A Lovely campsite, a farm, as you would expect. Toilets basic but working. Great showers, always hot water and spacious. A very laid back site from the owners being casual, not interfering but this did lead to some people turning up at between 10pm and 1:30am, pitching tents, slamming car doors continuously and talking very loudly. This lead to us being abruptly woken at approx. Midnight and went on for around 4 hours. Just as we were going back to sleep more noise would happen. As this was a walking break for us we needed our sleep to be up early the next day but because of this, we were so tired it took a lot of our energy up. We asked for our money back for the two nights and the owner kindly obliged but not sure if he had a word with the noisy people as they came back the following night and were again pitching a tent in the middle of the night again!

All in all a good site, level field but there really should be some noise policy, maybe not totally strict like some but perhaps a no turning up after 11pm or so.

Great campsite and friendly owners. Weather has been terrible so was very muddy but was expected with it being February. It cost £5.00 a night plus £3.50 for electric. Toilets very clean considering the mud and rain. Did not use showers but was told they were in good condition. Also had a drying room but again did not use as only there for one night.

Had to pitch in caravan field as the camping field was closed off for the winter. Camping field is very big and flat so will stay there when I visit in summer. Didn't really notice the noise of the trains running alongside the field. Really good base for walking and the local pub which is why we chose it.

Will visit again.

Excellent campsite, relaxed and friendly. Loads of space. It was busier than we expected for the time of year but definitely not crowded even with a school trip there.

Very good value at £5 per person, per night and they didn't mind that we wanted to bring an extra tent for cooking in (we didn't in the end).

Seems to cover two large fields, we went in the one nearer the road, which is also nearer the train track - the one at the back of the site, if you went down to the righthand corner, would be furthest from the train track.

Cafe very good, decent menu, cooked well, good value.

Loos fine, laundry room basic, but it looks as if it doesn't get used much really, we didn't use it (takes tokens; £2 to wash, £1. 50 to dry, you buy them at the farm house).

Shower block looks newly refitted, clean and sensibly laid out. Shower doors have really useful number of hooks on back and small shelf (perfect for those of us with specs!), room to dress in cubicle - this isn't always the case, some are very small but these were great, so your clothes and towel don't get wet while you're showering, water one temp only but nice and hot for me, on a timer but you just push it on again, like with swimming pool type showers. Lights outside cubicle are on a motion sensor, the sensor doesn't seem to cover the cubicle so the lights went out while we were showering, not that it was totally dark as there was an emergency light, but opening the door and waving your arm makes them come back on again.

Hairdryer takes a token which is slightly irritating and I heard someone else looking at it while I was in the shower and exclaiming at this. To be honest, it could do with being replaced. I didn't use it. Shame as, while I don't care what my hair looks like, I don't like wandering around in the cold with wet hair.

I could see the owners were struggling to keep up with the mud being traipsed into the loos and showers but I saw them cleaning quite a few times - you don't go camping in autumn in the UK if you're averse to a bit of mud really, do you? :)

Washing up area is outdoors, at the front of the loo block.

There is a train track at the side of the site, the trains didn't bother us but worth knowing they are there.

It's about a 5 min drive for Hathersage which has all the outdoor shops you could want (we like hitchnhike best), cafes and an Indian take away.

The farm is also about a five min walk from a pub called the Traveller's Rest which did decent food though not quite such a decent pint I am told. Not cheap but reasonable value.

Obviously, goes without saying, excellent walking and countryside. We'll definitely be staying here again.

Lovely campsite. Electric hook up. Showers were lovely and hot, light in shower goes out after a certain time just open shower door then shut it again it turns back on. Think owners do it to save on electric. Shower operates on push button on wall like swimming pools have. Cafe had cooked breakfasts which was lovely. £6. 50 was good price. Friendly people. Dogs welcome. Lovely pub which serves food walking distance. Washing up sinks were great idea. Cheap piches 25. 00 for the weekend. Lovely countryside campsite. Castleton not far. Fish and chips were lovely got them in next village. Peak district is a beautiful place. Fell in love with it. Coming back next spring to this site x

Let’s get the bad point out of the way first, terrible toilets, really very little good you can say about them. Fortunately that is about it as far as bad points go as I really liked this site and enjoyed my stay.

We were on a long, lads walking weekend, but probably did more being lads than walking and this site was ideal. Fairly quiet when we arrived which meant we could enjoy ourselves with BBQs, various sports and a few ciders without disturbing anyone.

The pitches were level with EHU and as the site was not massive they were not far from the facilities. I’ve already mentioned the toilets but there was a shower block as well, which was actually excellent.

