Have been visiting this site for a number of years, the maintenance of the buildings etc are up to date. Shower blocks clean and spacious. Washing up area also well maintained and the water is always hot. The Owners are always cheerful and helpful. The playground is ideal, not too big and not too small. The hedges around the site acts as a good windbreak. Will definitely use again. I wish we could have stay longer.

Lovely site. really level pitch. excellent washing facilities, which were cleaned daily people. nice owners, nice too. Bit over the top on noise policy, kids playing in my eyes is what's part of being a family site, rude or bad behaved or boisterous yes. But kids playing noisy no. Just felt like you were afraid to speak as this would be too noisy. would I go back, not sure as we have kids. People returning from the town late were louder.

Really liked the site. Friendly, helpful staff on arrival.
Small playground could do with a bit of a 're-vamp' but adequate to keep kids entertained. Games room also could do with addressing or maybe converting? but again adequate for rainy days. If the above were addressed feel this would add so much more value to the site, so shouldnt be seen as a negative!
Shower / toilet blocks - really big and clean, hairdryers provided. Loved the fact that there is a separate dressing area within your shower cubicle.
Local information is on hand, not only in reception but also within shower blocks too which was most helpful.
Prices really reasonable.
Would go back again.
Only negative aspect of our stay was the food from local takeaways!

Stayed for one night, as the 1st leg of our journey around the coast.
Arrived to a very warm welcome from the down to earth owner. Site prices were also very reasonable, £16. 75 for our camper & dog incl. Hook up. We were shown to our pitch even though it was quite late.
Didn't use many of the facilities, but what we did see were good quality & cared for. Toilets had separate sinks & shower areas all in 1 cubicle, very handy & unusual. Weather was pretty atrocious, but the site has some shelter with hedging etc. There were quite a few people on site, including some brave tents but mostly in statics.
The town itself had everything you might need, & the old part was v quaint (beware the narrow streets if you're in a large vehicle or towing!). We got a little lost trying to find the site as you need to go through another private holiday park.

I love this camp site. I only live 15 mins away from it but when the weather is nice and I fancy a night away from the house, I ring them up and they always accommodate us for one night without any problems. The owners are so friendly. Always giving a warm welcome, always walk you to your pitch. As always the toilet block was spotless and I have never visited and found it dirty. My kids love the trampoline but the swing has been removed and not replaced. The shop is well stocked but the local Filco supermarket is only 5 mins away by car. I haven't tried their food, but a nice warm latte is good to wake you up in the morning and at £1. 30 not badly priced. I will always use this campsite for many years to come.

I booked this site last minute as we needed somewhere to stay in between Cardiff and Porthcawl. We had a fabulous long weekend and would highly recommend the site.
The site is fantastic and the surrounding area is beautiful, especially the (old) town and beach of Llantwit Major and Ogmore Castle and the sand dunes at Merther Mawr.
Everyone who works there is very friendly and helpful. The site was probably not even half full so there was lots of space and we were right next to the water tap.
The only thing, it was quite wet when we were there and the fields were quite muddy, would be even worse in constant rain as there is no hardstanding anywhere.
The shower blocks were clean with plenty of hot water. The baby room wasn't working so we had to use the disabled which was fine for us. These shower rooms are locked so you must get the key when reception is open and pay a £10 refundable deposit.
Nice big area for washing up and laundry in the same block.
A shop on site sells everything you might need and the prices aren't too bad.
Our kids loved the play area with trampoline, slide and playhouses. All the equipment was immaculate.
It is set in a working farm with countryside all around and there was no noise at all, very peaceful.
We had directions to come off the M4 at Jct 33 and follow signs to the airport, then to Llantwit Major, then turn left when you see signs for the campsite.
It is easy to find although as you come down that road past the school the road turns sharply to the right at the bottom of the hill and the entrance to the campsite is on the left and not signposted, doing a u-turn with the caravan was not great!
We will definitely go back although at approx £21 a night I think it is reasonable but when our daughter becomes 2 and we are charged an extra £4.75 a night for her I think the tariff starts to become a little steep.

We stayed here for just over a week whilst we visited the Eisteddfod, which was near Llantwit Major this year.
The owners were very welcoming, friendly and helpful when we arrived and during our stay. The site was very busy but the facilities were kept in good condition which takes a lot of time and effort. There could be a case made for updating the toilet block in due course, but they really look after the facilities as they are. Always plenty of hot water in the showers.
We will definitely return some day. The site is ideal for visiting Barry, Bridgend, Swansea and Cardiff, the train station is about a mile away with free park and ride facilities. The access is a bit rough but as its shared with other users (Farmers, Chalet and Flat owners etc)this is not surprising, take your time and you will be OK. Look for the sleeping policemen (x6) on Ham Lane and make sure you know where to turn left, its a bit tricky as the owner said they were not allowed a bigger sign but there is a small Acorn sign in place. Overall an excellent site. !

We have just spent 5 nights at Acorn. We really cannot fault this site. There is a small shop on site that stocks most essentials. The toilet block has ample showers at no extra cost and there was never a queue. There is a small children's play area with a trampoline.
There is a small games room with table tennis table and pool table. There are some lovely walks to be had nearby and there are local shops about a 15 min walk away. The local train station can get you directly into Cardiff.
The pitches are flat and EHU is available. We opted for a private pitch with EHU and the cost for 5 nights for 2adults and 2 children was £132 which we thought was reasonable and that was the most expensive option!
The staff on site are always pleasant and very knowledgeable about the area and things to see and do.
I would definitely recommend this site and look forward to visiting again one day.

I recently had a long stay at the site due to working away from home ( 1 month ).
I found the owners paul, nikki & silvia and grounds man, very helpful and friendly towards myself and other campers. The pitches on the two camping fields were surounded in areas with shrubs to give a little more of a quiet area ( top of fields if you are booking ).
The caravan fields were clean and tidy with the water collection to the centre of the two fields.
The shop has a good selection of all the weekend away food you need, there is also a good selection of camping spares etc.
Toilet blocks are clean with good washing area for utencils. Washing machines and driers to.
Kids play area needs a little tlc, but it was always full of kids.
The area of llanwitt Major has an area of old traditional welsh houses so you need to have a look around the small lanes.
Shops with all you need only a 10/15min walk or take your bicycle for a 5 min ride.
On occasions at weekends I left my awning and equipment on my pitch, and had no problems at all with leaving until my return.
Would recommend for a stay away.

We spent 2 nights here on Our 1st ever camping trip and thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. As it was just me and my young son staying we felt safe on this site.
Lovely playground and trampoline and great shower block and toilets which was spotlessly clean. They also had hair dryers, iron & ironing board, washing machines and tumble dryer.
Great little shop selling bits and bobs, takeaways (food and hot drinks). Friendly staff.
Good area, close to beach and shops. Will definitely return.
