart from I feel there should be plug points in the toilets. The mother and baby room was great for bathing and changing my 10 month old son of an evening and there is also a family bathroom which we didn't have chance to test out.
We had to leave on the Saturday morning as there were gale force winds throughout the night which brought our tent down(not a flimsy tent either) and luckily it wasn't damaged. We weren't expecting any adverse weather especially as the Friday was a hot sunny day. The owners operate a no refund policy so beware if you are in a tent. The security on the site is excellent and all the staff are very friendly and helpful. I feel that it is a shame that this is more of a caravan site than one for tents as it is in a beautiful location. Overall apart from the weather this is a perfect site to get away from it all.

May 2005 Just come back from a weekend away at Bryn Gloch. Despite a Friday night of gale force winds which the trailer tent put up with we had a great time. Toilets, showers very clean with plenty of hot water. Washing up facilities great (4 sinks). We were by riverside so husband and son went fishing no big fish caught but lots of little ones. Added bonus of steam train going past during day.Brilliant chip shop just 1.5 miles away. Will be returning again as only 3/4 hour away from home but far enough for a break.

April 2005 We are new to camping and this was our first ever trip. We arrived on the Thursday before the May Bank Holiday. After passing through the numerous caravan fields we found a large empty camping field divided into rows by mounds of earth, presumably to provide privacy and sheleter from the wind.
The pitches seemed a reasoanable size we ended up a bit cramped on the Friday and Saturday. We will have to take more care over the position of the tent next time, but it was difficult to judge on a very windy thursday in a totally empty field. We returned to the site on Friday night to find the field full and what we had used as our parking spot taken by a tent.
We were luck and had a well drained pitch for what was a wet and windy weekend but other part of the field were a waterlogged patch of mud.
The toilet block was excellent. Very clean and spacious although there was a problem with the water pressure at peak times.
The shop stocked a small selection of groceries and various camping supplies.
Overall we enjoyed our stay but would have preferred a little more room.

August 2004 We visited Bryn Gloch after a very very rainy few weeks, luckily the weather cleared for our visit and the campsite was obviously very wet but still in good condition. Toilet & Showers were absolutely immaculate, very clean and spacious. The landscape and scenery surrounding the site is really lovely too. The only criticism I have about this site is the rows in which tents had to be pitched, just felt a bit regimented.
