We spent 3 nights at this site and found it to be great value for money. Staff nice and pleasant. Cafe on site which is only open certain days, but there full english breakfast is very nice! Shower & toilet block need updating, water was warm but it is very basic. Outside pot washing area available. Lovely walks surrounding this site, only a short trip to the local pub, where you can take dogs! Would visit again but only for short weekend trips.

This site is great value for money and had a nice laid back feel to it. The weekend we were there was full but there was still plenty of space around our tent and nice views of the surrounding hills. The pitch was also good and flat with good quality ground to pitch on.
The site was a little noisy as there was a group on but I have to say that this noise was stopped almost instantly and the owners seemed to do a number of checks.
The shower blocks were newly done and were brilliant. Lots of hot water and nice new feel. The hairdryers are operated with tokens available from the farmhouse. The toilet block was a little tired but regularly cleaned.
There is a pub nearby and regular buses into castleton which is very cute.
I would say a great site that is excellent value for money with nice views and this would pull me back every time.

We stayed for two nights on arrival we reported to the warden an were told to pitch were ever we wanted because the camping field was very wet. Due to the amount of rain we had over the bank holiday but we chose a spot at the top of the site thinking it may dry out quicker so between rain showers we set up.
The trains passed on a regular basis but we soon got used to them.
The toilets and showers were as clean as they could be in the conditions and we have no complaints about them and we never had to wait to use them. The site was about half full and we never felt crowded.
The ground was flat and the next day the ground dried out over the day.
With dry weather this site will be well worth a visit.
The pub down the road was well worth a visit
(the travellers rest) the food was great and the service was very good.
Just our luck the cafe on site was closed due to a family function so on Saturday morning we drove into Castleton and we had a nice breakfast at ye olde nags head it cost about 15 quid for the both of us.
There's plenty to do out and about the caves n caverns lots of walks n cycle trails we will visit again if the weather is better befor we go
for a no frills site for 9 quid a night for tents you cannot go wrong.
we recommend it.

Got back yesterday after 2 nights on the site. We bought a tent for the first time on the wednesday put it up in the garden and tried it out over weds and thurs night. I had rang 8/10 other sites to see if we could get on and no luck. Finally spoke to Hardhurst farm and they said the would squeeze us on. Thay had everything we needed as we didin't have anything. We had bought a hook-up but booked to late for this so we literally had our tent beds and bags. The showers are excellent, clean and new. The loo's need revamping but they served a purpose, what else do you want to do in there?? All the other facilities are spot on and we sampled the breakfast on both occasions.
The recommends about the Travellers rest pub are spot on, the food is superb. As I said we were caught out with no electric so we went to Hitch and Hike climbing shop in Hope. Thanks for the advice and honest prices on the equiptment we bought to see us through the 2 nights we were there. We will be going again and we know what to expect, the misus and myself both agree that we probably enjoyed it more without the electric. Reading and playing top trumps with our daughter with hot chocolate was ace. The location of the site is just out of the village of Hope, the overall area is BEAUTIFULL, we will be equipping ourselves with walking gear as this mini adventure was to see if camping was for us.

Having just finished a 3 night stay at Hardhurst Farm, I have a huge smile on my face because I found my stay most enjoyabe. For me and my family of 4 with for a caravan( without hook-up), it cost us just £13 pounds a night which is quite reasonable. The showers were excellent with clean easy to use facilities and little waiting time. The toilets weren't quite as nice but I found them perfectly acceptable. We went in the on-site cafe for breakfast every morning. This was absolutely delicious and good value for money too.The staff were also full of character and very helpful. The surrounding countryside is beautiful and although the site is situated next to a railway there wasn't much noise. Overall the other campers were friendly and the younger ones didn't make too much racket at night. The local pub, the travellers rest, is just a short walk down the road and serves decent food, has an excellent beer garden and a nice play area for the kids. The local village was nice and peaceful with a well stocked shop for food. There's lots to do like visiting the caves in castleton, going to chatsworth or going on a nice walks in the hills. Overall, this is a great site with a lovely atmosphere and I would definitely come again.

