We had a lovely stay at this site. The weather was good too, it is close to all amenities, Netley Abbey, the shore line for a walk, local shops. The site will be really good when finished.

The only problem we had was the showers, need proper showers. The rest of the new block was excellent, spacial and clean. We had no noise problems with being close to the road. A relaxed place to be.

That is the only reason we would not go back to this site.

A one night stay the week after I was here and felt I should write to say the new toilet block is open and a very high standard, warm air hand dryers which I love, toilets and showers and private basins, huge washing up and washing room which will be excellent even when really busy and underfloor heating! Luxury.

I had a very happy 4 week stay here. Stella was very friendly and helpful. The site is flat and plots are well spaced out, it looks lovely when you drive in, it is beautifully kept regarding mowing and tidiness and the electric posts stay lit up over night so you are not flailing around blindly if you return after dark.

It is extremely conveniently placed for an all night Tesco and for Southampton itself ( Mayflower theatre 15 mins drive away )
The portable shower and loo vans are not posh, but are split into Men/Women sides which is good and they are functional, and at this time of year there was no queueing for the facilities. There did seem to be a wash basin outside for dishes, but I did mine in my van.

Being more familiar with Caravan Club and Camping and Caravan Club sites the fees were a bit more than I was expecting, but when the toilet / shower block is completed it will be an absolutely wonderful site.

At present there is nothing to stop anybody driving on or off the site, no closed gates, I think this would be a welcome addition and give visitors peace of mind.

I will definitely return to this site when I next need to be in Southampton and meanwhile take away happy memories of my stay.

The site at this moment in time is ideal for tourers / motorhomes that have their own facilities on board like we had. If you are a camper you will find the toilet / shower facilities very basic. I would add although basic I found them to be clean. Those who have been to the site will see the owners are investing money in building a new toilet / shower block but these improvements take time and money but once complete will make this site even better than it already is.

The site itself is very good, the pitchs are level and very large the biggest I have been to in this country, each pitch is serviced by water and drainage. The area is well lit and for a safty note there are fire hoses ideally placed.

The site is ideally placed to visit local places of intrest.

The owners especially Stella cannot be more helpful a local lady who knows the area well.

If you are caravanner or motorhome owner I would highly recommend this site, if you a camper unless you like basic facilities I would look for a bigger site and pay double for the cost of your pitch!

Thanks Stella and your husband for an enjoyable weekend. Good luck with completing the new ammenities block. As Arnie said 'WE WILL BE BACK'

We chose to stay in our tent as we were only away for a short break and oh what a mistake, how I wished we had taken our caravan.

Firstly the noise from the unclassified 'country road' was constant all day right through into quite late evening, it seems Grange Rd is a rat run off the main A3025 into Netley. Added to the road is the noise from incoming and outbound air traffic from nearby Southampton airport as the site lies directly under the flightpath.

Secondly the facilities were grubby, cold and portacabins. There are three steep wooden steps up to the toilets (signposted 'slippy when wet') not good for someone with joint or mobility probs. Once inside someone has attempted to cheer up the ladies by placing a bunch of dirty and faded artificial flowers in a chipped vase on top of the boarded up gent's urinal stalls. The cubicals are tiny and the 2 washbasins are barely big enough to wash you hands in. The showers were just as grim plus mouldy curtains and a draughty open communal area for getting undressed and drying off, signs warns that having shower on high would trip of electricity so I tried to shower on low or med. Tried twice but gave up as water cold on both attempts and resorted to a wash with baby wipes in the tent.

The washing up area is one sink unit with a cold tap outside on a half completed bit of decking

With regards to the building of new facilities, we spoke to a caravanner who uses this site regularly for a one night ferry stop and he told us that the work has been going on for some two years as it is the owners family who are doing the work in their free time

The size of the pitches are generous, the site is level and it's convenient for both Southampton and Portsmouth and that is all there is on a positive note. As other reviewers have said, the site is OK for those in caravans and motorhomes with their own facilities and double glazed windows to cut out the road noise.

The prices are very high for what you get in return. We would have moved on but there were no other sites nearby that had vacancies so we bought ear plugs, bumper boxes of baby wipes and disposable plates or ate out at the excellent Harvester a few miles up the road. There is also a huge 24hr Tesco Extra store a short drive away and a local bus into Southampton stops at the end of the road.

We stayed here for 2 nights and I must admit, that until the new shower / toilet block is up and running, I would not go back. The showers and toilets are portacabins. There are only 2 showers that were working in the womens and they are not proper shower cubicles. It is just a shower with a curtain across it, with nowhere private to get undressed or put your things.
The toilets seemed to be clean but were very small cubicles. There is also no shop on site either. I also have to agree with another reviewer on here about the price, £16 a night is very expensive especially when the facilities are extremely basic.

