Spent late May Bank holiday weekend on this site, our second visit this year.
Site is very central for us for visiting family - we will use regularly. Very impressed with the personal touch. My partner broke his foot two days before we went and we had considered cancelling our visit, but we went for it - it was made easier by having the disabled facilities (shower toilet and hand basin in large room plenty big enough for both of us).
We generally go to adult only sites and so noticed it was a little noisier than we are used to - it was a bank holiday weekend and the whole idea of camping is to have fun, so no complaints!
Play area looks like fun for the kids - but beware the majority go there unaccompanied and it is right beside the road into the site - kids run across the road in front of you so drive very slowly.

We stayed at Acorn over the bank holiday weekend, having read previous positive reviews, as we wanted a family friendly site where we could also take our dog.
We weren't disappointed. The owners were very welcoming and helpful. The site has a well stocked shop and they also provide a takeaway breakfast at reasonable prices, there is a playground and clean toilets and shower blocks with plenty of piping hot water.
The pitch we had was close to the caravans and was large enough, but there were nicer pitches. Being bank holiday the site was busy, but didn't appear overcrowded. A major plus was that it was quiet at night! No loud music or excessive noise after 11pm allowed, but relaxed enough for people to have barbies etc.
Just across the farm track is a walk through fields and woods to the beach, which took 30 mins approx, great dog walk.
We drove to the local shops, which is 20 mins walk. There are 2 supermarkets there,a couple of takeaways and a good toy shop.
Fantastic coastline, with plenty to do, we shall return.

We booked this site because we wanted a base for a limited sightseeing weekend in South Wales. We chose well. We had to re schedule and juggle our planned trips out, due the the weather being predictably random. But who cares when you're camping. The site was exactly what we were expecting if not better having booked it after reading your reviews. Great little shop, Warm, friendly and helpful welcome by the staff. The shop even had a brake light for my car (which petrol stations don't always have these days) Facilities fabulous and clean. Pitches the same. Walk into the little town pleasant, ha! walk to the beach, in the car.We are over 50. To sum it up in a nut shell 'An excellent site!'. Gold Star

We tried this camp site as we didn't know how the dog would react to camping, so we could drop her home from this location.
As soon as you arrive in Llanwit major, you will see sign posts for camping. When you find the school you are nearly there, so its easy to find.
When you arrive at reception, booking in is very quick. You are shown personally to your pitch which is a nice touch.
The pitches are clearly laid out. But you are very near your neighbour and there is only room for 1 car.
There is a nice playground for the children and a small games room which has seen better days.
The showers and toilets were very clean and there is an indoor area to wash your dishes.
There is a small shop on site which sells hot drinks and some food, but this does close about early evening.
This site is not near the beach. We walked with the baby and dog and it took about an hour over many fields. I would definitely recommend driving.
The site is for families only and the stay was very enjoyable. As there is no club house most families had BBQ's and drinks at the tent.
I would definitely go again. I think it was a brilliant weekend as we had a heat wave. But if it was raining you would be limited with no clubhouse. I would give the camp site 9/10 as it was the best I had been to.

Beautiful location very peaceful, nice sized park with a mix of static vans, touring pitches and tent pitches.
Nice reception shop with a warm welcome, little park with trampoline, small arcade and adult snooker room.
Large shower block very clean and free hot shower.
In walking distance to town centre and beach.
Nice public houses in town centre with variety of take aways and restaurants.
Easy access just follow signs to caravan park from llantwit town centre

We have just spent another fantastic weekend at Acorn for Halloween. The service from the owners was again outstanding and they had made a real effort for the occasion and even dressed up! They put a scavenger hunt on for the kids and the whole atmosphere on site was impressive. The site also has a great facilities block that is clean and inviting. You can walk to the beach in about 20 mins where you will find a great café which is open 364 days a year. A walk into town is also about 20 mins where you will find an array of shops and eateries etc. All in all a great family site.

We stayed on this site for a weekend and found it to be a beautiful site. The approach is slight off putting, driving between farm buildings full of machinery, but once there the site is well laid out and level. The pitches are pre-allocated but a fair size. The facilities are excellent, very clean and well looked after. The location is convenient for cliff top walks and the local town of Llantwit Major is interesting and has plenty of shops. A little further away is Cowbridge, a larger market town. I would definitely recommend this site and will return again.

We arrived from the north of Scotland. We had some difficulty in finding the site (as the sat nav had stopped talking to me hours before but that is another story.) Once on the site through the farm yard we were welcomed by friendly owners and shown to our site which at that time was before school holidays and mid week, we had loads of room if we had wanted to put up an awning.
The turn off the pitch onto the exit road to leave the site was tight for us as we do not have power stearing, we were on the first pitch which ment I had to drive forward reverse back to get a wider turn. I asked if they could move us to one further in as it would have made life easier for getting off but they said they usually keep the end for Motor Homes as they are going off through the day which is fair comment and we did manage.
The toilet block was spaceous and clean, The shop for food was good for the essentials and the spare parts for caravan, tents and M/H was great as a reading light had blown and I was able to replace it but it was well stocked from tent pegs to sleeping bags.
There was a small play area for children. I walked to the beach from there 20 /30 mins. There is also a coastal path for walker's and dog owners.

What a great site. Owners were friendly and very helpful. Quiet, clean and very well maintained grounds. Shop was well stocked and I can highly recommend the egg and bacon rolls for breakfast. Local area was lovely and locals are very friendly. My only gripe is that the toilet/shower block are the other side of the camp next to the statics and the tourers who are more likely to have their own facilities so a bit of a trek in the middle of the night (but this is my laziness). We booked as a spare of the moment getaway and we had a great time. It was only a 3 day trip but we all wanted to stay longer. We will be returning again next year. I can highly recommend this campsite you wont be disappointed.

Our first camping trip after several years break. We all liked the site, facilities and surrounding area and definitely plan to go back again. We booked 4 nights, and although pitches are quite close together, everything quietened down around 11pm when the owners did their tour of the site.
The shower/toilet block was kept very clean and warm. The site owners are polite and friendly.
After discovering we could walk to the rocky beach, our 12 and 14 year olds were happy to go to the beach every day, so the only time we used our car was when it rained and we decided to visit the Dr Who exhibition in Cardiff.
The supermarkets in Llantwit were great for stocking up on groceries - as the camp shop is very basic, sells milk and butter and a few canned goods but no bread, and closes at 5pm.
We had a lovely pub lunch at the White Hart (Swan?) in the town -generous portions. The old Norman church in Llantwit is also worth a visit if you enjoy history.
The only minor problem we had is that one night the noise of the wind in the trees kept our son awake, and the tractor in the neighbouring field was still going up and down the other side of the hedge until around 10pm. Overall, we would highly recommend this site, with its lovely clean facilities.
