We have just got home after a week at Borve and cannot praise it highly enough. This was our second stay at Borve and Donald is continuing to expand the site to provide a more sheltered area for tent campers. The boat from Oban was unable to sail most of the week due to the very windy weather, so we had the place to ourselves.
Such a peaceful spot- you can watch the sunset and then lie in bed listening to the waves on the rocks.
Absolute perfection.

This was our first stop in the OH, we stayed for two nights, and my-oh-my what a good choice. The site is small but in a marvellous location just above the beach and little cove where you could sit and happily watch the ebb and flow of the tide. Donald the owner was on site to meet us from the ferry and suggest where to pitch and he was in evidence every day, in case of any problems - there weren't any. The facilities are first class; new, modern, sleek and spotless. You genuinely could not ask for more. Its a short hop from the ferry and the attractions of Castlebay and well situated near the main road for seeing the rest of Barra and the isle of Vatersay (of the Vatersay Raiders fame and more recently the music of the 'Vatersay Boys'- watch them on You Tube). As a location from which to see the island of the beach runway, of rocky bays and sparkling sand, of Frazer in Dads Army and of Whisky Galore (the author Compton Mackenzie is buried at Eoligarry) and to get a first taste of the scottish 'gaidhealtachd' it cannot be beaten. It really is that good. The only positive criticism I could make - and it is a tiny one - is to create a greywater disposal point at ground level. Other than that three cheers for Donald.

What a great site. Everything everyone else has said is so true. The owner was very prompt in responding to emails and when we had to change our plans he was very understanding. He was waiting when we arrived, told us where everything was and offered advise on the area. The facilities are first class, clean and there is everything you could need in the kitchen. The showers were very clean and hot and plenty of water.
It is a small site not far from Castlebay on the main road so easy to find and very well organised with the white board stating who is expected.
There were even eggs for sale in the kitchen.
The only issue we could have had if we had stayed longer would have been the waste water as we need a level drain and the one on site was raised so we could not drive over it. Just something to be aware of if in a mother home.
This is a site we will return to and is certainly one of the best we have used in our three week trip to Scotland.

Campsite is very easy to find, and we had a lovely welcome from Donald. He was waiting to greet us and we were pitching within minutes. Stunning views, always windy I think! The facilities are excellent, absolutely spotless clean toilets and showers. We stayed for 4 nights and each day Donald came down to see if we had any problems. The kitchen was really well equipped for campers as it does rain quite a lot! even a George Freeman grill. As well as being a crofter Donald is also a postman so you tend to see him out and about. So pleased we chose this campsite, wouldn't hesitate to visit again it's very tempting to stay longer but we were touring up through all the islands. Seeing the plane landing on the beach is a must but all depends on the weather, we were third time lucky! as it had been cancelled previously due to the awful weather. The airport cafe is well worth a visit, very good soup and yummy cakes, all home made and very friendly service. This was our first visit to the Islands and Barra was quite a culture shock, soon got used to the way of life and will definitely visit again. A visit to Vatersay is a must do, better if you can choose a nice day but the weather changes so quickly on the Islands. Didn't eat out in the evening as we have two dogs but there are several places to eat in nearby Castlebay.

All the on site facilities are above average, useful shops ( petrol, supermarket, pub, well hotel bar actually) are less than 5 minutes away, good dog walking facilities just outside site and the owner was very helpful. The views. Wow! The Big Two could learn a lot from this campsite. Well done Donald 5 star site.

Fantastic location above rocky foreshore with sea views from all pitches. Very well maintained site with a new shower block and facilities. Super showers and very clean. My best wishes to the lady who is responsible for that as she taxied the 4 of us to beach! Thanks.
2. 5 miles to the curry house in Castlebay, a lovely walk and a brill curry, especially the scallop pakora!
Dog walking / exercise area next to site.
We would recommend this site to travellers starting or finishing their Hebridean journey.

This was our 1st OH site and set the standard for future comparisons. Donald keeps the site and facilities perfectly with excellent kitchen facilities for campers including microwave and he is an excellent host, wishing to ensure everyone is catered for whether their unit is a tent / motorhome / caravan. A small site overlooking the turquoise sea with several sandy beaches within a short walk. Close to Castlebay and perfectly located as a base for exploring the island. Would definitely stay again.

My wife and I stayed here for the first two nights of our camping trip to Outer Hebrides. Not only that, but this was our first ever camping trip.
To start with, prior to booking we searched on here for reviews and there was email contact details for Donald, the site owner. I emailed him re availability and got a prompt response. This sort of thing is important to me.
Our ferry was slightly delayed from Oban so it was after 10pm when we arrived and it was chucking down with rain. Although there is a white sign as you drive in with all the names of the guests expected, Donald was on hand to advise us where to pitch. He remembered me, my email and the fact that we had a largeish tent (Vango Icarus 500). Most of the other tents were smallish. Donald also gave us a loan of an electric hook up cable.
Site was lovely, right on the side of the water. It was originally a croft and Donald explained how he had got the diggers in to level it off and then put all the utilities in. Gents toilet had one urinal, one cubicle (I think or was it 2) and a free shower. There was also separate disabled WC and a kitchen area for the campers to use with a toaster, kettle, microwave and George Foreman grill! There was also coin operated washing machine and tumble dryer. I am not lying when I say the toilets were cleaner than my own house!
Site is slightly exposed to winds, Donald reckoned they were about 25-30mph while we were there but although the tent flexed and moved a lot, there was no risk of it coming down.
There isn't too much in the immediate vicinity - there is a hotel about half a mile along the road but they have a sign up saying no entrance to non guests!
Castlebay is about 2 miles away and has a couple of hotels and bars and the wonderful Kismul café which serves a selection of fresh Italiand and Indian food with the focus on fish.
If in the area, you must go over to Vatersay to visit the beaches over there - even if its pouring down they are still the most stunning beaches I will ever see in my life!
It will take no more than one hour to drive the full of Barra island and of course you must visit the airport and see the planes arriving and taking off on the beach.
We were in the Outer Hebrides for 6 nights and stayed 2 in Barra, 2 in Benbecula and 2 in Stornoway. If doing it again, I would spend more time in Barra and on this site in particular.

I agree with the other rave reviews. This is an amazing little site. Everything that you need in a beautiful location. Barra is one of my favourite islands and this site only adds to the attraction Donald cannot do enough to help and the facilities are first rate. I would be back there tomorrow if I could!

I have nothing negative to say about this campsite. It is a short drive from Castlebay and you should also drive to Vatersay the beaches are lovely. The facilities are excellent and Donald is such a lovely person. We forgot to pre book, yet Donald found us a pitch for our tent. This site sits right at the edge of the sea and the views are stunning, especially watching the sun rise and set. Donald is very helpful and we even seen him helping a couple with their motor home when they had a problem.
The facilities a very clean and there is a small kitchen area with washing machine, microwave, fridge, kettle etc for campers. The views are fantastic and dolphins come into the cove on occasion. We have stayed here twice now when touring the outer Hebrides and on both occasions we have had a great time. Definitely value for money.
