I was looking for a site suitable to stay for a Sunday night in a rented motor home prior to returning it to a local rental company. Town Farm fitted the bill perfectly.

The owner was very welcoming both on the phone and when showing me to my site. He was a visible and friendly presence on-site for most of the day making it feel secure.

Shower/toilet block looked small for the size of the site, but was spotlessly clean. Good level gravel parking with electrical hook-up.

Fantastic site for viewing a sunset against the backdrop of the beacon with lots of walking routes into the hills.

Felt a bit like organised chaos when we arrived but Charles is lovely and soon got us sorted and you really felt that nothing was too much trouble. We stopped here as it was close to where we had hired our motorhome and it made an ideal stopover before taking it back the next morning. The toilets were clean but the floors soon got very dirty and wet (it was raining) from the campers muddy shoes also there are no hand drying facilities in the ladies and as there are were only two toilets in our block I suspect when it is busy you may have to queue. One shower in the ladies otherwise uni-sex with private cubicles or outdoor showers. Washing machine and dryer, dishwashing outside. Very family orientated with a lovely play park and goal posts, plenty of outdoor space but it is a working farm and you have to respect this. Very popular with families and their tents. Usual chemical disposal point and fresh water, no proper facility for grey water drain off but happy for us to just let it go on the ground. You can walk across the fields to the local pub.

This is one of our favourite local campsites that we have been back to many times, although it can get quite windy as it is fairly exposed on the top of the hill. Good facilities, kept clean even when the site is full. Lovely flat grassy pitches and excellent fire pits to hire and dry wood to buy. Great children's play area and very friendly owner, Charles. Our only quibble is no on-site recycling bins, so we had to carry our empties home with us.

I recently stayed at Town Farm for a weekend with our three kids and 4 other families. It was a brilliant weekend, and a lot of that was down the welcome and attitude of the owner. On discovering that we had 5 large tents (mine is a big Sunncamp Haven 800 with porch) he happily suggested we stick them in a big circle around one of his fire pits. So no need to pitch in a designated space, plenty of communal fun and socialising, loads of bbq'ing and a lovely 'wild camping' feel. The only thing missing was a totem pole!

We chose a spot on the far side of the site, away from the play area, which was spacious and flat. The kids loved it, of which there were 12, and ranged from 2 years old up to 10. The play area is great for 4 year olds upwards, and next time we might camp in the same field so that we can let them play without needing to send an adult off to supervise. The field with the play area is nearer the road, but it's not intrusive, though busy during the day. It's also on a slight slope which might discourage some people. There was so much space around us however, that the kids played around the tents more than the play area, with no roads on site to worry about either. In fact the nearest other tent was about 20 yards away.

We had brilliant weather, so walked everyone up Ivinghoe Beacon to see the kites and gliders, and enjoy the wonderful views. It's a cracking view but an easy walk, and the 4 year olds happily wombled up along with everyone else. Sitting as it does at the foot of the Chilterns, the views across the Vale of Aylesbury are truly panoramic.

Facilities were spotless, hot water plentiful, and no queues anywhere. The owner and his family regularly popped by to check that everything was going well, and was always cheerful.

There is a ban on any kind of music on site, which normally I'd be a bit miffed about, but it really didn't matter as we all so busy talking round the fire.

Ivinghoe village is just down the road, and we had a couple of visits to the local, the Rose and Crown, a lovely pub that was really welcoming and had a couple of really good beers on tap and was very kid friendly (they happily let all ours sit inside and entertain the locals). On Sunday we visited Ivinghoe windmill which is owned by the NT, and were able to climb up and see the insides of a restored workings, complete with fascinating talks form the volunteers there.

The only thing I can think of that was even vaguely negative was the early start some other peoples' kids made on the Saturday morning, though it was probably my snoring that woke them anyway, and I'm really struggling to think of anything else negative. So I'd recommend it if you fancy an easy going site, (with no EHU for tents), but a lovely, kid-friendly atmosphere. My family and friends can't wait to go back.

Very happy stay at this site over the May Bank holiday weekend. Quite busy, as expected, but facilities seemed to cope well with few queues. Great views and very helpful owner. Fire pits available and a bit of a must at a reasonable additional cost!

Lots of lovely places to visit in the area although we didn't get to check out any of the local pubs as the weather was BBQ perfect!

Would certainly return again.

We revisited this site (with friends this time) two years after our last visit. Back then we enjoyed the site very much but saw it as a work in progress as Charles, the friendly proprietor, was still perfecting the facilities.