We caught the train that was about 15-20 mins walk away and then walked back via the peaks and they were excellent, beautiful but tough walking and it was great to end up back at the site for showers and rest. We also caught the train into Manchester which took nearly an hour and the last train back was about 11pm.

Local pub was very nice, but we only had a few quick drinks and a game of pool so can’t comment on food.

So overall a very good site and I really enjoyed my time here, great autumn weather really helped, but If I lived locally, not over 200 miles away, I would almost certainly visit again, but so much more of the country to see alas I probably won’t.

Just had a great weekend at Hardhurst Farm. The pitch was great, nice and flat and we could be near friends in tents which was great. The toilets and showers are basic but fine. The kids loved the space and found loads to do. The cafe is amazing, really friendly and great full English breakfasts! We were in heaven. The site is great for walking, we had an easy stroll to Castleton and then the men of the group wandered back after sampling a few local pubs. There is a bus from Castleton which was great for the little ones. I would also recommend the fish and chip shop in Tideswell which is five minutes up the road, great value and lovely food. We will definitely go back again.

Stayed here for a very busy August Bank Holiday weekend (Have stayed here many time before).

The site is large and level and not used for sheep etc. It is very cheap for camping, a mere £5 per person per night with no extra charges for cars etc etc which some campsites add. Tent pegs went into the ground easily! Whilst there the first field was full of touring caravans, the second field was for tents and a third field was being used by CDA (don't know who they are but they were in caravans. Considering how busy the campsite was (full) the noise levels were very low and unobtrusive, the main noises being the trains and a donkey in a nearby field. The trains do start running pretty early which can make a lie in awkward.

The facilities are great. Free showers which are reasonably powerful and hot! Ample toilets which are checked, cleaned regularly and didn't run out of loo roll. Two sinks for washing up

There is a cafe on site which does an excellent full English breakfast (2 sausages, 2 bacon, fried egg, oat cake, beans, tomato, mushrooms, black pudding, 2 slices of buttered toast and tea)for £6. 50

The owners/staff were very polite and helpful

It was bank holiday weekend and we had left it until the last minute to book somewhere and surprise, surprise, everywhere was full!

Luckily we phoned Hardhurst Farm. Normally I don't choose to stay somewhere that has no photos, I mean, if you can't be bothered to advertise your business then why should I trust that it is suitable for me? However, as we were desperate we booked a four night stay.

When we arrived at the site (which we found very easily, just double check you know where it is first, Google map it) I was pleasantly surprised. The owner was friendly, directed us to the field and told us to pitch anywhere we liked, which was nice. The field is a large size and is walled mostly by hedge rows, so well secluded and sheltered. The ground is very soft and pitching was quick and easy (no mallet required!)

The field did fill up quite quickly being a bank holiday but it never felt too crowded.

Facilities are ample; plenty of toilets in the one block, showers ran hot and had good pressure (both male and female), washing-up area was clean, well placed and lit and there is a laundry room with freezer. No fridge.

Cleanliness of the toilets etc was slightly below standard. It is a working farm and it is obvious that the site comes second to that.

There is a train line nearby which can be heard but it didn't concern us in the slightest. It is no different to a bit of road noise when living in a busy town.

It's a shame that the owners don't market their site better as it is a nice little site and extremely cheap. Ideal for hiking or just a quiet family get-away.

We will be returning at some point which, I think, speaks volumes.

Really good site! Stayed here for a night whilst doing an expedition in the peak district. Stayed in the top field with a few other DofE groups no problem at all.

The toilet blocks had 4 / 5 toilets in the men’s and a urinal and sink not sure about the ladies. Showers were excellent warm and powerful 4 men’s & 4 women & 1 disabled shower with 4 wash hand basins in shower block. The outdoor washing up facilities was basic but useful. This site also had a laundrette including 1 washer & 1 tumble dryer.

Breakfast was absolutely lovely I had a full English in the cafe costing £5.50 very good price including a drink. Had electric hookups and water points also.

A few problems:

Trains noisy run till gone 11:45 pm

Location is easily missed (drove by once had to turn around)

Toilets could have been a little cleaner

But all in all a good well run family site and very good value for money.

Would recommend to all!

Really easy to find. A fabulously flat field to camp in. The owners are so relaxed, we were directed to the field and off we went, no specific pitch, just chose a great spot.

The toilet facilities are basic but what more does anyone need when camping? The showers are hot and were never full even though it was bank holiday weekend. The washing up facilities are basic again but they were enough for what we needed.

The trains are not that noisy, hardly even registered they were going past.

The pub at the bottom of the road serves great food and is a great place for kids.

A relaxed site, suitable facilities, great location and cheap!

I would recommend this site to everyone.
