Nice site. But no hot water for washing up and no hot water at all in the Ladies Toilets. Also on arriving on the Sunday nothing to dry your hands on at all in the Ladies Toilets. Toilets were obviously not cleaned either, looked the same Sunday and Monday!

Sign post was not clear, you could easily miss it!

Noisy at night, especially the trains which seem to run a lot!

Lots of children running around and in between our tents which was annoying.

Having decided to brave the cold, we brought the caravan out of storage and took it to Hardhurst farm in the wonderful Hope Valley, we made a telephone a couple of days before the weekend, I was told that I could arrive any time after mid day.

The site is sign posted off the main road but the sign at the end of the drive could be easily missed!

On arrival I was greeted by the farmer who directed me to my pitch and gave me a quick run down of the whereabouts of such things as toilets and showers etc, being mid Feb and out of season the male toilets were out of action due to being refurbished, not a major concern.

the hard standing was not that level but was ok, at least the view up towards wind hill was great,

After a days walking in the cold it was a pleasant surprise to use the very clean shower block and that there was ample hot water.

Overall a great site for weekend away in the Peaks and will be using again, the only down side I would say about the site was that its quite close to the train line and trains do run late into the evening.

Yet another year at hardhurst farm, There was a small group of us who had a bit of a get together for a walk/hike in the hills of the peak district. Had some really nice weather and the site is as I remember it from last year, a very very friendly family run site and the owners were as pleasant as they were last year.

The site itself was very clean just like I remembered, toilet blocks were fairly clean but still in need of a bit of updating, as for the shower blocks the mens were nice and hot, with lots of hot water just what you need after a sweltering days walk in the hills, the cafe on site did yet another fabulous breakfast and at a very reasonable price too for what you got, we were lucky as they site was full for the whole weekend. The noise was kept to a minimal and any loud music was nipped in the butt straight away by the owners.

As just like last year an overall good weekend and I would still recommend this site.

Stayed at this campsite in mid August 2012 with a group of friends, all camping in tents.

Site is ideally situated, 300 metres from a local pub and less than a mile from a further 2 or 3 pubs in the centre of Hope. Casual 2 mile walk into Castleton if you want a little more.

Camp site has some fabulous views and is a great starting point for many walks.

Owners are very friendly, even though they must get mithered to death. They obviously work very hard, one moment holding sheep, next minute cooking breakfast, next breath issuing tokens for hairdryers. This should give you a hint that it is a working farm, so sheep racket at 0700 moving from one field to another was plentiful, but we were in the country.

Even though I have lived next to two railways, I did notice the train noise, they were freight trains and there was not a lot of protection between the camp site and the actual track, so noise was certainly audible but did form part of the whole countryside experience.

Breakfast in the Parlour Cafe was great value and plentiful. Cooked by the hard-working farmer's wife, but she always had a smile!

Toilet blocks were basic but adequate, again showers served their purpose and were generally clean on a busy weekend.

Camp site was cheap as chips, £5 per night per person! I felt guilty handing over so little money. They are so trusting too, took my word of how many had stayed, made the whole experience very heart-warming.

Camping itself was in a well drained field, mainly flat. Owners very laid-back, camped and parked where we wanted.

Great Weekend!

The camp site is quite basic which suits me fine, the toilets worked, the showers worked and there were washing up sinks. The owners were friendly and their little cafe did a good value breakfast.

We stayed 3 nights and the site was quiet as soon as it got dark except for the fact that most campers seemed to have a dog and these dogs did bark a bit at anyone passing after dark.

The site is very handy for the train station and also there is a pub which does food and is open quite late just down the lane.

Definately would go back there again.

This camp site is very cheaply priced. We paid £17. 50 for an electric hook up caravan pitch with 6 people and 2 dogs so really you can't complain. However, I am going to. When you turn right into the road where the campsite is, there in no sign indicating that the small road off it is an entrance to the site so if you pass it in a caravan, as we did. God help you! Go into the industrial park and turn round. If you can!

Also, in and out of the site is the same way, so when you leave, just remember no one can see coming you until it is very late!

