After reading previous reviews we were fully prepared for the sloping field and the wind, so can't really complain about those (though the wind was so horrific there were damaged tents everywhere and got a terrible night's sleep).
However, we weren't particularly impressed in general. Pitches on the field aren't marked so naturally people just plonk their tents anywhere which doesn't really make life easy for people arriving after them. In some areas cars can go next to your tent, in others you can't so if you can't get your car near where you want to pitch it's potentially a real pain in the backside when it comes to pitching and clearing away your tents. Despite the departure time being 10am, and earliest arrivals being 12pm, the field had clearly not been checked over.
There is a great deal of general rubbish hanging around, for example next to our pitch we ended up with some wrecked chairs, broken cd cases and a broken windbreak.
The toilets were pretty grim. The other half complained that the gents toilets were really smelly and not very clean at all. The ladies had water all over the floor (it wasn't raining, and hadn't been all that day) and some cubicles were missing locks and toilet roll holders. There weren't many sinks which means if you're wanting to go and put make-up on/contact lenses in/do your hair in front of the mirror you're likely to get evil looks from people waiting to use the sinks. They could do with some cubicled sinks for washing and stuff, as opposed to having the same ones for washing your hands when you've been to the loo. Not many hand dryers either, and hygiene standards certainly weren't up to much.
We didn't use the showers as we departed early due to horrific weather and tent issues, and we also didn't use any of the entertainment facilities.
It's not a bad site for families because they'd appreciate the pool and kids' stuff, but for people without kids it's potentially a nightmare - screaming kids day and night, cycling and running in front of your car without looking, etc.
The beach beside the campsite is lovely and I imagine it's idyllic in the right weather. However, if you're considering going to this site and the weather is a bit iffy, seriously be prepared. The wind was strong enough to rip one tent out of the ground, and another had gaffer tape in various places. Not for the faint-hearted.

There was 5 people in out party - 3 adults and 2 under 2's. We arrived early on the day of our arrival as we were told that you could pitch up earlier if there was enough pitches. Within 5 minutes of finding a pitch we were greeted by the touring park warden, he was very polite and friendly he just checked our documentation and even offered to help us to pt up the awning - greatly appreciated as we had never put it up before. Yes the pitches do slope but we found that the bottom of touring area 2 didn't seem bad.
The toilet blocks were cleaned regularly and kept tidy (obviously if its raining then people bring in muck of their shoes) and cleaning staff very polite and friendly if you do see them. Showers were nice and warm (after the 1st 30 seconds - minute). We chose to use the block between touring area 1 and 2 the most as we wanted to avoid any possible crowds from the tent field.
There also seemed to be plenty of drinking water taps around the touring areas.
As the children we took are very young we didn't see any of the evening entertainment but it appeared to be a good mix but can not really comment on that. We did however use the kids clubs and go on the picnic with bradley bear - kids enjoyed it very much!
There was an outdoor children's play area with ariel slide, swings, slides, small roundabout and even baby swings which ours loved. The soft play area within the arcade is VERY small with nothing really in it so the eldest of the boys just ran around in a circle.
Swimming pool seemed very busy as all times but it was August! We didn't go in it but I don't think my kids would have waited a long time in a queue to go in it!
The chip shop seems very overpriced for the portions you get.
The bar/restaurant is quite good value for money and not much more expensive than going to a normal pub that sells food.
The on site shop is rather expensive - but it's the only shop around, some things arn't too bad and you can get hot sausage rolls etc and mobile top-ups. It did seemed well stocked with the essentials (milk: 2 pint carton, bread: Kingsmill great everyday and eggs).
The beach is at the bottom of a VERY steep hill but there is a tractor that runs up and down the hill which is free!
If you are towing be warned about the road down to the site, it is quite narrow in some places and a double decker can come the other way (scarborough - bridlington via primrose valley and blue dolphin and reighton sands) and also very big bumps in the road like having hills in the road up and down lol.