The site is now complete with two full toilet/shower blocks, an extended kids' play area (now with swings and slides etc. ). The facilities have effectively been doubled compared to 2011. The site is still as beautiful as ever, and Charles doesn't let it get too full. Busy, certainly on a warm bank holiday weekend, but not overcrowded.

This time there were no problems with hot water running out, and I don't think anybody queued long for a shower. The scenery is stunning as you are in the middle of a working farm with lovely fields around you, with the Chiltern hills close by. Ivinghoe Beacon is just over a mile away, and Pitstone windmill closer. For those who want to go walking there are numerous places to go.

There's no on-site shop but it's not really a problem as there's a convenience store within walking distance and Tring has a Tesco.

The site offers loads of space for kids and adults to run about. Fire baskets are available for hire, and Charles is about as friendly as you can get. He periodically drives around in his little buggy to ask if everything is OK, in a very non-intrusive manner.

Thoroughly recommended site for all types of unit. There are grass pitches for tents, and hook-ups for motorhomes and caravans with some hardstanding pitches.

One tiny gripe is that the chalk road around which one drives to get to the top field is very bumpy and our car grounded on the bumps. No damage done but it's worth noting.

We had an off road motorbike trip booked for the May bank holiday weekend and needed a campsite near Dunstable. We were looking for somewhere that allowed campfires and this campsite fitted the bill perfectly! The owner could not have been more helpful, friendly and attentive driving round every few hours to check everyone was ok. The showers and toilets were of an excellent standard and despite the bank holiday being busy, we never had to queue and they were always clean.

This is an excellent campsite for families, with a fantastic play area and a lovely ambiance. Its also great for folks with dogs with great off lead dog walks nearby and a walk to the top of Ivinghoe Beacon and the ridgeway. Everyone had a personal welcome from Charles who clearly really cares that everyone has a great time. The fire pits are £5 and the wood is also £5, having a campfire and looking out over the Chilterns on a lovely warm clear evening was just perfect.

10 out of 10 from us and our dogs, we will be back!

Just back for 2nights at Town Farm Campsite. We were staying for New Year and weren't disappointed. We had great views of all the fireworks around the area as the site is high up. It was a bit scary with the gales on the first evening, but this would not stop us going back again. Charles was most friendly and informative. The facilities were clean and fresh too. We will certainly go back. Definitely.

What a fantastic site, fabulous views in all directions. Quite a lot of people here for September but plenty of room so not overlooked or disturbed! Excellent facilities, very clean toilet block. Children can be kept busy all day with great playground and tennis courts. We stayed on Hardstanding electric hookup of which there are about 20, there are also several other electric hookups non Hardstanding and a Massive field for non electric pitching. Visited Mead open farm while here great day out. Recommend!

What a cracking campsite. Now, this will not appeal to every camper. This is a working farm, there is no on-site shop, and there are no EHUs for tents (only for limited hardstanding places).

However, the views over the Vale of Aylesbury and up to Ivinghoe Beacon are superb. And Charles the owner was a great host, attentive without being intrusive, he intelligently segregated pitch types, so that groups were in one field, youngsters in another area, and families with young kids in another. We were pitched in the family field, and expected the noise to die down at 11-ish, but all was quiet by 9:30.

The site is right at the foot of Ivinghoe Beacon, above the village, so is quite exposed. Consequently the winds can get up quite a bit, so you will need to be thorough in your pegging, and you must expect some buffeting. However, it is worth it for the amazing views.

As other reviewers noted, you can hire a firepit for £5, and buy a sack of logs for £5. We gave it a go, and had a whale of a time grilling sausages and roasting marshmallows. And to put the cherry on the cake we had a string of hot air balloons sail overhead at sunset. Needless to say, add this to the excellent play area, and the kids were in seventh heaven.

The new showers, loos and dishwashing facilities all have lashings of very hot water and were nice and clean, despite the site being quite full when I was there. Its also worth noting the loos had toilet paper and soap dispensers.

There is no shop on site, however the village post office sells a few basics, and there is a larger minimart approx a mile further.

The only negatives from my perspective was that at some point during the night airplanes from Luton started operations in the vincinty, although the noise was not intolerable. Also I was not aware of any facility to re-freeze freezepacks which would become awkward over a longer stay.

All in all, if you appreciate basic but very well run campsites, this comes highly recommended. I for one will be back.