Have now visited this site three times over last 18 months and just booked again for Bank Holiday weekend.
Site is lovely and clean with excellent shower blocks and decent enough wash-up and toilet facilities. There are separate fields for camping and Caravans and it's never been too busy when we have visited - even when classed as full. Pitching sites are large and flat and the surroundings are beautiful. No fires are allowed but I have seen people using bbq's.
Staff are friendly and helpful and they do a lovely fry up on a morning in the little on site cafe ( only open for breakfasts) there is no shop on site but a decent enough Spar in the local village - 5 minute drive away - along with a takeaway. There's also a good family friendly Pub within 5 minute walk - just at end of lane.
It's a great location for local tourist attractions being a 10 minute drive from Castleton and the Caves and not too far from Buxton, Matlock Bath etc.
It is a working farm so has sheep that don't care what time you like to sleep til. It also has a train line running along the top of the field which can be noisy and has freight trains running occasionally through the night but you soon get used to it and we never noticed it for long.
Site attracts lots of large group bookings such as DofE groups so its not the quietest of sites during the day but the cut of time for noise on a night is adhered to.
My personal favourite site, I have been with various friends and family who have always enjoyed it and I would highly recommend it to others.

We as a Family of 5 stayed at Hardhurst Campsite, near Aston, Hope Valley, Derbyshire for 9 nights between Friday 7th & Monday 17th of August. It was fairly good weather with the odd rain in the early hours of the morning. We arrived there at about 7:30pm & had no problem finding the site via AA route map from Lincoln, Lincolnshire to the Farmhouse. We knocked on the Farmhouse door & were greeted by the owners on which we paid for part of our Holiday. We could of paid in full but the owners were happy with this method & paid with cash (Cash the only method of paying here) so take some cash with you. Our pitch was £13.00 a night for us in a 5 berth ridged canvas frame tent.
The Farmhouse is about 50 meters from the main Parsons Lane that you drive/walk onto a stony drive to which has a 5 mph speed limit. The Parlour Cafe is an extension to the house that has a photo of how it used to be a barn. You walk down a small flight of stairs to it but it’s traditional & very clean which serves an excellent cooked hearty breakfast. The Parlour Cafe also has picnic benches & a grassed area outside of it.
About 5 meters from the house opposite the farmhouse door that you knock at is the laundry room which has a washer & dryer. The washer was £2.00 & £1.50 for the dryer & you have to get the tokens from the farmhouse or the cafe. Watch out for the suds when you open the door after the cycle has finished as I’m not sure if we put too much wash powder in the washing machine or the washer doesn’t rinse properly! We tried the dryer once but found that the laundry was still damp after around half hour so we dried our clothes outside/around our tent.
About another 5 meters from there, there were the ladies toilets which comprised of 5 toilets, 4 sinks, mirrors & a kitchen top. Next door were the men’s toilets which had 2 outdoor double drainer washing up sinks on the outside wall with no cover from the elements. The men’s toilets had 4 toilets which one of them was originally a shower which was roomy with a corner bench. The men’s toilets also had 2 sinks, one small and the other standard size, 2 mirrors, a shaver socket and a long urinal.
The toilets had their own resident spiders & webs & were a bit smelly and dated but regularly cleaned by the owners and the mop was left outside if needed. The hot water was timed and was on when I visited it at around 7:00am up until around 10:00am for the toilets and washing up sinks. Just outside the men’s toilet door were 2 large wheelie skips and about 4 wheelie bins which overflowed when the site was busy until around Friday when they were emptied by the waste disposal company.
About another 5 meters from this was the newly built men’s, women & disabled modern shower block. I think there was about 4 very roomy showers within the men’s with 4 hooks on the back of the doors, around 4 sinks with mirrors, shaver sockets, small shelves under the mirrors, hooks, non slip flooring & was well ventilated. My wife says there was about the same amount of showers ECT in the ladies, there was a hair dryer in the ladies & was token operated but she never used this. The disabled shower was security locked, so cannot comment on this.
Right opposite these toilet & shower blocks was the caravan field with electrical hook-ups, hard standing or grass pitches. Walking from the shower block about another 5 meters was a large field gate that was opened to the entrance to the tent field. Watch for the large pit holes near the gate with your modified lowered car! Both the caravan field & tent field was fairly flat. On the left hand side of the gate was a hedge which had the hook-ups for tents & this is was where the train track runs down this side beyond the trees. Straight in front was a wooden fence which was where we were pitched which separated us from the sheep! We were left to pitch anywhere we wanted. On the right hand side there was trees along this side & seemed to be the favourite spot for campers to pitch this side. The grass was well cut & great for playing the usual cricket, bowls or footy on.
There are signs up for No Fires but BBQs are ok as we had a couple on our stay there. Everyone seemed to quieten down around 10:30 & was great. As mentioned in the 3 reviews below we did have a loud bunch that turned up & on the same night they had load music playing loudly from their car & did create a bit of atmosphere with fellow campers as we all looked on at them! Funnily, when it stopped momentarily everyone clapped & cheered but just made them turn it up again! It wasn’t long before the owner came & told them the law of his land! Good on him! Next day they left, but apart from this night it was how a Derbyshire campsite should be, hearing the resident sheep & fellow campers chatting to each other.
The trains were both passenger & freight trains, the noisiest were the empty freight trains that rattled by. These were about half hour passing by during the day & after about 12:00am I heard about 2 -3 go by within the early hours & they didn’t both us at all. There is a quarry nearby & you can faintly hear it & the odd bang but hardly noticeable. If you’re a dedicated Mobile phone/laptop user then there is good news! I own a 02 3G Apple I phone & the 02 signal was excellent but no 3G coverage so back to the slow Edge network for internet! Found my way around with GPS so didn’t get too lost! The site has an excellent view of the surrounding hilly landscape & trees plenty to see within walking distance.
The Travellers Rest inn (10 minutes walk) lovely pint, bed & breakfast, Friendly staff, play area with a lovely garden & plenty of benches, traditional/modern inside out but didn’t try their food. The Town of Hope within 5 minutes drive, here there is a camping/hiking shop, Spar Shop with a ATM machine for your cash but does charge the usual £1.50, garage, a couple of pubs, a Chinese which was very nice food & a veg shop & a butchers shop.
We visited the Speedwell Cavern by boat (Great funny tour guide) & the famous Devils Arse Cavern! Visitors information centre, various gift shops & Pubs within Castleton. There is also the Blue John Cavern but we didn’t visit which is about a 20 minute drive from the site via Castleton. We walked to the lady bower Dam & took us about 3 hours to walk from the campsite with our 5 year old Daughter, but beware of the very steep, rocky & tree root drop that you may encounter on the way down the hillside. We also visited Blackpool which is just under 2 hours from the site, Bakewell, Matlock & Matlock Bath & Buxton which are all within an hours drive.
We really enjoyed our long stay here. I would definitely recommend this to all Campers & give this site 10 out of 10.

