 We stayed here for a week in the late May bank holiday, booked after a few reviews and a look at the website but not really knowing what to expect.
As others have said, there is a choice between levelled pitches holding up to 8 units and open fields. Groups are supported and the site indicates there a kennels available if your pet needs somewhere to stay while you're off doing activities.
We were in the older tiered area on electric hookup which worked perfectly all week. The pitch was a level small field approx 100m square with three electric hookups though other tents did join later in the week. The middle area is kept free for children to play or to drift into with your chairs following the sun.
The toilet block and showers are a little dated but are clean with ample free hot water for showers or washing up. There is a nominal 20p charge for a bath full of hot water in the family room which is great for children but too much water and too slow for babies so we filled a bucket with hot water and used a 'Really Useful' 18Lt container as a makeshift baby bath.
Washing machines are a little expensive at £4 however drying is relatively cheap at £1 for 30 mins which will dry a reasonable load in the industrial driers and 40p is sufficient to dry a few damp ex-shower towels on those drizzly days which occur.
Customer service was great, friendly wardens, lots of people about but not intrusive.
As ever, with a child focused site, you have to expect some noise and as we were located near to a tarmac roadway there were constantly children there on scooters which were not in other areas. This didn't impact us significantly though as we're all easy sleepers.
The killer feature is the attached theme park which is a good size and caters for most ages. There is little for a baby to do other than watch, however once they reach 90cm and especially at 110cm a lot more rides become available.
Our baby was occupied mostly by the continuously changing scenery.
There are a number of key rides which are fun even for adults and all are well staffed. However there are also lots of climbing towers and slides, zip wires etc outdoors with a couple of big 'wacky warehouse' style indoors areas. While these are mostly probably suited to pre-teens, there seems to be lots to do everywhere on the site and it took us about 4 days before we had covered it all.
For balance there are a number of areas that could use some redecoration and the windows cleaning, especially in the animal areas which don't really seem to be loved with the exception of the super cute meerkats.
Having visited the 'World of Country Life' with it's ample petting opportunities it feels like Woodlands is really missing out on good interactive facilities no doubt due to over zealous risk assessment. I'd encourage them to visit WOCL and see just how much properly managed open access and interaction to animals can add. Either make it into a feature or remove it, currently it feels like it's in limbo not really knowing what it wants to be.
Also be aware that the theme park is in the base of a valley and the site is next to it, up a hill. There will be a lot of walking, an nearly all of that walking up or down a hill. I swear I climbed the equivalent of Everest 3 times in the week.
The site shop is a little skinny on supplies, plenty of camping gear but not much that doesn't need to be barbecued. Not an issue though as the nearest supermarket is 3 miles away down a good road with cash machines and petrol so supplies are plentiful.
That said we had a fantastic time and are already planning to revisit next year, although we really should investigate the surrounding areas a little more rather than indulging the little ones in the park.

Nice pitch location just below the wash facilities. Electric kept tripping out, when checked, 6 out of 6 pitches had electrical problems. Paid for an extra car and was told it couldn't stay on the pitch, it had to go in the main car park, when we checked the car the following day, it had been bumped. The reception staff were not helpful and were very quick to return the money we had paid for the cars stay. The theme park is looking very tired and dirty, many animal pens were empty. Toilet facilities whilst clean are very dated. The whole place could do with a major facelift.

Very large site but as is split into areas you never feel that. Spacious pitches with fabulous washing facilities and showers. There are even separate family shower rooms. Wardens very visible which is nice, Very friendly too. The theme park is a fair walk from the campsite and uphill on the return, so those with very small kids a buggy is useful. The pizza parlour was pricey but decent albeit small portion sizes. The site shop is also pricey but ok for last minute bits. Local area is lovely, particularly Blackpool sands. Which is also dog-free hence very clean and safe. Dartmouth castle is spectacular and well worth a trip.

