Just had 2 nights over the weekend here - and our first family camping experience.
Its a great site and we really enjoyed our weekend - nice and relaxed approach by the owners but some could find this an issue as there were lots of people arriving and pitching up til past midnight. When we arrived about 5. 30pm on Friday (its quite local for us) there were about 10 tents by Saturday morning that had increased to 50+ (though the vast majority were small 2 man type tents)and more arrived during Saturday - it is a big field and never felt crowded and we could play cricket while another group played football. We also underestimated the cold and the youngest really struggled and the heater wasn't up to the job so that was remedied on Saturday.
The showers are really good (4 showers and 4 sinks each for men and women) and the toilets are more than adequate though look a little dated alongside the showers (4 toilets and urinals for men). The washing up area is fine with plugs, drainage area either side of the sink and hot water but is not covered. Drinking water tap in between the 2 sinks.
Friday night was also busy for the trains and the road noise was louder than expected but this may have been more noticeable due to lack of sleep - certainly a lot quieter on Saturday night.
We had breakfast in the cafe on Saturday and that was good with a wide range of breakfasts available (full English, bacon/egg butties to porridge), a selection of local cakes available (didn't try but looked nice).
Overall an enjoyable first camping trip and we are now planning for the half term break and hope the weather is OK.
Awesome views of some of the best hills in the peaks from your tent doorway - hard to beat.

Small friendly site where owners were very helpful and friendly. Great facilities with good toilet and shower blocks. Showers were large and had loads of hot water - never had to queue.
The location in the Peak District is great the previously reported train noise did not materialise. The close proximity of a pub serving local produce - liquid and solid ! - was welcome after a long journey.
Pitches were good and well maintained. All in all a good little site which I would be happy to return to.

We stayed for two nights on this site and had a brilliant time. The previous reviews mentioned the noise from the trains but we didn't find it a problem.
The toilets were clean and the showers were excellent. Plenty of hot water. The Friday night was full but there was no problem getting a shower at 10. 30 on Saturday morning. Although we didn't eat in the cafe we had a look around and it looked and smelt brilliant. The owners were friendly and helpful as were all staff who we spoke to.
There was plenty of space between pitches even though it was full.
We were lucky to have good weather. The pub at the end of the lane served good food which was very convenient. It is a short walk into Hope where there are cafes, pubs and shops and is not far from Castleton.
We will certainly be going again as they are open more or less all year around.

Just got back from a walking weekend with some friends, on arrival to the site it looked rather clean with caravan and other touring units to the left in a field and tents in the second field which was rather large.
This site seemed rather popular as it was full at the time. The field was large and was able to accommodate around 30 - 35 tents.
This site has only the basic amenities which was good for myself and there was plenty of hot water, the toilet block was separate from the shower block and the washing up sinks were on the outside and at busy times you could have to queue up for, the mens toilets could do with a upgrade but the shower block seemed fairly new and up to date.
I can recommend this site as the views were just perfect, I will stay here again.
There is a local pub just a few minutes walk from the campsite which did rather good for value meals and you have castleton just a short drive away too with local shops.

Just spent a weekend at this campsite and it was great so laid back, showers are free push button type but nice and warm, loos are kept clean always loads of loo roll, there's a laundry.
There's no playground for kids but you can play games at the side of your van,
About 10 min drive to castleton, 5 min walk to hope
Would definitely go there again and its only £17. 50 a night with electric hook up, that's per van with as many people as you want
Trees at entrance could do with cutting back and better sign posted

