This is our second visit, we go there to meet friends and visit Whipsnade zoo, which is a 10min drive from this site. The staff are very friendly and the facilities maintained well. However unfortunately this year they had packed people in so that units were right next to each other and cars parked in front. Our friends in a tent couldn't sleep due to hearing every little noise from their neighbours. The facilities couldn't cope with the number of people and there were long queues. I hope this was just a one off and they won't over stretch themselves again. I will visit again next year but if they cram people in like this again we shall not return. There is a children's play area at the entrance to the site but due to where we were pitched it wasn't easy for the kids to use it as we couldn't keep an eye on them. Also there is no path, it's all grass on the rear field so kids run around and you need to be careful of cars, some aren't always going as slow as they should be.

Great site, visited over the bank holiday weekend. Enjoyed it so much we opted for an extra night. The owner makes this one of the best sites around, he's super chilled guy, very attentive to all visitors.
Play area was of outstanding quality, facilities second to none. We will certainly be back, it'll be interesting to watch this site develop.
I think the owner and team are missing a trick not having a farm shop, selling milk, eggs local produce etc as well as those things you forget on your camping trip. Not sure why they don't have a few chickens pocking around, I am sure the eggs would sell every day, PYO eggs anyone :).

The driveway up is very rutted, the hardstanding is just big hard rough gravel and the potable water tap is slooooow - a quarter of an hour to fill a 40l Aquaroll.
The downsides having been said, there were more than enough upsides to compensate:
1) A very friendly welcome and a very visible campsite manager who made it clear that his guests' interests were foremost.
2) Wonderful views.
3) Very good Pick Your Own a mile or so away.
4) Wonderful walk up Ivinghoe Beacon.
5) Nice pub in the village (Rose & Crown), but their food hours aren't necessarily what they say they are!
6) Good children's play area.
All in all, if you're in a tent it's a great site. If you're in a van, it's still great but less so!

This was our second visit, after a period of mixed weather. The site was dry. We stayed a Saturday during school holidays. It was pretty empty when we arrived and filled up during the day. We rented the Karsten tent (again). Once again we were very happy with the tent.
The facilities were clean with lots of hot water and toilet paper. There was a bit of mud in the showers but this was quickly cleaned up. Also one or two cubicles ran out of paper but this had been stocked again for next visit. We did have to queue a bit for facilities during peak hours. Covered washing up and freezers for ice blocks. Excellent fire pits to hire and dry wood to buy. Great children's play area. The owner / staff were very welcoming and are a visible and friendly presence on-site. There is a ban on any kind of music on site.
The site could do with extra rubbish disposal. It definitely should have on-site recycling bins, for glass / cans at the least; and extra bins for general waste – on both visits the rubbish disposal has been really overflowing. As it is next to the washing up and freezers, it is definitely the major short fall on the site.
This site has a great location - beautiful scenery and villages. It can get a bit breezy as it is fairly exposed on the top of the hill. This time, we enjoyed College Lake on the road to Tring. It is a nature reserve / bird watchers paradise, nice place for a walk. The site has a beautiful view over the beacon. It’s lovely sitting watching the sun go down – and other people walking the hills.
The karsten tent was pitched near the facilities and the playground area, in the lower field. It has a bit of a slope and I think the pitch position for this rented tent could be improved.
A really negative point was the early start some other peoples' kids made on Sunday morning – the Karsten is pre-pitched next to the playframe. This was well before 8 am – although the owner had put up signs asking for that area not to be used before 8 am. Also as the Karsten was pitched near a route out of the site, people did tend to walk really close to the tent – pretty much in the guys – pretty inconsiderate. A windbreak might help steer others away and make this less intrusive.
Overall, this is a very kid-friendly site with a nice atmosphere, with just a few draw backs. The site is a large site with a lot of guests. No electrics in the tents, lots of kids. It won’t be for everyone. But we loved it.

Super site. Perched above Ivinghoe with views of the Beacon.
Good value £8 per night. No extras on top. Showers and toilets top notch - might get busy when the site is more full.
Fridges for visitors, always handy especially if touring.
There are 2 young guys selling fire wood and hiring raised fires. Didn't ask the rice but plenty took them up on the offer. Same guys kindly told me the short cut to the village pub - Rose and Crown. Well worth a visit as the staff are very friendly, food good and beer good - take a torch.

