With reference to the negative views regarding the owners insistance on keeping to his rules. It is precisely the insistance that maintains the attraction of the site to people like myself who do not want to have other peoples kids, dogs, noise etc. etc. spoiling the peace and tranquility of their holiday. I am quite prepared to pay the premium for the privilege.
My advice to those that believe that the rules don't apply to them or their unruly offspring and are oblivious to the comfort of others is to go and stay in a field!

August 2005 Had good stay in the end. We pitched up our tent at the far end but then discovered we were just next door to very main road. Second day we moved lock stock and barrel near to the gate. Much quieter and a lovely site. Very nicely kept, albeit that there are lots of rules and notices to back this up.
A lovely mown field next to the lake and fed the ducks every morning.
We had to pay an extra £9 because grandad came to tea and grandma stayed the night. Seemed rather steep on top of the £15 per night. But worth it.
So, just don't look at the industrial estate on the way in, do all your shopping at the brand new Morrisons just down the road, make sure you are at the end near the play area, enjoy the facilities, don't break any of the rules and you will have a lovely time!

August 2005 Well, what to say! It is so unfortunate that people only make their opinions known when they have something bad to say.
This is a top class site – as reflected by its 5 star rating. The majority of its visitors (like ourselves) return year on year which speaks volumes in itself.
The owners and wardens work extremely hard to maintain the facilities and surroundings to a high standard. This is a family run business, we are always greeted warmly and help is always on hand should you require it.
Fishing costs £6.50 for a day – hardly expensive for the use of a well maintained, well stocked lake!
There are site rules and thankfully, these are imposed. Children are not allowed to cycle on the site, but that is for obvious safety reasons. There are abundant cycle paths both in Ross town and the surrounding Forest of Dean.
The site does not accept large group bookings or commercial vans – again, personally I am glad these rules are enforced.
We recommend this site over and over and will continue to do so!

June 2005 As with the other comments, dont let the entrance put you off, once inside it is an oasis of tranquility. First class site,s hower blocks spotless, pubs within a couple of minutes walk (Weatherspoons) and restaurants. We encountered no problems with anyone. GO AND ENJOY!

May 2005 We were a bit worried about this site after reading some of the reviews. How wrong we were! After approaching through the industrial site, the contrast is outstanding. We were given a warm welcome at reception and chose a site close to the washroom area. Washrooms are warm, clean and have every facility, including a bath. Although you are a five minute walk from Ross town centre, when you are on site all you can see are trees and mountains. We were not conscious of dogs barking or traffic noise and thoroughly enjoyed our stay, in fact we are going back soon and can recommend it as an excellent site for tents, caravans and motohomes.

August 2003 Well well well...
No ifs, no buts, no exceptions - this is THE place to go.
I'm not even going to say "if you like such and such..." because believe me, you have to love this place. It has everything.
We arrived under a heavy shower and the modern reception block gave us shelter. But it was the guys running the place who started the sun shining again - they're warm, knowledgeable and delighted to give you tips on any aspect of your holiday.
The site is embraced by nature. There's a beautiful little walk by a river on one side, and trees abound. One tip - don't do as we did and go park your van or tent towards the back of the far field, close to the toilet block; the kennels nearby, out of sight, would put earplugs out of business - a minor worry - we could have moved.
Aside from the rowdy canines, Broadmeadow's location simply, in my opinion, cannot be bettered. A short walk takes you into the town centre, full of nice pubs and amenities (go to the Chinese banquet opposite the Wetherspoons, I think that's the Mail Rooms, the Chinese, again, I think is the Canberra)) while only slightly further afield you'll find yourself in some of the sweetest countryside in the 'Counties.
Safeways is virtually next door, which is great, but the campsite revels in its seclusion. The industrial estate in which it is squarely placed isn't as you would imagine, it's quiet and in any case, Broadmeadow is shrouded from all that in its own little country park.

June 2003 Don't let the location of this site put you off. You have to drive through an industrial estate, past the local tip and through a dusty coach repair yard!! but once through the barriers this is an oasis of peace and beauty.
Excellent showers/toilets etc and the staff are really friendly.
Easy walking distance to the lovely town of Ross and the local Safeway.
Only grumble was the malard duck "quack, quacking" under our van at 3am!! But thats what you get for camping next to a lovely lake.
Recommend it to anyone and will be going back next month as it is an ideal stopping point on the way to Wales.

Aug 02 My heart dropped following the signs through an industrial estate and dusty bus scrap yard, but the site itself was very smart and well presented. A great deal of time has been spent on this site and it is very smart. If you want a location a short walk from a town centre then this is ideal. Take ear plugs for the evening, the car noise is very evident, and some local guard dogs know how to wake you up.

As novices to camping it was reassuring to stay at this site with its excellent facilities and high standards of cleanliness. Only a short walk from the town centre and local supermarket. Only comment was the noise - I'm not sure whether there is a local kennels nearby but there was a lot of barking and howling during the night! Would definitely use again.

This is a fantastic camping and caravan site. There isn't actually a site shop but the local Safeway is literally two minutes walk. The toilet facilities are brilliant with free showers, family bathrooms, facilities for the disabled and individual washing cubicles.
The pitches themselves are individually marked out and are very large and there are also water disposal and drinking water and fire points to each individual pitches. They don't mind you having barbies as long as the disposable ones aren't on the grass (they provide bricks) and they are also happy to accept bikers.
The site has a play area for children, a payphone, a tourist information point with loads of leaflets and a large lake home to lots of ducks and other wildlife.
The A40 by-pass is quite close by and there was a little noise from it but nothing to spoil the tranquility of the site. It was great for us to watch all the motorbikes going past!
The town is so close and is really nice and has a number of pubs and family run shops.
This is probably the best site I have ever camped on. Mega!