On arrival we were told by a young boy to pitch up 'anywhere you like' so we found a reasonably level pitch and did just that, (many of the pitches were not level at all).

The train line is on the boundary of the campsite and the passenger and freight trains pass regularly and loudly right by your head until late at night and from very early in the morning! The road leading to the small industrial site is on the other side of you too! A lady told me at the weekend it is quite noisy with groups of people too, however we stayed mid week.

The toilets are very basic, the spiders webs and dead spiders hanging from the corrugated plastic roof could do with a clean up! There was no soap and nothing to dry your hands on either, the floor was muddy and dirty.

The shower block is better however, don't look up. Spiders nests, dead spiders and spiders prey abound. The water was hot but the shower control in the ladies, after pushing it in, lasted six seconds! (Apparently the mens was different lasting up to ten!)

The washing up facilities are outside, not undercover and not very clean. There is one tap for water, one area to dispose of grey water (a drain with a 6 inch up stand) and we could find nowhere to dispose of toilet waste!

On leaving the same boy grimly asked for the money and shut the door on us.

All in all this site is cheap but it isn't worth any more than £17:50, in fact I don't think it is worth that. I wouldn't go back. I know it is a working farm, but if you don't have time to look after your site, clean the toilets, be helpful, don't have a site.

Great campsite, I always use it for when I need a place to kip. Shower block and toilets are excellent, probably some of the best I've seen on a campsite so cheap.

I'm a climber, so I love to hit the boozer after a hard day and the campsite's locations couldn't be better. Less than a few minutes walk down the lane and you're at the Traveller's Rest. Pub has lovely food at reasonable prices.

Well situated for shops in Hope or Hathersage. Owner is always friendly and welcoming. Cafe is a godsend on a chilly morning with a cracking hangover. The breakfasts are to die for.

Campsite is never full of rowdy groups and if there is any noise, it is never after 10ish. Plenty of space to play games on the field and you can wave at the passing trains

The trains have never been an issue for me as they arent ever 5 mins (they are frequent though). Do not fear, they are only slow trains with about 2 or 3 carriages and are gone as quick as they arrive.

First time we've stayed here and we'll definitely be back. We turned up in our camper van and stopped at reception. We were allocated our pitch and then found that our battery was flat so couldn't leave reception. The owner couldn't have been more helpful. He pulled up his truck and jumped started us and then lent us his battery charger overnight.

Plenty of room on pitch, toilets adequate and showers brilliant and free! Cafe on site run by the family serving breakfasts - lovely cheaply priced food.

Just a 2 minute walk is the Travellers pub. Lovely food and dog friendly.

Within easy reach of miles of footpaths.

We don't have young kids but the site was very child friendly with lots of open space for the kids to play

Can't wait to come back

This site is in a brilliant location for crossing the Peak District being quite near the M1 / Sheffield. Beware however that near the end of your journey if coming from Sheffield your satnav might take you along a road above Hope village which is signed as 'Unsuitable For Motors'. This is because it is a long and very narrow single track road with hardly any passing places. Better I think to set your satnav to take you to Hope Village itself then navigate a very short distance off the main road from there.

In contrast to some sites in the Peak District I liked the fact that all I had to do was just ring ahead and then turn up. No fussing about with giving details / times of arrival / paperwork etc as the owners live on the site. Also no barriers / codes / cards and all that stuff.

The site attracts lots of campers in tents and the toilet and shower facilities for the numbers on site could only be described as adequate, especially the male toilets which I feel leave much to be desired. In its favour however, staying here is cheap, it is within easy walking distance of a pub with more pubs, shops, fuel and cash machine facilities in the village and the on-site cafe do a very good breakfast.

You pays your money and you takes your choice I guess.

A well kept site which is in a lovely area for walking or cycling. Its close to Hope village and only a very short stroll away from the Travellers Rest pub, where a very decent meal can be had.

There is an on-site cafe which serves good breakfasts.

Its not the quietest site I've been to as there's the road at the front and the railway line at the back, nevertheless it is nice and the toilets/showers are adequate.

A lovely place to stay if you just want a couple of nights.
