Lovely site situated just outside Hope, the free shower blocks are clean and new, unlike other sites around Hope that were crammed, the farmer put up site full signs before it got near this thus enabling a bit of privacy. Laundry facilities too, the toilets were grubby though.
Like all sites in the Hope valley there is the railway line, its quite busy but not particularly a problem, we did hear the music in the distance from a nearby pub until 1am in the morning, that was a one off and not really too bad.
£9 for 2 adults and a baby per night is reasonable.
The site itself is split into a field for caravans and tents, the lower one just for tents, neither are particularly wet and the ground is soft, there is a cafe on site but we didn't use this as it was packed and if you buy bread from the baker who visits the site at the weekend, be quick, as he doesnt hang around. There is no playground for children but plenty of space and there was an inconsiderate dog owner who let it mess around the site who should've been thrown off.

This is a very laid back campsite which in some ways is quite nice. You are directed to the camping field and can pitch where you want. The new shower blocks are good with plenty of hot water. The toilet block as mentioned in previous reviews definitely needs updating as does the washing up area. Everyone had mentioned previously that although they were basic the toilets etc were kept spotlessly clean, we did not find that on our visit. The floors were muddy, toilet paper ran out and there was no soap provided.
The problem with it being such a laid back atmosphere is that large young groups are allowed in and the 11.00pm quiet rule is not adhered to. I don't mind people sitting around chatting late at night (that's the fun in camping with a group of friends) but when they have the radio on singing along at 2 o'clock in the morning right outside your tent, I do object to that!
On the positive side, it is in a beautiful location, it is good value for money, £15 per night for 2 adults and 2 teenagers in July with EHU.
A bit more updating of the facilities and maybe a ruling on large young group bookings and this could be a great site.

We stayed at Hardhurst Farm at the beginning of July. We were quite a large group (7 tents in total) and were able to pitch our tents next to each other in the corner of the large tent field near to the railway. The trains were quite noisy but you do get used to it and the children loved watching the trains. The site was full while we were there but the field was that big you weren't bothered by anyone else and there was plenty of room for the kids to play football and cricket.
The facilities were excellent - nice warm clean showers. Toilets were a bit rustic but were adequate. Washing up facilities comprised of 2 sinks with no hot water but I'm not too sure if that was because we were washing up later than everyone else and all the hot water had gone! The cafe opened in the morning and sold delicious bacon, sausage, egg butties and also cheese on toast. There is a laundry room and freezer room too.
The surrounding views were fantastic with an excellent view of Winhill. 100 yards down the road is the Travellers Rest with a children's play area and sells lovely food (ideal if it is raining!) All in all we all thought this is a fantastic site and would not advise anyone to come here so we can keep it for ourselves! Only joking it is definitely worth a visit. We will be visiting in the near future!

This is a fantastic campsite. There are great pitches and a separate large field for tents with great views. Really friendly and welcoming owners. The cafe does hearty food, but it is open mornings only. The facilities are fine. The other campers were all friendly and relaxed. There is a good pub just round the corner with play area, decent beers and welcoming atmosphere. It is a popular site with walkers and cyclists, and it is great area for both. Definitely be going again.

A medium sized site with nice views, which benefits from a pub / restaurant with children's play area, just a short walk away. At £9 a night (for camper and large awning, two adults and a child) we thought it was excellent value for money.
There are two fields - one for caravans and motorhomes, and a larger one for tents, but you can pitch where you like. The views are better from the tent field and there's more room for kids to play. We came just after the Bank Holiday, and it was very peaceful. You soon get used to the trains, and the traffic on the Castleton to Hathersage road, and can only hear the birds.
Facilities include rustic toilet blocks, a laundry room, washing-up sinks (there was no hot water though!), and some very good showers, which were also free. The on-site cafe / shop was not open when we were there, so you may need to stock up while out visiting the local villages

Just got back from this site after a great weekend, our party had 2 tents and although we have been before it was the 1st time camping for my sister. The site is as always clean and tidy and the new shower block is great, the toilet block could do with updating but does the job. We had a few problems with hot water to wash up but the site was very busy with it being the bank hol weekend, also there was a problem with the electric in the ladies one night but they did put a lamp in. We pitched in the main tent field and although the weather had been bad (the ground was a bit boggy) we found a nice spot over looking the fields and hills. The passing train at the other end of field you got used to and although there were some people who didn't respect the 11pm rule the noise wasn't too bad.
The area is lovely for walks and even if weather is bad the caves are a much see, the pub at the end of the road is great and has a good play area for the children. The site could do with something for the children as when full they don't have a great deal of space for balls etc, and you have to go to castleton if you run out of anything food wise, although they do do a great bacon sandwich.
All in all a great time was had by all, we like the simplicity of this site and will return again and again.

Just returned from a great weekend at this site - ideally located for some good walks into Castleton and the surrounding area including Mam Tor. The site itself is very peaceful even with a couple of large groups on site at the same time as we were, there really was no excessive noise. The train track running at the end of the field was not a problem didn't really notice any trains going past neither did we hear any noise from the nearby factory.
The facilities are fine - shower block is lovely, toilet block not as nice but nothing to grumble about. Once we arrived nobody bothered us at all. We didn't go into Hope but did go to Castleton on a couple of evenings, bit livelier and more choice of pubs and restaurants. Either walked back to site (2.5 miles) or caught the local bus. Just a perfect weekend of course the lovely weather made a big difference! Would recommend to stay there.

Great new shower block. Site full on Saturday but always managed to use the toilets which were fine. Site level and used hook-up which is great at this time of year especially for lighting so we could read and play scrabble. First time camping this late in the season and also first time without sig but still found it cozy at night and that's without a sleeping bag (prefer a quilt). Lovely big breakfast served from 7.30 - great value for money. Owners helpful and friendly. Nice walks or cycle rides from the site and station close by. Trains pass fairly frequently but few late at night and only one I heard in the middle of the night. Really enjoyed our stay and will return.

Just returned from a weekend at this site. Yes, the owners are very helpful but they are definitely packing too many people onto the site.
The caravan area was absolutely heaving and on the Friday evening we were squeezed into a small space. On saturday night a very noisy group pitched their tent 3 feet away from our awning and proceeded to talk very loudly all night!
The new shower block is very nice. We didn't use the cafe so can't comment although they did let us buy some milk as a favour when we ran out.
The trains ran all night on Friday and were very loud as the track runs just the other side of the fence. The caravan floor was vibrating. Our 3 kids thought it was funny though and they managed to sleep through it.
All in all we had a pretty sleepless weekend. By the time we left on Sunday afternoon though the site was lovely and peaceful and I would certainly recommend staying weekdays.
However, it was pretty cheap so can't complain too much. We wouldn't return with our caravan. The tent field seemed nicer and had better views. Still noisy though.

I love this site so near but far enough away. Near to a lot of walking areas and also the caverns. And the couple are very friendly and helpful. I like the idea of the cafe . Have been here in a tent as well so ideal for bad weather. I don't mind a basic toilet etc it doesn't worry me. But be good for the less tougher ones when the new ones open. The pub at the bottom a saver with pool table and darts and playarea for bad weather times But good areas to play around in. Cheap at the price and they don't rush you off which with a caravan that's great. Wish we could leave it here all the time. Good access roads for caravans. Down to earth site with no airs and graces which some camp sites have when caravans there.
