Small but wonderful site that is perched on a ledge overlooking the Atlantic. Ground isn't peg friendly, so decent pegs and a mallet are advised. Toilets and showers clean and very acceptable and the site owner is a proper nice geezer. We saw Dolphins and Seals in the small bay directly in front of our tent and to top everything off we had a wonderful display of meteors from the Perseids meteor shower. The sky there is very dark and the Milky Way is a sight to behold when viewing it from Borve. Highly recommended.

We arrived on a wildly windy afternoon, we'd not booked, but that was fine. We had a super pitch at the front of the site overlooking the Atlantic. For us in a van it was fine, but rather too windy for some tents (it was v. Windy!)
The facilities are superb. Great toilets and showers. A good kitchen too. The owner is friendly and about enough to answer queries that you may have.
Like others have said, it's new and it's well located and has good facilities and not over priced. I think it was £15 for a night.
I would definitely recommend and use this site again.

What an amazing location, situated right on the edge of the Atlantic. Arrived off the ferry and DOnald, who incidentally is a real sweetie, gave us the best pitch with the most amazing views. From the comfort of our tent, we could see the sunsets and the sea, and were lulled into a tranquil heaven each night by the sound of the waves
The place is still undergoing finishing touches but everything works just fine and the showers are great. Nice touch with the kettle too. Donald is very helpful and answered numerous emails from me, with me endless questions.
The area around the site is quite stunning. Particularly when one is blessed with a gorgeous sunset. It can get windy at times but for us, it just added to the ambience. I think this site is going to be the finest on Barra for those seeking the wild and beautiful scenery, coupled with peace and tranquility
We paid a tenner a night for a large and I mean large tent:) Very good value

A dramatically located site on a shelf above a bay on the west coast of the island. The Isle of Barra hotel is just around the corner and the walk into Castlebay is quite manageable. The bus service on the island runs past the site entrance and will drop you right at it, you could probably flag the bus here too but I would recommend walking round the corner towards the hotel were the road widens for catching the bus.
The site feels very new. The ground was very sandy and the turf still fresh which wasn't great for pegging but I assume that the ground will improve with time. We didn't get blown away in the wind so it's not that bad.
The facilities are still being finished but are looking very impressive. The shower was very good and we very much appreciated the kettle when we arrived.
Only met the owner very briefly when he came round in the morning about 9:30am. £12 for a two man tent seems fair for the type of site he's putting together. I suspect that this is going to be one of the great sites on the island in the future.
We didn't get to fully appreciate the site because of the bad weather we had but we will probably be back again.

A beautiful location and only a couple of miles from the port/town of Castlebay ( which has a large Co - op ) and only a couple of minutes walk from the Beach Hotel with a bar and restaurant which was open on a Sunday and served food from 5. 30-8. 00 pm.
The site is set below a road but was not disturbed by any road noise, the number of birds saw to that !
The owner was apparently featured in a BBC programme called An Island Parish and is extremely approachable and knowledgeable and was just finishing off the new toilet / shower block.
I paid £8 for each night for a tent and motorbike, the showers are very hot and free.

This is another lovely campsite. The position is excellent, on the coast, directly overlooking the sea. When we stayed here the electricity was not connected so hook-up and hot water/showers were not available. The owner, Donald, was working hard to get it sorted. He had been let down by the electricity company. In fact, it was being connected the day we left, so all should be in order now.
The facilities are good - all new, in a newly built toilet block. When finished, there will be a campers kitchen and washing machine along with the showers and toilets. Also facilities for the disabled.
Borve is about a 15 minute drive from the ferry at Castlebay. It is a pleasant walk into Castlebay along the road or the bus can be taken. There is a hotel just along the road, about a 10 minute walk, where there is a bar and restaurant. There are lovely walks all around Borve - up into the hills, including up Heaval or along the coast to visit the beautiful beaches where there are seals and the chance to see dolpins.

Still very much a work in progress. They had 2 toilets working when we were there but no showers, electricity, lighting, EHU etc and the toilet block etc was a bit of a building site but owner aware and admitted he is starting to get complaints. When finished it will be lovely had he had 2 workmen working into the evenings so hopefully this will be soon.
The views are amazing and the price for 2 of us and the dog in the van was £8 per night.
200 meters down the road is the Beach Hotel where the bar is rather basic with no windows and the chairs are deck chairs which is rather uncomfortable but it is dog friendly and food is OK.

Nestled between the road and the sea, Donald has crafted a sheltered 'green step' with space for 18 pitches. As a site he is the first to admit that it is a work in progress, so far in this first year water supply and refuse collection are the only facilities, but with great plans for next year.
However, with a view of the sunset from just about anywhere on the site and the rocky beach just over the fence, many people will agree with me that it is enough. Donald has taken a great deal of trouble to create a reasonably level site, with an easy entrance ramp down from the road.
At the moment you can simply show up and pitch, Donald will come round in the evening to have a chat and collect his modest charge of £8/night for a large motorhome.
Chemical waste can be disposed of at the ferry terminal in Castlebay about three miles away. (A point about that. No-where on Barra could we find Loo fluid. Donald brough us some back from Uist! - He plans to hold some in stock in future. )
All in all, a nice casual site, wonderful views, and all the help you could hope for from Donald, -and some splendid potatoes! On an island with few facilities for motorhomes, a refreshing change.
