Just spent the weekend at this site with a few friends and enjoyed it immensely
The purpose of this visit was to take in a walking weekend in the surrounding area. Have visited this site before last year when it was very wet and muddy This time it was snowing which is what you would expect this time of year ! I found the facilities to be adequate and had not changed since my previous visit Owners very laid back told us where to pitch we had opted for ehu and was charged £9. 50 per night for a small tent, one person.
A short walk up the hill leads to the station which took us to nearby village of Edale One of my favourite locations, great for walking and two pubs to choose from
We decided to eat more local and returned to the site A two minute walk took us to the Travellers Rest where we had a good meal reasonably priced I would recommend this pub especially the distance from the site
A good site with different types of units there this weekend including seven tents would definitely return

Have stayed here a couple of times now. While out walking in the area this year, I made a point of looking at the other sites near Hope, Castleton and Edale and Hardhurst Farm is still my preferred site in the area. Taste in campsites is obviously a subjective matter, but this one scores well on my key criteria: location, price, availability of hot showers, and that one can park the car by the tent!
The tariff was £6 per person per night and no charge for cars; some of the nearby campsites seem to have a minimum charge assuming two people, so are expensive if you are on your own. As others have noted, the owner is incredibly relaxed, to the point of not chasing people for fees and not providing any kind of proof you've paid. I had no trouble at all with noise at night; I can imagine there might be in high season and/or at weekends, though personally I find ear plugs solve such problems. A big DoE group was present when I was there, but they were well-behaved.
Although the site has attracted some criticism for the facilities, I thought they were good (four showers for men and four for women, all free to use, separate toilets with soap dispenser, paper towels and air dryer, two sinks for washing up, water always hot). The owners have clearly put some thought into the facilities. The floors did sometimes get a bit muddy but that is camping, and I never found it a problem. The weather was good, so that probably helped.
The railway line is a mixed blessing: make sure you don't pitch at the north end of the tent field, as the trains are very noisy and a few run during the night. But on the upside, for walkers, it's a big plus being so close to Hope railway station, as one can do several walks, including linear walks, without needing a car.
In case it matters to you, mobile phone coverage on all four networks is fine.
If I may, I'll also put in a recommendation for the Hope Chest Deli, next to the Spar in Hope, which sells ciabattas for £3-£4 that are great for lunch and seem to go on forever. And the Spar is open until 10pm.

The location of this campsite is fantastic - short walk to a pub which did good food, short drive to places we wanted to visit and good views from the site.
The facilities weren't pleasant, didn't seem clean, dreadful smell and not enough for the number of people on the site.
Our first night we parked on the first field as we had paid for a hook up. There were groups partying until after 3am. Our second night we moved to the other field, deciding to do without the hook up. It was quieter but still noise.
Overall, wouldn't recommend during high season. May be better when not so busy.

Site location is wonderful with fantastic views all round. A walkers paradise. Unfortunately, the facilities were awful. Toilets and showers were absolutely filthy and smelly. Only one water tap for the whole site. Chemical disposal point hidden away behind the bins, as was the sign pointing to it. Caravans in the caravan field seemed to be crammed together. Very noisy early in the morning. We were woken at 6. 30am by a lady in the farm house shouting at her dogs.
Owners were very friendly though, even the so-called rude son. Nice pub around the corner and Hope is a very pleasant village about 10 minutes walk away.
So to sum up, Lovely location but poor facilities.
Don't think we will go again at £18. 00 a night, especially as there are lots of other sites to choose from in this location.

I visit this site, every year now for the last 5 years always at the same time and I think that speaks volumes in itself. The owner is as helpful as anyone I've come across. Nice shower block and toilet block just upgraded. Easy to get to local pub and Hope village. Shower does get muddy at times with walkers getting changed out of their hiking gear. There's a good choice of campsites in the area and I'll always come back here.

Just spent 6 nights at Hardhurst Farm and had a really great time. The March sunshine helped and made the scenery even more spectacular. The owners were very friendly and were quite laid back about where to pitch. We had a hard standing pitch with EHU that cost £13. 50 per night so really good value for 2 of us. There is a toilet block with plenty of toilet roll, soap and paper towels. The separate shower block had great showers really hot and free. The site is a 5 minute walk to The Travellers Rest pub and a short walk to Hope with more pubs and tea rooms. There is a regular bus service to Castleton and Hathersage. All in all a great little site ideally placed for walking as well as visiting the neighbouring villages.