We booked 3 pitches on a very busy weekend(because of the lovely weather forecast). We were the first to arrive, and our party was a mix of tents and a touring caravan. Albeit the owners seemed a bit disorganised at placing us, considering that we had booked well in advance, their willingness to help and get us sorted was faultless. They allowed us to pitch all together in the tent field with EHU. The views of the hills were breathtaking.
The toilet block was pretty basic but clean, considering the amount of footfall in and out over the weekend. The showers were more modern and worked on a push button similar to those at the swimming baths. The site is popular with schools and other youth groups undertaking their Duke of Edinburgh award, so as you might imagine, the facilities were extremely busy first thing - however, we were happy to hang on until the cleaner had been in, leaving lovely fresh loos and showers!
The washing up sinks, although not under cover had red hot water available all day.
There is no playground on the site, but The Pub just approximately 200 yards down the lane has a superb garden with beautiful wooden play area and fantastic views.
The reception to the site is a little farm house, with a cafe on the side of the house - which served cooked breakfasts and home-made cakes at excellent value, with tables outside, or inside the quaint cottage style seating area.
As mentioned above, although the site was busy with teenagers working for their awards, they were no trouble to us, and quiet when required - and in fact were happy to let our kids join in their games.
We consider this site to be excellent value for money, and a perfect place from which to explore the beautiful Hope Valley and surrounding areas.
We will definitely return again and would highly recommend this site.

The site was full all weekend but by no means overcrowded,
The facilities are adequate
You are in the heart of the peak district everything you may need is available in the surrounding villages, the local Indian take away even delivered to the site (great food as well)
The owners are great very laid back, serving breakfast from the cafe which was of very high standard.
Good pub at the bottom of the road a very short walk and a brilliant beer garden with play area for the kids.
We will definitely be back very soon.

Hardhurst farm camp site is a lovely family friendly site, we used one of the electric hook up pitches for a weekend in the caravan. The facilities were well kept and clean. There is a great on site cafe serving tasty food and a full english breakfast is amazing value and includes the works!
The local pub is just around the corner, as is the local train station and bus stops. The area is outstanding for walking and set in the Hope Valley not far from the village of Castleton. We have been back many a time in the past with our family, sometimes with tent and sometimes with caravan. Many of our friends now use the site since we recommended it to them. A great site, well situated and lovely family too.

In brief this is a great campsite. Yes the toilet block is in need of refurbishment but this block houses the toilets only with the free showers and main wash basins in another more modern block. The pot washing must have improved slightly since previous reviews as there is now hot water at each of the two outdoor sinks – the queues that form when busy are the only real downside to them. I never tried the Café but it was very popular providing the traditional full English and butties.
The tent field is fairly flat and offers EHU for about 9 tents but the owner will lend out long cables that he utilises to get more tents hooked up from power points in the adjacent caravan and camper field – he also put tents in the van field if space permits.
Train noise? I can’t really comment as I live right next to the east coast mainline so have become so used to passing trains I only rarely ever notice them. But, after being asked by a fellow camper just arrived what the train noise was like, I paid more attention and noted that the trains are only small two carriage commuters (one large goods train from the nearby quarry did pass on Sunday) running about one an hour during the day so the noise they make is brief.
This site offers just the basics so may not be to everybody’s likes, but I loved it. The cost was very reasonable; our early June weekend (which was busy) cost us £12 per night (with EHU) for a Nevada M and extension – the site has a small, medium and large pricing policy which appears to be set at the whim of the owner as when I first booked a pitch over the telephone he quoted £13.50 a night, but this obviously changed when he decided the our tent was of medium size.
Great base location for Peak district exploration and within easy walking distance of Castleton with a pub just round the corner, small Spar at Hope, CoOp at Bradwell and a large Morrisons at Chapel-en-le-frith a short, very scenic, drive away. I would definitely stay here again.

Treated ourselves to a weekend away in 'Penfold' one of our JollyCampervans Fleet for my birthday, whilst 7 months pregnant.
Loved the laid back atmosphere of the campsite and thought it was great value for money, also the electric hook up pitches provided ample space between plots.
Superb pub 5 minutes down the road serving great food and a play area for the children.
Also plenty of nice walks setting out straight from the campsite including a couple that pass by some scrummy cake shops.
