We had a very pleasant stay at this caravan site.  The owners were very pleasant and helpful.  We were made very welcome.  The site is well maintained and clean.  The shop is well stocked and pleasant.  The only down is the shower block although  very clean they are in need of refurbishing. We  will visit this site again. This site is within walking distance of Stratford on Avon.

Completely baffled at some of the negative feedback this site has received, my wife, five month old daughter and I have just spent four nights at Dodwell's and have had a most enjoyable time.

I admit that the toilet / shower block is on the old side but, it was always clean and perfectly usable. We do have an onboard shower that we will use if the facilities are not up to standard, it remained unused! There is nothing wrong with the block that cannot be sorted with a lick of paint.
Was slightly confused at the claim made by another reviewer that the block was always closed at the busiest time when people were wanting to wash up after breakfast - the block closes between 11 and 12 and the dish washing facilities were always available. There are also plenty of signs advising people of the times that the block is unavailable.
The shop is without doubt one of the best I have ever come across (again this is at odds with other peoples claims). It had everything you could possibly need ranging from, groceries, drinks of all types, frozen foods, toys, books, free magazines, caravan chemicals etc. The shop is not open all day by any means, however we were able to get whatever we wanted when it was closed by simply asking the site owner.

The site was busy during our stay, but we did not feel cramped at all and there were 'vans on either side of us. In fact we had so much room that on one day we even had a second car next to our awning and still had the space to do a barbecue!
There are signs stating that children should not play on the site and there is a field set aside for this purpose (this is also the dog walking field and it is close to a main road so make sure you supervise them and please clean up after your pet). That said, there were plenty of children playing on the site and it did not cause any problems, again, everyone is on their holiday - even the kids, so let them enjoy it.  We were especially lucky with the weather during our stay and on the day of departure we enquired if it may be possible to remain a little longer to enjoy the day. "No problem, leave whenever you are ready" we were told. No doubt it may be slightly different on a Friday when more people are arriving but found this laid back attitude refreshing. Another reviewer also complained about late arrivals, surely this is the fault of those arriving late not the wardens. However, instead of complaining about it I found it much more helpful to offer a torch and a helping hand in order for them to pitch quicker and thus get everyone settled sooner! This is also a very good way to make new friends on site (and get invited to barbecues later!) In short, this is not a luxury site but then it is one of the cheaper ones in the area.

The facilities are slightly older but are perfectly serviceable and clean. The shop is very well stocked and you can obtain what you need even when it is closed (except alcohol outside of licensing hours). The park staff (owners and wardens) are very laid back and helpful. The only criticism I would have is that there are not play areas for children but surely you are not intending on just sitting on the site the whole time?! Take them out and entertain them yourselves, there is plenty to do in Stratford and Warwick. A most enjoyable time, am quite certain we will return.

Spent a weekend here, cramped, noisy site.  Pitches within a couple of feet from each other, heaven forbid a fire breaks out. Visitors allowed on and off site at all hours and we were disturbed both nights from 11pm to 2am by taxis pulling onto site and partys returning home.  Shop badly stocked, but ok if you want pot noodle or long life milk.
Toilet block closed each day for an hour for cleaning, usually at the busiest time when you need to scrub up after breakfast.  Very disappointed, not a cheap site and feel site owner really cramming us in to maximise profits.  The best behaved residents were the children! Well done kids.

What a great site! The shower blocks are old but were always clean and tidy with plenty of hot water.
The shop is one of the best stocked shops that we have seen and the staff are always very friendly.
There is a large field at the entrance to the site for ball games although this is the dog walking field too.

The only negatives are the pitches are very close together and the children are not allowed to play ball games on the site.

Friendly staff. Pitches not very level. 2005/06 Big sites guide stated Laundry, but when i enquired about this was told it was knocked down a couple of years ago as a tree went through its roof - so no Laundry. Some of the hookup boxes didnt work so had to hookup on one not adjacent to our caravan. Bus stop just outside handy for Stratford upon Avon. No where for children to play. Toilets/showers very clean but corridor very narrow. One review mentions having taped the hairdryer in the Ladies - that tape is still there. Shop only open from 8am to 8.30am in October so didnt use it.

