Having arrived home yesterday from this site I just had to add my comments. This was a superb site with all amenities required for a relaxing weekend, the pitches were good sizes. The facilities were very clean indeed and there was never a queue (or cold water) The site staff were very friendly and courteous. The local Supermarket was just a hop away along with the local pubs and restaurants. We will definitely visit this site again.

My friends and I have visited this campsite once a year for about the last 3 or 4 years now. We love it here. The staff have always been friendly and if not this, they have always been at least polite and efficient and we have had no hesitations in returning. For me, the price isn't an issue. Facilities are always clean and in good working order, pitches as well as the site in general, are well maintained and good play area for the children. I'm not an expert camper, we just go for the abundance of good pubs in Ross on Wye and a chance to relax with our mates. Cant really understand what all the moaning is about on this website. We are courteous towards other campers and that is what the staff expect of all visitiors as it is them who will suffer for other people bad behaviour. The codes are on the doors and barriers for a reason. If you went in to the toilets in the middle of the night to find the toilets had been wrecked and were not in sanitary conditions in order to be used or your car/caravan was stolen, I could guarantee you'd all be moaning about "why didn't they put locks on the doors/barriers". Also, this thing about the little old dear on her buggy.CONVENIENCE! If staff (however fit) have to walk from one end of the campsite to see someone and then race all the way to the other end. We'd be there all day just waiting to be shown to our pitch! We have never been woken up by the buggy or "road noise". That in my opinion is absolute rubbish having stayed at that end of the camsite on two occasions. We have always found staff very friendly if not a bit quirky but never offensive. Last year we almost had them playing football with us next to pond. A good laugh we thought. Morrisons is very useful for cashpoint, breakfast and morning papers. Also, nice and close to river front as well as town centre. Go there. If you don't like it, you're just too picky!

Wasn't sure what to expect with the negativity levels I had read but as we were late booking we were in and informed we would be 4 down from the childrens play area - so it was nice to be warned but we risked it .
Easy to find just off A40 at edge of Ross on wye - Dont even worry about the approach - so what if you go through an industrial park - big deal
Easy booking in process people very friendly - didnt experience a miserable warden like some. Just efficient I guess .
Lady on her buggy took us to our pitch and helped us get the caravan on to the grass - and as for comments about staff zooming around - she is just doing a job and servicing the customers efficiently.
The site facilities we used were always clean and well maintained - The only comment I have is the waste outlet is tiny and a little inconspicuous -
Codes for Toilets - well I've seen them at other sites - how hard is it to remember a letter 4 numbers and a letter - again cant see what the fuss is about .
Ross on Wye is a little of a let down but only because I expected it to be a larger town and more established - Lots of little hardware shops - is that all people do round there - Some good pubs esp hope and anchor on the river plus the hotel with river views on hill - Went to Thai restaurant for a meal - looks dingy on outside but nice inside and good food - Also was recommended two of the curry houses Oberlash and Zam Zams
Symmonds Yat nearby and Monmouth -
would I go back - yes I think I would - Personally I find £21 expensive for pitching up but then that seems to be the going rate for this level of site so you have to deal with it
And last thing - Morrisons 5 minute walk - Beat that for convenience !

I have visited this site several times, both in our old tent and in our caravan. I Must agree with most of the Negative feed back already about this site. Found SOME of the staff to be a bit on the rude side. Too many charges ( Fishing was £7 per permit, ) one adult with one rod went fishing, 3 kids (not mine!) went along to watch and the warden cross questioned me about how many were fishing. Had some friends come and visit for a cup of tea one evening (Like the other posting) We were charged per person and for their car. They charge extra for everything and watch like hawks for liberty takers. I am sure there are some but I am not one of them. Yes the site is clean and very suitable for couples, especially if you like fishing, which is good but too expensive. I will go back for a weekends fishing. It is a good site and shopping in Gloucester is excellent.

We dropped onto this site , not booking, just turned up for 3 nights. Weather great. I was a little astounded by the high price, at the end of September! Site was nearly empty. Closing next week, for winter. Everything was spotless. But getting into the toilets / showers was like getting into a bank vault. Why so many numbers for the security lock?? I was on my knees at 10 pm trying to see the numbers. Even had to type numbers to get through barrier on way out. The road noise was terrible. Perhaps we should have camped at the other end of the field. The site is too regimental, all in straight lines. Not my cup of tea for summer hols, but ok in Sept.

