July 2003 Excellent site. Nice and laid back with very friendly owners. Facilities a bit limited but clean and lots of hot water. Train noise didn't cause us a problem. Definitely go back and to be recommended. Also a good cafe on site for breakfast and teas etc

August 2003 I have just spent a lovely weekend at this site, I took the tent rather than the caravan or trailer tent and had a better time for it.
The site is dead easy to find being on the main road being Hathersage and Castleton and is directly behind the Travellers Rest Pub.
It is split into two fields, the nearest being for the caravans and the further being for the tents. I found that the caravan section was chocker block (it was a scorching weekend though) but a lot of them did not have enough space to put up their awnings if they had wanted to. I didn't see electric hook up points but then I did not actually go searching to see if they had any. The tent field was great, pitch anywhere you like, obviously considering the other campers around you. We pitched by the back fence and that backed on to a field of sheep, very relaxing watching them do nothing but eat!!! There is a train line running along the site but I didn't tend to notice the trains at all, too busy enjoying the scenery.
The toilets/facilities were not too far to walk, no more than 2 minutes from any spot in the site but they were lacking in size. There was only 1 shower in the gents, that was hot and good, but they certainly needed at least one more as there was a queue at 5pm and also in the mornings. They also had a laundry room and wash up points. I imagine the facilities would not be so busy, if the site had not been full, so don't let this put you off.
Fantastic location in the Peaks, with an on-site cafe offering a Full English with coffee for just £4. The Travellers Rest just down the road served all the nice drinks including Stella, Guiness, wine and a lovely looking menu, they also have a massive garden.
We travelled to the Scotsman Pack Inn in Hope Valley on the Saturday night and had a fantastic meal for a very decent price indeed. It is about 5 miles from the site towards Hathersage and definately worth a look at.
I would like to say thankyou to the lovely group of people that folded up my tent as it was blowing away on the Sunday, they even took out all the poles and placed the tent under the car. WOW
Would I come back?? Yes but not for longer than a weekend in the busy periods due to lack of facilities. The best bit of all it was just £3 per person per night, what a bargain.

Summer 2002 I haven't had chance to visit this site this year but I won't be staying away for much longer. It is a lovely place to be.
On the negative side it can be difficult to get into the shower - so don't go for a full week!
However, the surrounding area is lovely and the campsite itself is a nice peaceful place to be (excluding the odd train).
I love waking up in the field next to the lambs - although if I leave it much longer this year they will be sheep not lambs!

August 2002 We visited in August 2002 (yes, it's taken a while to write our review). We really liked the place because: -it's not too crowded, even on bank holidy weekends (unlike other nearby camp sites). -all the facilities you need, although are basic. -folk are friendly -cafe if you can't be bothered to cook -pub within staggering distance -don't charge you for every tiny thing (use of freezer for cool blocks is free, showers included in price etc) -the train track nearby is not a disturbance, even for a light sleeper like me -good walking nearby esp to Lady Bower

13.06.03 IHave stayed here before I like the site but the toilets are a bit bland. There’s a pub down the road and a cafe on site, good grub but you have to wait a long time to be served. I will go back.

June 2003 We are tent campers and stayed here on 6-8 June 03. The site is about 100m behind the Travellers' Rest Public House.
There are two fields, the first had caravans and tents, the second - furthest from the entrance - was almost entirely tents, due to there being no hardcore road within that field. If you want to keep away from the caravans the second field is the place to head for. Noise from the road is not really noticeable but you do get a fair amount of train noise as the railway track is in a cutting immediately behind the site. We would advise keeping to the end of the field away from the railway line, which is certainly quieter.
Facilities are fairly basic, a few loos, one shower in the gents and a couple of wash basins. There are larger sinks for washing up outside. Since we stayed there last they have built a small cafe inside one of the old farm buildings. This served breakfasts in the mornings, if you wanted it.
It's easy to walk from the site to the local pub and into Hope. Similarly you can walk up onto the peaks from here, although the camp sites in Edale are better placed for that. we ended up driving to Edale to maximise the time on the tops.
In summary a reasonable site, but its facilities are a little limited, it can be quite busy (but not as jam-packed as the other site in Hope right on the main road) and you do get train noise.
(From a first-time user of the website keen to give something back by offering a review as the readers' reviews are the best feedback.)
Happy camping!!

The site location is fantastic, but facilities limited.
It has basic toilets, and a shower that you access by getting a key from the farmhouse. Its about a hundred yards from, and behind the Travellers Rest public House, on the main road from Hathersage to Castleton.
ISTR about 20/25 minutes drive or less into Sheffield, but certainly a deal more during rush hours. But........the local Hope train station (Sheffield/Manchester line) is about 150 yards away, and a selection of the trains stop there.
You can walk straight off the site onto some of the peaks. Lady Bower Reservoir is a short drive away, with a hire centre if you don't posses. Casteton is about 10 minutes away by car (or 40 or so walking steadily).
I really like the place, and IMO its location outweighs its shortfall in services. I'm not sure, but ISTR that electric hook ups are available. I've always used the ajacent rally field.