Now the good points were the pitches were flat and the owners were friendly. The location was good, very close to Southampton.

I cannot believe that the last reviewer 'can't fault' this campsite, or that the one before that considered the facilities 'perfectly acceptable'.

The facilities are diabolical.

It is true, as pointed out by other reviewers, that new facilities are under construction. But it is now over a year since this was first reported, and they are still far from finished.

But you are still expected to pay high prices - as if they were finished.

The site itself is actually good, and it's a good location. But the existing washing, toilet and washing up facilities are nowhere near good enough.

The Portakabin toilets are basic to say the least. The two washbasins were each the size and shape of a bicycle saddle and they were placed right next to each other, so only one could be used anyway.

The showers were again basic, with no privacy and very little space and a sign warned against using them on a 'High' setting because it would 'trip the electricity'.

Washing up facilities consisted of a single free standing sink, open to the elements, and with a single (cold) tap.

It was therefore necessary to fill up a washing up bowl (very slowly) from the aforementioned tiny basins.

Add to this the fact that the site is charging high rates (four of us stayed in an eight-man tent and paid £27 per night) and the overall conclusion is a poor site charging premium prices.

When (if) the new toilet block is finished, then this will be a site worth considering.

But, until you are sure that that is the case, I would avoid using this site unless you are in a caravan with full self-sufficient facilities.

We stayed at this site for a long weekend break from Friday until Wednesday and I have to be honest I cant fault it.

Having read the reviews we were a little concerned but particularly wanted to stay in this area as we were visiting family so took the risk, and were very happy we did so.

The site is run by a husband and wife team who couldn't have been more helpful if they tried and were on hand to help with any queries.

The area is great as it has local parks, pubs and southampton city centre is ten minutes away. If walking you do have to walk down and initial part of road but this didn't cause any problem.

The land is as flat as you could get and the pitches are a great size. We pitched a 6 man with plenty of space.

The showers were clean and very adequate as were the toilets. I never saw any signs of mould or uncleanliness. The owner seemed to be in there cleaning ample number of times a day.

The owners are massively improving the site by adding a large shower block, washing facilities and toilets - once this is done you wouldn't be able to give a high enough review for the site.

We will stay there plenty more time due to visiting family and look forward to the next time in August.

We stayed here with our kids for the weekend 5th June. A very well kempt, spacious site. The plots are a good size and allow a private space for the family to gather in. There are temporary showers / toilets which were clean and perfectly acceptable given the fact shower and Laundry amenities are in the process of being built. There is a good dog walking field.

We found the site to be quiet and within easy reach of Southampton. The coast is nearby and there a a lovely country park. We ate at the local pub on Grange Road which was less than a mile away. They had a good offer on meals ie two for the price of one! There was also another pub with a larger kids play area on Portsmouth Road. We enjoyed a visit to the Netley Abbey Ruins - the kids enjoyed climbing on the walls. We also did a day trip to Marwell Zoo which is near to Winchester - well worth a day trip.

Overall a good site. This was helped by the fact the owners are friendly and welcoming and go out of their way to make your stay a pleasant one. We look foward to returning in the summer : )

First I will list the good points.

If you have caravan or motorhome with its on washing and toilet / shower facilities then this is a great site with good hook up points with a light and water in one unit. The pitches in the main field are large, level and well spaced with good well lit fire points.

This site is well located as it is near to a very large tesco (5 Mins) and a M&S / Sainsburys (10Mins). 1 pub 10 minute walk. Ideal as a stopover before using the red funnel isle of wight ferry.

Now the BAD points.

If like us you do not have your own facilities the ones on site are an absolute disgrace. 2 urinals and 2 w/cs for the gents and 3 w/cs for the ladies both in the same portaloo building. The showers were in another shared portaloo type building 2 for the men and 3 for women. The showers could not be used on the high setting as it tripped the electric. The second of the 2 male showers was on cold and the whole block had damp everywhere with mildew on the ceilings and the curtains urgh!.

There is no dishwashing facilities just a washing up bowl outside the showers with a bucket to put the dirty water in. You had to use the sink in the shower to get the water to wash up with.

Also tents were in the same field as the showers which was full of holes so it made it fun getting about in the tent.I do not think that this is worth the £16 per night 3 night minimum charge.

When the actual toilet shower block is finished it would be worth the money until then I would recommend this site for caravans and motorhomes only.
