Found Dodwell park using the online directions which were very good. The park was quiet when we arrived meaning selection of pitch. We ended up near the shower / toilet block at the end of the field. This is a mistake for anyone with young children as other kids had a tendency to hang around there till the small hours shouting and banging the doors. (That was when they werent tripping over our awning guy ropes!)
That aside though, this is a very clean and well run site. The managers cannot do enough to help. They assist with getting you on your pitch and come round to make sure everything is okay. The toilets/showers whilst a little old were clean and provided hot water at any time of day or night. With Stratford on your doorstep it is a well situated site that I would heartily recommend to anyone looking for a clean well run site.

Having just spent the weekend (23-26 June) at Dodwell Park, which is well located near Stratford and it's many amenities including a bus stop directly outside the site, we felt that we should let everyone know what a lovely, well maintained site Dodwell is, the wardens are very friendly, they even offered to open the shop for us, though it had closed earlier, the shop itself is stocked with everything you've left at home and is reasonably priced, you're even asked if you would like to order the morning papers, the toilets and showers are regularly cleaned and stocked and there's also a wall mounted hairdryer. What more could you ask? We well and truly recommend this site, and will definitely be staying there again

Weren't very impressed with this site as we phoned and booked a hardstanding pitch and when we got there they hadn't got one! We would have booked elsewhere if we had known, especially as the grass as stated before on this site was like a quagmire. We don't have a 4x4 and as it had been raining we knew that grass wasn't an option for us.
Anyway, we stayed two nights, mudded to the hilt, filthy car, filthy caravan, dogs, shoes etc.

The only drinking water tap we could see was hidden behind someones caravan, which seemed intrusive when you had to fill the aquaroll.

On leaving we knew we would have a problem so we reversed our car as near to our van as possible without putting the front wheels onto the mud. We then tried to pull the caravan to hitch up, luckily a fellow camper saw our struggle and gave us a hand.

This is a small site which leads off a main road, which did not cause any problem with traffic noise. The owners were very friendly and advised that we could go anywhere we wanted. There are a few hard standing pitches which were all taken and the rest are on grass mainly with electric hook up. Our first major problem was getting our car and caravan stuck in the mud as the grass was so sticky and churned up - luckily three kind men helped my partner and I push the car and caravan out. Our shoes were caked in mud which wasn't great when getting into the caravan - we had to keep taking our shoes off in a box just inside the door and we carried the dogs to the caravan to avoid making things worse and getting them mucky too.

There is an adequate number of showers and toilets for this site, but they are a bit dated with cobwebs on the ceiling and old shower curtains. It was difficult keeping your feet clean after a shower when the floor was so dirty from peoples shoes (as above). The showers are free and there was plenty of hot water - without having to keep pressing a button to keep the water flowing. There is a washing up area, waste/chemical disposal and drinking water (which is situated behind one of the hard standing pitches near the toilet/shower block - which was difficult to find at first).

I think this site would be good for the spring or summer - especially when it's not wet as the grass pitches are not drained and appear unsuitable for camping on. Unfortunately, when we left we had the same problem in getting the caravan out of a hole in the ground, but unfortunately this time we had to struggle by ourselves with an audience watching from the comfort of their caravan!

Small site - friendly owner. Only main problem is that the water table for that area is rather high and this meant a muddy pitch even on the slope! When we arrived, we were put on a roped-off area that had been deemed to muddy for the vans that arrived before us. And so were the next 8 vans to arrive after us.

Didn't use the shop as it always appeared closed but, looking through the window, it did seem adequatly stocked.

Toilets and showers, including ripped curtains in 2 out of the three stalls, although small, were kept clean and there is some hardstanding available. Washing up area was clean and plenty of free hot water.

Excellent dog walking field next door to site. About 10 min drive to centre of Stratford.

We visited this site with our two children and found it to be a well run, friendly site. We were greeted and shown where we could pitch our tent. The site was about at full capacity, but it still seemed quiet. All dogs (including our own) were on leads at all times (as instructed) and we never witnessed any irresponsible dog owners or noisy ones. I witnessed the toilets being cleaned every day and are up to a good standard for a camp site. The playing field is next to the site, but not in view as one reviewer mentioned, but as reponsible parents we walked the 2 minutes it takes to get there and played ball games as a family. The staff are very helpful and approachable and i would recommend this site to anyone looking for abit of peace, but close enough to Stratford

Lovely quiet campsite, toilets and showers were very clean. The owners were very accomodating and friendly. Surrounding areas were quiet even though it was near a main road it was just a quiet hum that you could barely hear. Luckily the owner allowed us a pint of milk from his shop as we arrived after 8.

I would definately go again

Although we regularly go camping in the area, this was the first time my wife and I had used this campsite. I had opted for a service pitch. However, things got off to a bad start. Despite only having a tent and a car (a 7 seater MPV), which is significantly smaller than a Ford Mondeo, I was told by the warden that my car was a van. That meant my tent was an awning and I have to pay another £3 on top of the £26 already paid. In the end for my tent and car, I had to pay the same as the people opposite with a much larger estate car, 30 foot double axle caravan and full length awning, so not a good start.

The camp site itself was small, but clean, fairly flat with some tree cover.

As mentioned in other reviews, there was some road noise as the national speed limit and open country road starts just near the site so cars and motorbikes tend to "boot it".

The toilet block was clean, but the showers were the smallest I've seen. There wasn't really any space to stand out of the shower basin to get dry.

The shop seemed well stocked, but opened at strange times eg. Only early Saturday and Sunday morning.

There didn't appear to be a noise policy either ie. Noisy dogs seemed to be allowed.

We didn't walk into Stratford as it was a couple of miles over two very steep hills.

Hubby and I stayed at Dodwell Park for the last weekend of the NEC Caravan and Outdoor Leisure Show. We arrived in the dark at 9.30pm and couldn't find the hardstanding pitches, so had to ring the bell. The warden, who was very friendly and helpful came out to show us where the pitches were, and told us to get settled and not to worry about paying until the morning, which I felt was very trusting. Despite being February, there were only two pitches available, and both of these were very small and barely wide enough for our hired 24ft 6in motorhome. Most of them seemed to be taken up with touring caravans that looked like they were there permanently and had rather spread out. We had no room to put our awning out had we wanted to, and were 'greeted' by the owner of the neighbouring caravan telling us how awful and noisy she thought the park was (didn't exactly inspire us with confidence). We heard no noise (not even the traffic) during our stay, and really enjoyed staying there, so took what she said with a pinch of salt.
Personally I didn't visit the showers or site toilets, but Hubby said they were ok although rather cold. We were right next to the electric hook up (although the fuse board did blow for that area of the site and we had to trail our cable across the road to one of the roped off grass pitches). Also, were right next to the water, so couldn't have been more convenient.
We didn't need our awning so weren't too worried about that, although had it been summer I think I would have been rather miffed at not being able to put it out on the small pitch. We did have a friend staying one night with us, plus his car, but were not charged extra for either.
On the whole, we liked it and would probably go back if we could have a better pitch than this time. Rating 7/10

 July 2004
We visited the first weekend of the school holidays, and found the site to be clean and the wardens helpful.

We may have just been unlucky to have a family arrive after 11pm and start pitching a very large tent right next to us and proceed to make a lot of noise into the small hours. However, the site has no noise policy - I would suggest that one should be introduced and enforced.

And, if you are awake in the small hours, the road noise which is a background hum during the day gets very annoying.

The toilets were clean and the number of toilets and showers adequate, but with only two small basins and with being very narrow it got congested in there with a very small number of people.