Visited for two nights. The site was more than we had anticipated. The facilities were more than adequate and regularly cleaned. There was some minor noise caused by music on one evening and this was stopped immediately by the owner.
We have two children and both enjoyed their stay immensely.
The biggest bonus on site was the cooked breakfast - not to be missed - extremely good value.
There was plenty to do in the surrounding area.
Overall - a great experience.

We stayed at this site for 2 nights. The site is split into 2 fields one for motorhomes and caravans and the second for tents. You can pitch where you like and even though the site was fully booked there was plenty of room.
The showers where free and have recently been renovated. The toilet block was a little more basic but I have no complaints as both the showers and the toilets were kept clean.
The washing up sinks are exposed to the elements but luckily we had great weather so wasn't an issue.
There is a small cafe, adjoining the farmhouse which opened in the morning. There is also a pub within a 10 minute walk
There is a railway line that runs along one side of the site but you soon get used to the trains.
This is a really good site and would certainly have no hesitation about staying the next time we are up in the Peak District.

We have just returned after spending four nights at Hardhurst Farm and found it a really enjoyable experience! The site is situated right next to the owners house and is split ino caravans and trailer tents in one field and tents exclusively in the field next door.
The site is really family friendly and the noise levels from the site is very peaceful and quietens down around 10.30pm, even over the weekend.
The shower blokes are newly constructed and are free of charge with plenty of hot water and I never had to queue once!
There is a little cafe on site also, (we didn't use this) but they appeared to cook breakfast etc, it did only seem to be open in the mornings though!
Washing up facilities are what you would expect and are kept clean and tidy.
The pub on the corner, Travellers Rest, has a lovely beer garden and play area for the kids and it has to be said that they do the MOST AMAZING food and very reasonably priced too!
The toilet block, although clean could do with some modernising, I think that thay may be converted from milking sheds (staying true to my roots on that one!)
The bins and surrounding area also get quite overloaded but the farm operates a recycling policy and so not sure what they can do about this one as they are reliant on the council and the refuse service collection.
There is no on site shop but the little towns of Castleton and Hope are only down the road with the necessary shops there and also well worth a ramble through!
The site is situated next to a train track and although you do get used to the trains passing as background noise, it's the freight trains that kept me awake at night as I thought at times that it was going to plough into our tent any minute! Saying that, my husband slept through it and so it might have just been me that was a light sleeper!
Having said all this, it is a really lovely site and one that we will be returning to. The owner was very efficient in dealing with some loud car radios at 8.30pm at night and having a 4yr old asleep in bed, this was most appreciated!