If you’re looking for a family friendly, well-located and well run campsite in the beautiful South Devon countryside then Woodlands is a great choice.
It’s a huge site so there was space even on a sunny week in the middle of the summer holidays. The size could have made it feel overwhelming, but a well thought out layout, and what appeared to be a careful policy of allocating pitches, meant that it felt surprisingly intimate.
The big selling point is the access to Woodlands Theme Park. Our grandchildren (aged between 3 and 12) loved it and didn’t really want to do anything else, although we managed to tempt them away to the beach a few times, and did one lovely walk on Dartmoor. I don’t know how well the park would suit older teenagers, but it has great facilities for most ages. It’s a little bit dated in places, but has a very friendly feel. There is plenty to do and kept our lot occupied for hours.
If you can drag yourself away, it’s a wonderful area with beautiful countryside. It’s only about 15 mins drive down to Slapton Sands which is a long beach with three car parks (the middle one has the most space and is the best place for swimming as it has lifeguards). Don’t miss fish and chips at the Start Bay Inn – declared as the highlight of the holiday.
Totnes and Dartmouth are both lovely towns to visit, and it is worth driving up to Dartmoor if you have the chance. There are lots of other things to do which we didn’t manage to fit in.
The campsite itself has several distinct areas –I think it’s a shame these aren’t explained more clearly on the website, but it’s also not clear how you get allocated to an area and whether there is any choice.
The Hillcrest area contains a number of individual paddocks, all different shapes and sizes but with between six and ten pitches, some with small trees that gave the feel that the campers were in an orchard. It is mainly level grass with some hard-standing. I thought it looked the most attractive and tranquil part of the site.
Falcon View comprises a number of eight-pitch paddocks. All the pitches are hardstanding but have groundsheets provided for tents. Personally I thought these were the least attractive as they felt a bit regimented, but it’s a matter of taste.
Well Park is a large area but as it’s divided up by hedges you feel as if you’re on a smaller site. The pitches here are more flexible – there are some big spaces which lend themselves to larger family groups. Some but not all have EHU. We were in the top right hand corner and had lovely views over the countryside. The only down-side is that all the pitches have a bit of a slope – some barely noticeable but others quite marked. Although we were there at a very busy time, quite a lot of pitches were left empty so there was enough grass for children to play games and run around. The wardens tell you where to pitch and although the pitches aren’t marked there was plenty of room so it didn’t feel overcrowded.
At the top of the park, Upper Well Park and Stonefield are both big fields – more like an old-fashioned campsite. Upper Well Park had lots of trees and a very nice feel, although no EHU and a bit of a walk to the facilities.
There are three toilet/shower blocks. All of them have several family shower rooms as well as individual cubicles, and at least one accessible shower room with toilet. Hillcrest and Falcon View facilities are bigger and better established. Well Park has a bit of a portacabin feel which is a shame as it serves the largest part of the site. The showers were fine, but the block itself did get cold. There are two big ice-cream freezers to freeze your ice blocks which is a useful facility. The facilities seemed to hold up quite well, although on a very busy Saturday you might need to time your shower or washing up session to avoid the rush.
The General Store is well stocked, but it’s a bit of a walk down the hill. Although there is a pizza take-away and café, there isn’t a central club house or bar which I thought was a shame. It would also be nice to have a swimming pool – I know our weather is variable but I’m always disappointed how few English campsites have pools.
The campsite is very well-run. There is a large on-site warden team who are friendly and helpful without being officious. They drive round regularly to check the site and seemed very willing to sort out any problems that people had. We were lucky that although there were a couple of big groups, we didn’t witness any bad behaviour, but I felt confident that it would be challenged if there was.
In summary loads of pluses – location, facilities, staff, free access to the theme park (including after hours, when you can use the outdoor slides although the rides are shut).
It would be good if the Well Park facilities block could be upgraded to the standard of the other two. The only other negative was that the on-site wifi was very poor, even though there seemed to be booster aerials in most fields – definitely not worth the money.
I can’t give it a perfect ten as there are a few areas for improvement, but we had a great ten-day stay on the site and I’d have no hesitation in recommending it, or going back again.