Have just returned from a 2 night stay at Dodwell Park. There were 5 adults and 2 children in our party occupying 2 large tents and a gazebo. On booking we were told that the pitches were large and we would have ample room. On arrival at the pitch we were disappointed at how close and cramped we were and had to strategically pitch the tents to fit them on, surely a fire hazard ? There are no amenities for children and they are not permitted to play ball games near the tents but being so cramped you can see why. There is a large dog walking / playing field at the entrance to the site but smaller children would have to be accompanied by an adult as its very close to a busy main road. The toilet block was very clean but could do with updating. The shop was ok if you only wanted bare essentials as not much choice. There is a very good bus service into Stratford which picks up every hour from the site entrance. On the whole, a very friendly site but not one for us.

The only thing that I can give as a positive remark is that it was lovely and quiet, and the flower beds where lovely.

On the negative side I have plenty, and I will describe and address each in turn.

1)The toilets and show block was AWFUL! You walk in and the first thing you are confronted with it cracked and broken floor tiles, the three end shower cubicles are small, in-fact they must have been toilets that have been converted as they are exactly the same size. The tiles and grouting in said showers where filthy with mould and soap scum, and they smelt awful. There was four hooks in the cubicle, sadly they were they type that you use for hanging coats on, and your towel and clothes just slip off, onto a wet floor. The shower trough is one large trough between all three cubicles, although each has it's own drain due to the sloping floor if your in the middle cubicle (which I was on one day) the dirty water from the cubicles on either side drains into yours. I was horrified on one day when I looked down and realised that the person in the shower beside me had peed in the shower and that it was all around my feet! The hair dryer in the ladies, was broken, the hose was hanging there, and on the second morning I took my brown parcel tape and re-attached it to the hairdryer. And was then told by another camper that it had been like that the whole 10 days she had been there. The tapes, and sink was awful, there was a dirty black scum build up around the base of the tapes. My OH told me that the chair still had toothpaste on the seat on the last day, that had been there since our first. There was no heating and windows were constantly wide open, this was no doubt to conteract the smell. The strip lighting was filled to 3cm with dead moths and flies, there was cobwebs everywhere. I have never been in a shower, where I have felt dirtier coming out than I did going in

2) The tent pitches where all on the slope, the flat area saved for caravans. So we spent the whole time we were there rolling off our beds, everything was unstable, cooking area, tables, chairs.

3) The children weren't even allowed to hit a shuttle cock between them, (and I'd like to mention here we always take camp site friendly toys etc) even though there wasn't a tent or anything else near use for at least 50 or more yards. Then much to our amazement, a group of adults set up a badmington net and all joined in a rather rowdy game. The next day after dinner 6pm, when we got out the Swing ball, again no neighbours within 50 yards or so the children came in to tell us they had been told off that they weren't allowed to play ball games.

4) We were told off for driving to fast, which we couldn't work out as we were only doing 5 miles an hour, and we had only just arrived. Then the next morning we were woken up to a man driving a ride on mower at speed.

All in all, I would only recommend this site if you have a caravan with your own toilet & bathroom, and you don't have children! I didn't enjoy my stay here!

Having just spent a weekend at this site I felt the need to tell you what a lovely experience it was. The site is small and only 2 miles outside Stratford. The owners were extremely helpful and friendly. The shower and toilet block were very clean and had a free hair-drier. Good facilities all round. Although we didn't use the shop, the owner let us re-freeze our ice packs for a very small charge. The only downside to this site is that it gets very full so I would recommend that you get there early. We will definitely be using the site again and have already recommended it family and friends.

Found Dodwell park using the online directions which were very good. The park was quiet when we arrived meaning selection of pitch. We ended up near the shower / toilet block at the end of the field. This is a mistake for anyone with young children as other kids had a tendency to hang around there till the small hours shouting and banging the doors. (That was when they werent tripping over our awning guy ropes!)
That aside though, this is a very clean and well run site. The managers cannot do enough to help. They assist with getting you on your pitch and come round to make sure everything is okay. The toilets/showers whilst a little old were clean and provided hot water at any time of day or night. With Stratford on your doorstep it is a well situated site that I would heartily recommend to anyone looking for a clean well run site.

Having just spent the weekend (23-26 June) at Dodwell Park, which is well located near Stratford and it's many amenities including a bus stop directly outside the site, we felt that we should let everyone know what a lovely, well maintained site Dodwell is, the wardens are very friendly, they even offered to open the shop for us, though it had closed earlier, the shop itself is stocked with everything you've left at home and is reasonably priced, you're even asked if you would like to order the morning papers, the toilets and showers are regularly cleaned and stocked and there's also a wall mounted hairdryer. What more could you ask? We well and truly recommend this site, and will definitely be staying there again
