Just visited Masons for the first time. This site is exceptional in its location. The site is sat at the bottom of a valley next to the river Wharfe. The facilities although basic are very clean and the staff very friendly.

There are two pubs very near and food was to a good standard. The Real Ales were fantastic. Every morning a shop arrives with provisions and papers.

There is a massive field next to the site which all campers can use for games/sports which was used readily by the children who visited the site.

The site has the real essence of camping as it should be, so I will be visiting again just as soon as I can. Lovely!

We were really disappointed by this site, and only stopped one of the two nights we had booked and paid for.

The location and setting is ideal but for us that is as far as it went. The facilities are old. We chose not to use the showers! The worst thing about this site though was the size of the allocated pitch and the crowded nature of the site. We could barely fit our tent onto the pitch, which left no room at all around the pitch. The neighbouring pitches were all the same and with the number of groups and cars etc on site it felt like camping in an NCP car park.

Masons Farm is indeed a beautiful site ideally placed in the Yorkshire Dales. It's a great family site with access to the river Wharfe for paddling, fishing and boating. Plenty of walks from the site itself and allsorts of wildlife to be seen. Whilst there we met plenty of people who return every year.

The owners are young, enthusiastic and very helpful. There are provisions for recycling on site as well as stands for barbeques to protect the ground, and fire pits. A mobile shop from Burnsall visits the site daily with a good range of basics.

The only downside to this site for me, has to be the shower facilities which left rather a lot to be desired. I think they are in desparate need of a complete overhaul along with the toilet block. They were cleaned on a daily basis but I'm afraid they're beyond cleaning.

However, it was such a lovely site that I would return and I wish the owners well for the future.

Just returned from a weekend at Mason's and feel I need to leave a review as we were really disappointed with our stay.

We arrived on Friday with plans to stay until Monday. The family we were camping with could only stay for two out of the three nights we had booked and despite leaving a message on the owners answerphone we was told it was their policy that they needed 14 days notice of a cancellation and therefore they were not entitled to a refund. We accepted this as it is peak season but were a little upset as to the way it was handled.

We had booked two large pitches with EHU. The pitch we were allocated had a large tree in the middle of it which made it impossible to fit on our tent away from the edge of the road and keep within the boundary we were shown. We asked if we could move along a little but were told we couldn't as we had to stay away from the next pitch as the grass on that pitch needed to rest! Not the best of start to our weekend away! As more and more campers arrived we found ourselves surrounded by large groups of campers with up to ten tents in groups literally pitched on top of each other. We asked what the campsites Health and Safety policy was only to be told by the young girl pitching everyone that people could pitch how they wanted and she wasn't sure of any such policy. I found this to be a major fire risk and extremely worrying.

The noise on the night time went on well after the 11.30 no noise rule. Kids were running riot from 5.30 in the morning.

The site was so overcrowded that there was absolutely no space for our children to play or kick a ball.

I was under the impression that the site had 40 pitches, but we counted 69 tents, 20 gazebo's and a handful of caravans.

On a more positive note the toilet facilities although slightly outdated did not seem to be overcrowded and we did not once have to wait for toilets or the showers.

We were so disappointed we decided to cut our stay short and packed up and went home. Whilst everyone was packing up the owners were cutting the grass around us!

Such a shame as we had great hopes and four very excited children who couldn't wait to visit Mason's left very disappointed.

Unfortunately, after a number of years being the venue for our group of families to camp, this weekend will be our last at Masons – mainly because of the facilities available to tent campers, especially when the additional camping field is open.

Positives : Perfect location, good circular walks from site – no need to use the car, couple of pubs nearby, river running past the site for kids to play in.

Negatives : Toilet & washing facilities cannot cope. Expensive. For example, in the gents 2 urinals, 3 toilets, 2 sinks (and my wife concurred – ladies similar setup). Washing up facilities : 5 indoor sinks, showers old & uncontrollable. But not only are the facilities inadequate for the number of users, they are in need of a refit : cracked sinks, toilet seats that fall off, no hot water, open drains in the toilet block, no windows therefore cubicles dark in the day, but lights cannot be switched on,

We have been coming here since the new owners opened, and although excellent then, no updating has happened.

I know there are restrictions imposed by the National Park Authority on the number of days the overspill field can be used, and maybe the owners face the same restrictions on development, but this does now need to be explored, and not used as an excuse any longer.

With the prices charged for non-electric camping, I think the owners need to work a bit harder for their money, and spend some of it to give campers an improved stay. I don’t own or run a campsite, but I do camp regularly (from certificated sites to full facility sites), and I can see when campers & facilities are being neglected.