Wonderful site, with incredible views and clean toilets. It's lovely to be able to rent a fire pit and have it delivered to your tent along with wood and kindling. We've been several times in the last few years, and had a brilliant time each visit.
Staff and owner always hard at work around the site keeping things nice. On my most recent visit I found fridges and freezers I hadn't previously thought to ask about!

Stayed for one Saturday night in July 2013 as not too far from home and wanted a break. There is no obvious reception area but we had a friendly welcome from the campsite owner who was around quite a bit. He put us on the field, near the black silos, which was much nicer than the hard standing areas.
Toilets and showers clean. EHU up to date. Nice play area for children. Not noisy at night despite there being a lot of people. Good walks nearby for dogs; we went to the Ivinghoe Beacon which we enjoyed. A lot of campers had braziers which looked like a fun thing to do.
The campsite advertises that they have 80 pitches but when we were there, there were a lot of tents in the lower field by the road (Duke of Edinburgh or some such thing), and there must have been far more than 80 and facilities where consequently stretched; had to queue for toilets on several occasions, there seemed too few for the amount of people.
We felt that the campsite would be good for groups as it had a very relaxed vibe and we would consider going back with family for a few nights but not on our own.

We went as a group with 10 adults and 8 children (aged 7 months to 7 years) and had a fantastic time.
Good clean shower block, plenty of space to run round, good playground, lovely area and, on one of the hottest weekends of the summer, a lovely breeze.
Very well drained even after a whole night of torrential rain. Oh and no midges!
Possibly the friendliest and most helpful site owner and staff I've met. Already planning to head back again next summer.

Just returned yesterday from this wonderful campsite. Me, the missus and three kids, 11, 9 & 7 were there for 3 nights, Thurs on. Firstly thanks to Chloe for changing our booking with no extra charge.
We pulled up and there's a sign with a phone number on if no staff are obvious. A quick call to the number and the owner pulled round the corner in his buggy having been called on his walkie-talkie. A very friendly welcome and escorted to a suitable spot on the top field. He explained he was expecting a busy weekend and placed us as best as he could with a flat pitch and a beautiful view.
Kids went off to the play area and we pitched the tent. Ample facilities, lovely warm showers - not many of them with a full site but I left mine till a bit later (10ish) and they were clean and there was no queue.
A very safe area and the kids had a great time meeting new friends whilst we chilled out. The owner popped by at least once a day making sure everyone was ok. Will (his son) came around with fire pits, firestarter, kindling and bags of dry firewood (£5). Burns for about 2 hours. A great touch for the evening.
Local Ivinghoe village pub Rose & Crown a short walk across the farm - very accommodating but best to book if you want to eat. Good food & selection of well kept ale (Tring Ridgeway being the local beer from 4 miles away).
Overall, very happy and will be returning

We visited this site after a period of hot sunny weather. We had lovely sunshine as well as torrential thunderstorm on second night. We stayed Friday and Saturday during school holidays.
We rented the Karsten tent. We are two average sized adults and 2 little kids. The tent was very spacious - site also provided sleeping mats and small table and benches. It was a great tent - completely waterproof - with porch area, 2 or 3 sleeping pods and an awning. We needed to sit in the porch / under the awning during the evening storm. We were dry and happy. This tent was pitched near the facilities and the playground area.
The kids (6 and 3) loved the site - lots of open space, great climbing frame and swings, tennis court. Lots of informal football games. There was a lot of space so lots of older kids were running around and playing games (rounders, cricket etc) but this was not intrusive.
We did have to queue a bit for facilities during peak hours - this did not bother us.
The site is a large site with a lot of guests. There was enough space for this to be OK. It was quiet after 11 pm ish. The owner did go around and ask people to take their kids in. Another pitch was playing music - the owner very politely asked for this to stop (and I think he was right to do so as it could be quite intrusive for other guests).
It is fair to say that the road bordering the bottom field could be quite annoying if sensitive to noise and if pitched too close to it. Also planes do go overhead but we were not disturbed by it.
With so many people on site, there are of course always some people who don't respect that other people are on the site as well. I found the owner was very concerned that we'd had a good time and were happy. The boys / girls working on the site were also really pleasant.
The facilities were clean with lots of hot water and toilet paper. With the rain there was a bit of mud in the showers on the second morning, but this was quickly cleaned up.
Also this site has a great location - really close to Whipsnade zoo, and beautiful scenery and villages. We also enjoyed the community café in Irvinghoe village old school building and the park and playground in the village, fruit picking, plus the Grand Union canal and Junction pub on the road to Tring.
We loved it.