We went here for a long weekend away in our Folding Camper. The idea was to meet up with other members of UKCS.
On arrival we were met by an elderly man who was very pleasant and showed us where to site ourselves.
The ground was very wet but with care caused no real problem.
We were on the Caravan side, the camping field was very wet and closed.
We pitched up and I left the car next to the trailer on the grass which was stuck when we wanted to go out the next morning.
Nearby was several small villages which provided basic shops/small supermarkets or about 20 mins away was Buxton which had everything.
We had a very pleasant meal in the Travellers Rest, 6 Dogs and 13 people all catered for with no problem and there was not much delay with the food despite there being a variety of dishes ordered.
The site had been notified of our wishes to Barbecue and have an evening gathering and we were told no problems just no campfires!
A campfire to me is a fire on the ground which causes damage to the grass so that was a fair comment. We had a firepit/barbecue which was on legs and caused no damage to the ground and even dried some of the mud up. On both Friday and Saturday we had a 'get together' around the barbecue which was great, we tried to keep the noise down and were finished by about 10. 30pm each night. On both occasions a very rude man from the campsite came and told us to put the fire out. There was no if's or but's, just do as he said and he walked off muttering down the field.
It was a disappointing addition to a very pleasant time considering there was another group the other side who had a large fire and were noisy to midnight plus.
The campsite is obviously run by a family, it seems the younger generation needs a lesson in Customer Service!
There would be problems if the camping field was open because I don't think the facilities are enough to cope.
Despite the staff, I would use the site again, but there are plenty of choices in the area so it would not be my first choice.

We arrived at the site and were greeted very pleasantly by a lovely woman, we paid our fees (£5. 50 per night each for adults plus £3. 50 for electric).
The camping field was closed when we visited so we were told to pitch in the caravan field. The ground was very muddy/boggy but we visited in winter so it's to be expected.
We pitched okay and explored the site. It has basic toilet facilities (heated). They were very muddy, the owners did clean it daily but with the time of year it was soon muddy again. Not their fault though. Plus if you're camping in winter then expect dirt/mud.
The showers are fantastic, very powerful, nice and hot.
There is a utility room with washing machine, tumble dryer and a freezer for ice packs. You can purchase tokens for the washer/dryer from the farmhouse.
There are two washing up sinks but these are outside and exposed to the elements which was unpleasant when it was raining.
On one of our nights there we had a BBQ and kept it going after we finished eating to keep warm (which we had been given permission for prior to visiting) whilst sat round it the owner came over and he told us to put it out very rudely, whilst trying to explain that it was a bbq and we had permission he swore at us and told us again to put it out and walked off. As a paying customer I feel I deserve respect and probably wouldn't visit again.
There was a pub at the bottom of the road (less than a 5 minute walk) which served lovely food. A petrol station/shop was about 2 miles down the road and the local village was about 2. 5 miles away. Also, around 10 miles away is the town of Buxton which has everything you could need.
There are some lovely walks nearby, with Ladybower Reservoir only a couple of miles away which is a lovely scenic place.
Overall, the site is nice and the area is lovely, just a shame about the rudeness of the owner.
Also, we visited with our 14 month old daughter and were a little disappointed that they had no baby facilities, no change, bath etc.

The site is well located, for walks and site seeing.
For canines to have a good run off the lead, Derwent valley and Dam is a great place. For comfort relief, then there is a lane and footpath for a short walk.
The Traveller's Rest is only a short walk from the site, warm and welcoming, has a special area where you can take your dog, so you can have a drink and a meal, which I recommend.
Castleton is a really nice village to visit. There is a co-op not too far for supplies.
The site itself: The cafe was closed during the stay, toilet and shower blocks are separate, showers had been updated, it takes about 3 cycles for hot water to come through, they are press button. The lights are on sensors, need to open the shower door in order for them to come on. Facilities seem to be cleaned once a day, which during our stay was not adequate, the floors were constantly muddy, mop and bucket left in the shower block would help. They do have a soap dispenser, paper towels.
In the toilets a bar of soap and plenty of toilet paper.
There is only 2 undercover sinks for dish washing, which were at times left in a disgusting state.
There is only one tap for drinking water for the whole site, unfortunately a caravanner used this point to empty his grey water tank, instead off the proper grey water tap, which is easily missed, but is signed.
Freezer for icepacks is located in the laundry room, free to use, dryer and washing machine takes tokens,
Which you get from the farmhouse.
Would I go again, possibly for the location,

I went away with friends to this site for 5 nights in a folding camper. The tent field was closed as it was too wet so was on the caravan side. The site seemed to comprise mainly of seasonal caravans judging by the stuff outside and the long grass around them. The site is set in a lovely area and really can't argue with the price as it was less than £10. 00 a night. The site does have a toilet block and a separate shower block. The facilities are very basic but reasonable clean. Don't think I would like to use them in the winter though as they didn't seem heated. The Travellers Rest pub is just down the road which is worth a trip. Also Ladybower and the Derwent Dam are close by and good for walking around. Whilst I was there a few members of the group had a run in with the site owners son. Although I didn't witness this I believe he was quite rude and used foul language which was inappropriate. Other than that I enjoyed my stay. Site is cheap and cheerful. You get what you pay for. If you have children there is nothing on site so bear this in mind if travelling as a family.
