8th campsite on our tour of Skye and the Outer Hebrides. 4 adults and a car. This was one of the best sites we stayed at. Sadly, followed the Satnav with postcode - don't make the same mistake we did. We came from the airport, travelling anti-clockwise, so need to go beyond the village on the main rd and will be on your right hand side. If you come from Castlebay, will be on your left before the village, so can't make a mistake. My fault, no signal, so couldn't check directions on website! I'll know better next time.
The facilities are fantastic, spotless toilets and showers, washing machine, dryer - the kitchen has the use of lots of appliances that we didn't need to use. Wifi included, but doesn't stretch to all areas, not a problem, as can go to the amenities block, where there are seats and information leaflets, visitors book etc. Site is situated overlooking a bay, we were lucky enough to see 2 seals. It is exposed, but you'd expect that, overlooking the bay, so be prepared for wind change and consequently, waves crashing over the rocks, not the quietest nights sleep. Also ideally located for catching the ferry to Oban.

Very responsive to messages. We were greeted at the site by Donald, very friendly, and explained everything we needed to know.
Directed us to our plot - absolutely amazing view over looking the sea, so we slept to the sound of the waves crashing on the shore. Facilities are great, toilets, hot showers - which are very clean and warm. You have free wifi access to contact family and friends. There is kitchen with a kettle, mugs, toaster, fridge and sink. It's £1 each to use the washer or dryer. We really enjoyed our night there, and will definitely return.
Booking is recommended due to the size of the site. You will not be disappointed, shame Donald can't control the weather, as I'm sure he would if he could!

This was our first stop on a long planned tour of the Outer Hebrides so we had made a booking in plenty of time. Just as well the site was rarely empty. Easy to find from the ferry at Castlebay even though our mobile based satnav wasn't working. The physical layout of the site isn't the greatest occupying a long narrow strip of land between road and sea but the view are what this site excels at. Met by Donald the owner and warmly welcomed and directed to our pitch over looking the sea. Indeed we spent most of our time here just soaking up the views and the sunsets. Toilets are very clean and adequate only downside about the shower and kitchen block was fighting your way through the hoards of children and adults logging on to their phones and tablets and blocking up the entrance. Terrific kitchen facilities for those who are camping in titchy tents with a highlight of crab being available in the fridge for an honesty payment of £5. 00. Wonderful crab and one pot made us a crab salad and crab rolls the next day. No beach access just rocky cliffs but a short walk in either direction of ten to fifteen minutes brings you to fantastic white sandy beaches. I also enjoyed a day spent on the local mountains, wild and craggy but fantastic views from the summits to sit and soak up. Turn over was fairly constant on the site but would reckon most people are touring anyway.

I've stayed at this campsite a couple of times and never get fed up with it. The site is small so I would recommend booking but it is situated in the most stunning part of the island.
The amenities are clean and have everything that you would need for camping. (kettles, charge points etc).
A word of warning though. Don't plan to eat at the Isle of Barra hotel which is less than a 10 minute walk from the site. They are a bit hit and miss with providing food. They don't serve if there are coach parties staying at the hotel. Head for Castlebay instead.

Just stayed 3 nights on this site. Amazing spot right on the coast. Fantastic size pitch not packed in at all even when busy. Donald does a fantastic job of organising pitches and keeping everything clean and tidy. Facilities are exactly what's needed. Clean showers and toilets, a small kitchen to use with kettle, microwave, fridge, toaster, washing machine, dryer and more and WiFi access in and around building. Cycleable to castlebay for shops etc approx 2. 5 miles. Very friendly and helpful. Loved it. The area is great lovely beach approx 1 mile up road and many more on island.

2nd visit to Borve campsite and it was even better than last year (excluding the weather).
It is a really nice walk into Castlebay or one of the cracking beaches either side of the campsite.
Much busier this year but toilet/shower block was kept immaculate by Donald and his assistant.
We stayed for 4 nights as we wanted to spend a few days at Luskentyre on Harris but a week or two at Borve would have been a pleasure.
We will be back.

It was a little windy & wet for our visit but the location is ideal for touring the rest of Barra & not far from the ferry - make sure you head over to Vatersay the beaches are amazing. Also the Community Shop in Castlebay hires bikes and has a great range of local goods & gifts & some gluten free items too (I couldn't find any in the Co-op). I can only echo what other reviewers have said in that facilities are excellent and spotless and Donald was visibly on hand daily. Although our pitch was cramped it was not an issue as we were only there for a couple of nights and it was wet, so no need for space outside. He did say that people had pitched up without booking in which was not his fault and clearly this would not normally be an issue. Due to the layout (unless you were at either end of the site) not an ideal site for very young children as obviously despite being supervised at all times there were vehicles driving close past our pitch to the other pitches but for every other age group it would be fine. A little road noise but nothing unexpected being next to the road nor when compared to the mainland! We would certainly return again when the kids are older and can highly recommend.

It's a shame - the reviews have to be at least 200 words - as I would write only one - brilliant!
Donald (who is also the postman) gave us a very warm welcome. We had a pitch on the cliff side with undisturbed views out over the sea. We spent the evening watching the dolphins. Showers are warm & clean with lots of hot water. & the kitchen had lots of little free bits in for walkers/tents. Can not fault it - will definitely be back.

I stayed in this cracking little campsite in May with Temperatures of 3deg and wind gusting Force 9. Snow hail and rain was had too! Donald - who runs it - is fab and so helpful, wonderful amenities - everything you could wish for and wifi. Then the weather improved - waking in the morning to the call of the Oyster Catchers, watching Gannets feed while drinking your tea, parked 4 feet from the Ocean cannot be beaten. 3 min from Coop in Castlebay. Perfect. Visit Barra - its a very special place. Wonderfully friendly people. Thank you Donald!PS Lemon drizzle cake at the Airport Cafe and the Castlebay Post Office has to be sampled. Divine!

As described by others, the location is superb, perched as it is between the road and the sea overlooking a big rocky bay. The facilities were warm and spotless, and the wildlife abundant - we stayed only 3 nights, but during that time there were otters and dolphins showing in the bay. I would advise you to book in advance though, as the Hebrides are becoming very popular as a destination. With lower ferry fares and more motorhomes being sold every year, the sites are all getting busier and whilst it is always worth turning up 'on the off chance, there was not room to accommodate everyone who drove in, despite it being only May. The owner Donald was really helpful when the ferry broke down and stranded people overnight, juggling bookings as far as he could to accommodate people returning hopefully to the site. If you like wild, white sandy beaches, do take a drive over the nearby causeway to Vatersay, where you will find a couple of real beauties! Definitely a site we will return to.