Got a fantastic deal for just £5 a night, with full use of the facilities as it was early week term time.
The site itself is great for families, with lots of entertainment provided, our son loved the early evening show, although it might get a bit wearing after a couple of nights, as it seemed to be the same story every night. The swimming pool was lovely and we didn't need to book as it was fairly quiet. There was also a fairly big adventure style playground which we basically had the run of as it was so quiet.
The tent pitches are at the far end of the site, a 10 minute walk from the entertainment area and it's basically exposed on two sides to the north sea. Yes the view was lovely, but the wind made it impossible to spend any time at the tent in comfort. Ours is a tunnel tent and, if it hadn't been for the kind help of a nearby couple watching us struggle, we may well have taken off, handgliding style.
The tent field was on a steep slope, luckily there was only 2 other tents when we arrived so we got a fairly level pitch. The cliffs are unfenced and with the wind as it was, we were terrified to let our 2 year old out of our sight for a second, so again, we really spend no time at the tent at all, not even to boil the kettle for a cuppa! I would happily award the park would get 10 out 10 for child friendliness, if it weren't for the open cliffs at the tent pitches.
We used the on site restuarant twice, the food wasn't bad, fairly standard pub chain quality, with a fairly good selection of adult and children's meals. There's also a chippy which we didn't get to try.
The toilet and shower facilities were perhaps a little dated at the tent site and not altogether clean, particularly bearing in mind how quiet the site was, although other facilities in the park were much more modern and comfortable.
The on site shop was really well stocked, with pretty much everything you could want, except tinned tomatoes for some reason!
All in all, we loved the family friendly feel of the site but wouldn't return in a tent again, the beauty of the view simply didn't compensate for the battering we got from the wind. We were up and packed and away by 7am, that's a first for us! But for a fiver a night, we can't really grumble!

Got back from this site yesterday as previously stated the tent area is on quite a steep slope and was very windy but it was expected with it being on a cliff top. The view more then makes up for it. Get there as early as you're allowed to (12pm)and you may be lucky to get on the more level areas at the bottom end or the very top. We went to the very far side and about half way up the hill is a fairly level spot. Although this does mean a longer walk to the toilets.
The showers were adequate get there early and you won't need to queue, but the cleaners don't come til 6.30/7am so will still be dirty if you go before. Also, if you have young children ask at the reception for a key for the family bathroom, much easier than struggling in the shower block.
The entertainment is the usual Haven fare, the food in the restaurant left much to be desired although on the day we left we went for breakfast which was good, a choice of 5 items with unlimited tea or coffee for £2.45.
I doubt we'll be going back to this site, only for the fact that there are better campsites for tents around, we only went there this time because we had family staying there. But I wouldn't tell anyone not to go there, just be prepared for the wind :). We paid £17 per night inc the entertainment passes, so as the saying goes you get what you pay for. It was my wife and our 5 year old daughters first camping trip, she prefers her home comforts, but she's already planning our next trip, and the little one was upset about leaving, so it can't have been that bad.

We didn't take our old caravan so we stayed in a static caravan, Superior 3 bedroom, it wasn't fantastic it was kinda run down. Would not recommend this type of caravan.
The site was clean, plenty to keep the kids busy, although we didn't use any of them as we no longer have small children.
Sampled the food again we didn't find it great althought was not that expensive.
The shop was well stocked for our needs, nice beach with a very steep walk to it, but the site provides a free trailer ride if your legs wont take you there.
We had a wander around the touring area which looked clean and has good space between caravans, the pitches have gravel, however it has quite a slope.
Toured the surrounding areas Scarborough, Filey and had a trip to York which was about an hour drive away, also done Flamingo Land which was a great day out and only about 30 minutes away from the site.