We stayed here for one week during the school holidays and to be honest we weren't that impressed. It's a huge site but all the electric pitches seemed to be crammed into little bays. It felt like we were all on top of each other. We were shown to our pitch by a very friendly member of staff, where we were told to pitch our tent on the tarmac. We had wanted a grass pitch! It was a bit of a task, hammering tent pegs into the ground. The site had provided a sort of dirty footprint made of sacking (with holes in) but it didn't do much and we had a tent full of tarmac stones within a few days. The site itself had a decent shop and good shower/toilet facilities. The attached theme park was good for small children but ours were a bit old for it at 11 and 16. Despite having a 'no noise' rule we did find it a bit rowdy on a night as another family in the next bay seemed to have a drinks party every night.
Dartmouth was a short drive away, which was lovely to visit. Nice enough for young families but we would not return here. Expensive for what it was.

Stayed here over the early May Bank holiday weekend for three nights for the third year running. Had a special deal as we were staying as part of a larger group 'rally'. Check in is easy and quick, pitches are mostly level, plenty of water points and frequently emptied bins. The campsite is well managed, tidy and quiet. The facilities are also clean with a good range of showers, family rooms, bathrooms etc. Good dish washing areas and laundry. The bonus is the free entry into the theme park which is down hill from the camping area, our grandkids love the attractions as do we, water rides are a particular favourite. It is close to Dartmouth with plenty to see and there is also a very good pub just up the road from the campsite called the Sportsmans Arms, the carvery is especially good. No doubt we will be staying again next year.

The other reviews sum this place up. We have been visiting for years as a day member with our kids. Our first visit with touring van.
Check in was easy, staff very pleasant.
Warden met us in holding area to show us pitch. If anyone has trouble with reversing in, wardens will hook up your unit to their buggy, and do it for you, as a neighbour did.
Flat hard standing pitch, with a twist. Looks like tarmac, but you can actually put pegs into it!
Loads of little top stones, but a ground sheet is neatly folded up on your pitch for you to use free of charge.
The sight is on a hillside, so walking around can be a challenge for some.
Facilities are top notch. Extremely clean, and always being serviced. The sight is also very clean, with plenty of bins and water points.
Pitches are sub divided by hedges, with an average of 8 units in each.
Entry to the park is included on stays of 2 nights or more. Even with older children now, we still love it!1
There is a bus stop outside the park, but everywhere else, is a drive.
The park is very quiet, and well marshalled.
Will definitely be returning.

We stayed here for 3 nights during the October half term. The site was very clean and tidy and there were plenty of bins that were emptied regularly. The pitch was well maintained and there was even a ground sheet provided. The toilet block was very clean and it was nice to see that they have family rooms with baths as the little one is not keen on showers. The dish washing area had plugs for the sinks and cloths were provided. There was also a game and tv room which was open all day/night. The shop had everything we needed. The theme park next door was very good with lots of activities for us to do. I would recommend this site. Very good value for money.

My cousin and I came for a short break; as we stopped 2 nights we got free entrance to the park (see review). It advertises the best campsite in Europe! I would not say that but it is great for kids with the large indoor area, table tennis etc there are slot machines but in the old day it was 2p - but in this area it is 10p that's inflation for you.
There are disabled showers but they are a bit tired - perphaps it's low season! It would have been good if the shower head was handheld to help hairwashing.
If you want to remain very local it's good but if you want to use the site as a touring base there are lots of small roads to get out of area, so if you want to fit in more perhaps try a different campsite.
Rangers were continually round emptying bins etc so the site was always clean and tidy.

This is one of our favourite sites, have been many times and NEVER been disappointed. We always stay for 5 nights, Sunday to Friday morning, on their special deal for £54 (2 adults only, EHU, awning, off peak). It is an amazing deal for an excellent site with free access to the leisure park.