Great site in a beautiful location which is clearly the draw for people using this place, as there are some negatives. Our family have visited this site for many years, so whilst acknowledge the current owners have made some positive changes since they took over, this site is definitely moving towards a site for campers rather than caravanners.

We saw caravans tucked into some really small and inappropriate spaces whilst tents seemed to have the pick of the biggest spaces. Other negative is that its a complete nightmare trying to get hold of the owners on the phone, has taken as long as 5 days to get a call back, which must surely lose them business.

When site is full the shower, toilet and washing up facilities are not adequate so be prepared to queue. The site is expensive, and we were still charged the £5 early arrival fee even though we only checked in 15 mins before the usual 1pm arrival which seemed harsh, given we were staying for 5 nights. Our parents won't come here any more, and understand why it has lost its appeal for them.

For us though, its ideal. Having a young family, the kids can play out all day, often in the river and usually make loads of friends when they are here plus only takes us an hour or so to get there. Both the Craven Arms and New Inn are in walking distance and both offer reasonable food and great beers and ales, a real bonus when it is tipping it down.

Loads of lovely walks, we like to walk to Grassington, just be careful about the bus times for coming back into Burnsall unless you want the full 11/12 mile walk both ways.

Saw lots of people coming back with take away pizzas, which understand they got from a cafe in Burnsall which offers the pizza take away service on Friday and Saturday evenings.

Overall, this is a lovely place to stay, yes there is room for improvement, but if you want some quality family time, this could be a good choice.

Just had a cracking weekend at Mason's, weather was great which meant the kids spent half the time in the river, paddling, fishing and floating on air beds.

Superb Dales setting with plenty of easy walks on hand for the kids. 2 really good pubs on the doorstep, both with great beer and friendly and welcoming staff. Good friendly atmosphere at Mason's, although 'site full' signs were up so very busy, and there were often queues for toilets, showers and washing up.

The site was clean and well maintained and all pitches are flat. Despite lots of signs up saying 'quiet time after 11.30pm' there were 1 or 2 large groups partying well beyond this and didn't appear to be challenged by staff.

A delivery van from 'the shop on the green' at Burnsall arrived at around 8 o'clock each morning bringing lots of tasty supplies including fresh bread and pastries. A great weekend and we will return

I love this site! First time I have been and we will definitely be returning. It was very busy, but not cramped and there was a sign saying full so no more people could come. The front field where the ehu was did look more squashed together than us though!

Only 3 toilets in ladies but although there was sometimes a queue it was never a really long queue, plenty of hot water, free showers, always kept clean.

We got a pitch by the river which was perfect for the kids, loads of room for them to run around and play and also a big area at the end for football etc. Eggs and some basic camping supplies sold at the reception and also a van comes around in the morning selling sweets, papers, bacon etc.

Lovely flat pitches, friendly welcome and a gorgeous part of the country.

Bit expensive but worth it in my opinion.

 Lazy days on the river

Had a great time at this site. Possibly one of the most expensive we've stayed at. £22 =2 adults & 2 kids as you're not getting anything above what others can give, however, that said, the location is second to none.

The owners are friendly and showed us to a nice pitch and to say how busy the site was - it was surprisingly quiet. There are blue buckets for recycling purposes and wire basket to keep your BBQ's of the ground supplied if you need them. Fire pits are allowed - but the owners like to check them out first.

The river runs at the bottom of the site and is tranquil enough for kids to play and fish in. The weather was glorious - which meant we didn't see much of ours all week - only coming back when hungry!

The site isn't overly big and was super busy all the time. There is a second field, which apparently can only be used for 28 days, so with this in mind, I can imagine the showers could get a little busy.

A delivery van calls in the morning with newspapers, bread and other supplies you may need - which is handy as the nearest shop is in Burnsall.

Didn't go the the 2 pubs nearby but plenty did. Pie night is Wednesday and steak night is Friday, which I believe are good value for money.

Walked to Bolton Abbey - which was further than we anticipated - but was a nice afternoon. The number 74 bus back to Appletreewick brought us right back to the site - but check on time of service as these are limited.

All in all we had a great time and would most certainly go back.

No doubt a beautiful situation but the prices are high for the facilities. 3 toilet cubicles. 3 sinks. (I guess the same is true for the gents) Showers are very poor.

This site really needs some money spent on it. I have never been on a more cramped site. It felt like we had to duck down for the next pitches swingball.

There is no one way system so the kids don't know which way the cars are heading. The owners are friendly and know the area well.