We have just returned from a weekend camping at the Haven site at Reighton Sands. We have stayed at the site previously (last year) but that was in a static caravan and this is our first time camping at the site. The camping field is predominantly on a slope and we arrived at 6pm so the flatter pitches were already taken, however, there was loads of space to pick from to pitch our tent in and we didn’t notice the slope during our stay – so long as you get your feet pointing downhill when you’re asleep we never find this an issue. The toilets were always clean and were in abundance – more available than any other site we’ve stayed on. The showers too were clean and there were plenty of them, they’re also free of charge and no time limit on them so you could relax and shower without racing against the clock. I had a shower at 7.30am on Saturday and 8.15am on Sunday and only a couple of the other showers were in use both times so no worries of queuing. There was an issue in that it was impossible to keep shower water within the tray with the water spilling out into the rest of the cubicle which left little dry area to get out of the shower into. That said, the fall of the floor seemed to be towards the middle of the shower block so you didn’t get water running in from ‘next door’ and it drained away pretty quickly. The tent field is patrolled by a warden 24hrs a day and the two wardens on duty during our stay were friendly and polite (when asking us to take down the gazebo we had put up). Haven provide a code to those having paid for camping/caravan pitches to access the toilet and showers, however not once during our stay were the doors actually locked.
The near sheer drop around the tent field was a bit alarming and would maybe benefit from some form of fencing? We didn’t have our children with us but if had had we wouldn’t have been able to take our eyes off them for a second with such a dangerous drop so close by. The view from the tent field is second to none with views across the bay to Filey and Scarborough beyond although this does lead to some interesting weather – we half expected to have been blown into Filey when we awoke on Sunday morning!
We didn’t use the swimming pool on the site but did use most other facilities and did notice the ‘shoe-mountain’ that other reviewers have mentioned outside the door to the pool and found this a bit odd? The shop was well stocked – we had planned to go to Morrisons but didn’t feel we needed to after visiting the shop. Prices were a little more than the supermarkets but not much more. The entertainment was good at night although didn’t really correspond to what was suggested in the events guide. Drink prices in the bar were reasonable and the breakfast in the restaurant was good value for money - unlimited tea or coffee for £1.95 – although the staff on the breakfast servery would have benefited from some happy pills! The access to the beach is very steep but well worth the effort (and there is a free ‘train’ running every 10mins for those who can’t handle the hill), we spent all day Saturday on the beach.
We would recommend the site to others and would definitely stay again. Keep an eye out for Haven’s ‘Freedom Trail’ loyalty club too - you could bag some discounted stays and even free nights camping!

MUCH better than last year - about a million per cent - all the touring pitches on both areas are now hardstanding, so no mud at all - we weren't going to come again after last years horrible, deep mud, but I am glad we did. All the pitches are clearly marked out, and there are less pitches overall so there are no crammed-on-like-sardines caravans, as there were last year. - There is plenty of clearly designated room for parking in front of your caravan, on the widened roads, but sadly, you get the selfish people parking their cars on empty pitches. There are many other improvements around the park. Great place - decent, large showers with plenty of hot water, and lovely walks. Surprisingly reasonably priced, too, out of the school hols.

Just spent a weekend at reighton sands for six pounds using a caravan club voucher and were really impressed with the improvements made to the touring pitches. After coming here last year in mud resembling Glastonbury the new gravel hardstandings are a welcome addition! Pitch space also feels more generous now the hasrdstandings mark out the pitches. Came to try out new porch awning but far too windy to put up but a tip with the new hardstandings you'll need some sturdy steel pegs for awnings now. Showers and toilets clean and although in short bursts water nice and hot. New outdoor lazerquest looks fun but didn't use this time. Entertainment really good with a fun magic show which made a change from the usual bands etc. Some good deals at the site supermarket which is nice to see. Food in cafe bar reasonable and breakfast for £2.95 was good value. Filey nearby is a lovely little town especially the park which has had a fab playground redevelopment and a trip to Coopland bakery for yummy pasties is a family tradition for us1 Reighton Sands is a nice park for families with older kids (mine are 9 & 12) as the park complex is small enough to allow them a bit of freedom without worrying where they've got to.

