May 2005 Family Holiday over the Whit Week at the end of May/start of June.
The site was busy over the weekend, but not too noisy, the showers / toilets were clean, some queueing in the morning - a good excuse for a longer lie-in.
Always site staff available, friendly and helpful.
Once the weekend crowd had gone the site was quieter and no queues.
A great site with a nice clean beach next door.

June 2005 We stayed here at the end of June. Both thought it was excellent value for money and a lovely site. We were in the field nearest the shop and had lovely views of the beach and sea, even when tents were pitched in front of us. It was relatively quiet and so the showers and loos weren't over burdened.
Apart from the horrendous downpour we had on the second night which made lots of campers, us included, give up and go home, it was a great break.

July 2005 Carreglwyd is a beautifully clean and tidy campsite in a superb coastal location. We were delayed, and then got lost, and arrived after 10.30pm but the owners were helpfulness and politeness personified.
The hook-up field is tiered which gives flatter pitches and good seaviews but perhaps a bit crowded when the site was full. I imagine it could be quite windy under certain wind directions and this was born out by banks on the seaward side of the site. The toilet blocks were modern and generally clean and tidy.
Site security is good with an entrance barrier personally controlled from the adjacent reception.
We were there for a long weekend and many people left on the Sunday. The tent field was almost empty by Sunday teatime The small site shop sells a wide variety of food, souveneirs and beach equipment
The site is located adjacent, 5 minutes walk, to a scenic blue-flag beach, with lifeguards in attendance which would be ideal for families. Dogs are banned from the beach during the summer months, though they are allowed on the site on leads.
There are 2 fish and chip shops and shops selling beach and water sports equipment near to the beach. There was also, a pub and tiny post office in the village. It would be best to take food with you as food shopping is limited to the camp shop and post office.
The other beaches and sights of the beautiful Gower peninsula are within easy driving distance. Swansea is a pleasant modern city which can be reached by car or a local bus service which stops near the site entrance.
The 18 mile drive down from Swansea is on roads which have some narrow stretches and the last part through the village is particularly narrow and needs to be approached with care.
At £20.00/night for 2 adults, caravan and electricity it was quite expensive but it does have an outstanding coastal location.

June 2005 The position of this site is superb - right on beach - sandy patrolled family beach and also more interesting rocky and shingle areas where dogs are allowed even in summer. Wonderful walks and access to a fish and chip shop which if weather is iffy is useful!
There are 4/5 fields and the one with hook ups is the least pleasant and most cramped I suspect except when very busy. The loos and showers are in 2 blocks in fields 2 and 3 and at top of a slope but hot showers are free.
You need to take loo roll because they have stopped providing it due to misuse by some inconsiderate visitors. We were there at the end of half term and the weather was variable so there was lots of space - at peak weekends I imagine arriving on the Thursday would be a better bet if possible.
Booking not possible except for hook ups. A lovely site in a super position - we will be going back - and there were over 30 of us!!

May 2005 Stayed here over the bank holiday weekend. First of all the price, £16 a night for a dome tent! You had to pay for the minimum 3 nights. No marked pitches and some people were jammed in like sardines!
The facilities - cold showers, no toilet paper and the toilet blocks were always disgusting.
No ice pack service - you had to puy ice cubes from the shop.
Some of the people running the campsite were rude and unwelcoming. Although others were pleasant and friendly.
Port Eynon is lovely and the campsite is in such a good location, which I suppose is why they get away with providing so little on site. There are 2 chip shops, one really nice pub the Smugglers Haunt, there is also another pub further down the coast.
If the campsite was better run and facilities improved, I wouldn't hesitate in going back because of the fab location. But until this happens we'll be gving it a wide berth!

August 2004 I really love this camp site because it is so close to the beach and if you pitch in the fourth field, the view is wonderful!! We arrived on a Saturday and it was slightly chaotic as there are no pitch markings so we had to find a decent space and it was pretty packed! The full sign went up soon after and despite the number of people packed in, it was surprisingly quiet at night. Went for a walk along the beach on Sunday and when we came back the site had half emptied. It seemed that a lot of people from Swansea came down for a weekend camp and so packed up to go home Sunday afternoon! The toilet blocks are fine - the one in the first field is more modern but the second one was adequate. The fourth field offers the fab views but is a long way from the toilet block...! Shop is adequate and the people ok if not a little hassled by the number of campers. Can walk to the pub and fish and chip shop very easily and have a bonfire on the beach which is fun. Great place, will be going back!!!!

June 2004 First time I'd been back to this site as a family man. Pleasantly surprised. Real family site - dogs allowed on leads.
The showers were fine in both blocks. Some sloping pitches, but also plenty of flat ground.
Very close to beach and shops. Regular security patrols and nice weather. Will return soon.

May 2004 Just what we wanted. Clean site, great veiws, staff friendly and welcoming to the children. It was obviously a quiet weekend because we found the site peaceful and well run. Facilities were clean and the shop provided everthing we had forgotten. We would return.

September 2003 After years of visiting another camping site in Port Eynon I was disapointed when new management took over and my buisness was turned away, similarly to other regualr visitors too. I have been staying in Port Eynon whilst visiting the Gower for 20 years now and thought I'd try the campsite at the bottom by the beach (Carreglwyd). I loved it, why I hadn't been down there earlier I don't know. Yes the facilities are a little minimal to some campsites but what do you want when you go camping? The shop supplied torches, batteries, fridges and freezers full of food, books, magazines, postcards, windbreaks, t-shirts all sorts of things. The shower block was fantastic, always clean and tidy with hot water, and the showers were free of charge. The beach which is lifeguarded and has excellent boat access, is right on the doorstep of the campsite, there are two fish and chip shops and a beach shop right next to the campsite which also sell sandwiches, drinks, ice-cream etc and beach supplies ofcourse. The local pub 'The Ship Inn' is family and dog friendly though dogs aren't allowed inside and of a reasonable price. There's plenty to see and do if you want to go out for the day around the gower and Swansea is only approx a 30 minute drive away or you could get the bus which runs regularly from the village.
On a whole I love it down in Port Eynon and Carreglwyd is a warm friendly campsite with excellent staff who in my experience will do anything they can to help you. I definately give it 10 out of 10 for my visit and can't wait for the warmer weather to get back down there in my tent.

August 2003 Can agree with the last review of this site. Visited twice in August and found that all shower blocks were open, free and well maintained. Would recommend using shower block nearest shop as is higher standard. Still no plugs in sink but prepared campers have half a tennis ball with them for this eventuality (perhaps you should get a guest house if this is a problem !). Yes the shop has only the bare essentials, but there is a Spar type shop only 1.5 miles away if you have forgotten to bring something, or drank all your beer. Site is now patrolled regularly by a large gentleman on a quad bike who ensures pets are under control, there are no real fires or excessively noisy people so beware. Also seems to be vetting entrants by having a separate man on the gate at the entrance to the site. The Ship Inn is your best bet for a good value meal and they do cashback if paying by debit card. Go early as it gets very busy. Finally, this site is situated a stones throw from the beach, with beatiful views across the bay and has walks across the coast path which are second to none with superb fishing. What more do you want? Only downside is that there isn't much to do around the area if the weather is poor.