Must agree with most of the Negative feed back already about this site. Found the staff to be a bit on the rude side. Pitches a bit small for modern tents. Too many rules, (for example you can't take dogs off the lead in the dog walking area, how absurd!) Too many charges ( Fishing was £7 per permit, one adult with one rod went fishing, 5 kids went along to watch and they tried to charge us £45! even though the permit ran out at midnight and it was 8pm) Also when checking in charged a lot more than were led to believe when booking- extra charge for kids, car, etc. Had some friends come and visit for a cup of tea one evening for less than an hour were told that it would cost £3 per visitor plus £3 for their car! Would also be nice if the staff kept to the speed limit in their golf buggy, had several small children with us I found it to be a bit dangerous. No staff around at night but if the power trips out you cant reset it because the tripper is locked in a box. Each toilet block has a different entry number, very, very annoying. Got the feeling that although we were paying customers we were a pain and could not be trusted. Good points, Location to Ross and Forrest of Dean, flat pitches (rare in this part of the country) Very Clean, local amenities, Morrisons, easy to find and get about (just off A40), kids play ground, dogs welcome, good security, had a lot of free pitches even in high season and at short notice. Conclusion very good for people who will only use the site for sleeping, good if you have no kids and want a quiet week end sitting in your van/tent. If you are a large noisy family/group of friends that want a social trip, probably not suitable.

May 2003 This site is very much a "town" campsite - if you like to camp in a field with not a lot going on then this is not the site for you. However, the site is perfectly clean (the toilet block has a code which they forgot to give to us!), the playground is Ok and the showers are good although I have been to better.

Reading the reviews on the web site we booked here with some trepidation. However, our stay was very successful with flat pitches, good clean toilets and showers. The site really looks like it is in the country. Yes - we heard the dogs in the kennels, the road noise from the by pass and the ducks every morning but none of these were a problem. The code for the toilets seems to be unnecessary, there is so much security to get in to the site that you wonder why this extra hurdle is needed. We did not feel overwhelmed by rules, in fact I did not realise there were any although it is maybe because we have teenage children who are not interested in bikes or playing football. The access route is through a bus depot but it is not really so bad. We had a mixed reception on arrival - the warden and his wife seemed to be afraid of contradicting the owner (we never saw him or her) but once our (minor) booking problem was resolved we were left alone for our 3 days on the site. To be fair the campsite was less than 10% full and the weather was not great so there was no pressure on the site. Would we come back ? Yes - the area is great with lots of things to do and places to visit. There are lots of pubs and restaurants in Ross on Wye for the evening. My favourite places were Usk, Symonds Yat and Hereford. Next time I am going to go canoeing on the Wye.

The site is well kept but pitches are just enough to fit Car, Van and awning but not much more. Well equipped and clean toilets including a bath. There is a six digit entry code to the loos which is difficult to enter in the dark and a real pain. There are 2 sets of loos with different entry codes. So learning them is a must. There is a very nice lake and appears to be well stocked according to one angler. The entrance to the site is very off putting as you have to go through a very neglected industrial site and lorry/bus park. But then this oasis appears so don't be put off. Childrens play area which I think should be lit after dark. 400 yards from site is Morrisons big store (nice Sunday breakfast) then a further 200 yards is the first pub with Skittles darts and Pool etc. You will not go hungry or thirsty is Ross and everything is a short walk away so no need to drive. There is a list of rules that you are given and most of them is common sense. Hook up is 16 amps and is cut off after 11.00am of departure. £4 will get you a return ticket to Hereford and is every 2 hours, Cider exhibition worth a visit. A little pricey by the time you add everything on and If you are too loud and have noisy kids at night - stay away. I will go back again thoroughly enjoyed my bank holiday weekend.

Everything is meticulously maintained. I just didn't like the rows of tourers and motorhomes all quite close to each other on a large flat field, no trees, no hedges. You get heavily overlooked but if you don't mind that, then for you the site would be perfect.
Some road noise, approach via industrial estate which was a bit off putting, but once on site you can't see any industrial units. Noisy dogs constantly barking in nearby kennels. A large Morrisons three minutes walk away, a real bonus!
No restaurants around, and a lot of restauranrts which have closed down.a depressed area but access to beautiful countryside, endless walks. Not sure that children would enjoy themselves here.