Just got back from this site and having stayed on the sister site blue dolphin I was a little surprised with reighton sands not being as bad as expected.
The site is very open so if its windy be aware, the wind was very strong while we were there and could have caused problems with the awning.
Pitches are hard standing for caravans and motor homes, but only very few were even, so arrive early to get a good pitch.
Toilets and showers are not the best, very dated and not as clean as I would have liked (keep your flip flops on and you will be ok)
No waste water drainage anywhere to be seen, when we asked the staff where we should put our waste water, we were told to use the chemical waste area or find a grate somewhere on the park and empty it there, what!
The other on site facilities were ok, kids park very good, evening entertainment good for the kids, entertainment team excellent putting lots of effort in to their work so well done to them. My daughter loved Ned, she was over the moon with excitement when he waved goodbye to here as we left.
Didn't stay for adults so I cant comment, bar area grubby, looked like it needed a good clean, doesn't look like the site have a window cleaner either
Pool was a decent size but again didn't look like it had been cleaned from the day before, it opened at 9am, we were there for 10am but with the look of the filth on the floor of the pool you would have thought we arrived at the end of the day.
The shop was well stocked with the prices just a little bit more than at home, would we go back again probably just to see my daughters face light up to see Ned and his gang. We paid £45 for five nights so really you get what you pay for.
I must say I am a member of the caravan club and have probably been spoilt with the excellent clean facilities they provide so please don't let my review put you off reighton sands.

We have just returned from a weeks camping at this site and I have been to several haven sites in the past and reighton sands appears to be the 'poor relation' in comparison!
The pitching area is on a hill and it is almost impossible to find a level area to pitch your tent, on top of this the area was extremely overcrowded and during the weekend period it felt more like a festival camping area than a family one. With tents randomly crammed in every available space. In some cases not only too close for comfort, but in my opinion also to close for safety.
Putting together what the site has stated on this review, with my own experiences, I would say that it appears that the area has been fenced off not to protect grass from car damage as has been stated, but to increase the number of tents the area can hold by removing cars to a designated area around the pitch!
Aside from the sheer number of tents allocated to the pitch, the site also used the 'new road' area around the pitch to house static caravans which were not in use and blocked the entire road in areas forcing cars to drive on the grassed areas!
In contrast to the previous reviewer who referred to the 'hardstanding' as a good thing in terms of caravanning - in terms of tenting this was a bit of a problem, which I imagine will worsen. This new improved hardstanding, is nothing more than loose stones which have also been placed around the fenced off area for tents to make the 'road' around the enclosure - these have already at what is the very beginning of the season been kicked and thrown upon the grassed area for pitching your tent!
Although the toilets and showers appeared to be cleaned regularly - they were of poor standard. The female showers had one toilet which was out of order during the entire weeks stay and one small sink with only a cold water tap and no mirror,(there was plenty of hot water and mirrors in the separate toilet area on the other side of the building) the showers themselves had a similar design to toilet cubicles with each shower basin connected to the other with a raised tiled area to the same height as the basins. This means that the water from the adjoining cubicles ran under and through into your shower basin - I don't think I am alone in saying that sharing showering water with strangers is not what the majority of campers want from their holiday! Also the main door to the female showers had not been fitted and was two big for the opening, leaving a rather cold and constant draught when showering!
There were plenty of sinks for pot washing and plenty of hot water, although only two of the sinks were covered. It did not rain much when I was there but I imagine if you are not so lucky then it may not only be the pots that get soaked. Unless maybe you leave them in the sinks to be washed by the rain! :)
During my stay their was a bit of an issue over freezer blocks, on taking the blocks to the shop to be placed in the freezer for the first time, I was informed this was a complimentary service with no charge. I commented on this being a good thing as most places have a small charge- when I returned to collect the blocks the shop decided that they were going to charge 99p for each block! Although I did speak to the manager about this one and he agreed that what worked out at £4.95 per day for me was excessive and no charge was made. I have no clue what the official charging is!
Although as stated the road to the beach is very steep, it is worth the effort. You can walk along the beech to filey from the site and it is a beautiful area!
The staff were friendly and helpful, the entertainment was everything you get with haven - you either like it or hate it - and we liked it :)
The pool along with the rest of the facilities is not really up to standard in comparison to other haven sites, it was small and quite shallow and they have a rule of removing footware before going into the changing area as this is part of the pool area, although this itself is obviously appropriate, there is no area to sit so you can dry off and put your footware back on again except the floor on what is a walkway into the pool and showbar from the arcades!
