Loved this site. Started and ended our 2 week tour of England at this site.
Gareth the owner is very helpful and nothing is a problem. Hadn't booked for our return but he managed to get us on as he doesn't cram the site (A good thing)
A fire is £6. 50 and additional logs at £6 per bag Great for toasting Marshmallows which they sell in the shop with skewers. Go for the BBQ pack great value and loads of food.
Site is well kept with just enough loo's showers are also good. Woke up each day to sound of hens in the awning welcome visitors. Dog friendly and not to strict.
Will return again soon and take friends cannot recommend this site enough.

Found this site a bit of a conundrum?? We think it's only fair to mention, prior to our review, when we arrived, the site was already very wet after a prolonged spell of heavy rain.
We cannot fault this site's location, it is well situated for our family, who like to use a campsite as a base for getting around, Keswick, close by has everything you need, just up the road in the neighbouring village are a couple of reasonable pubs. Busiest one shows all sports, food is questionable, and expensive for what it was! Pubs are a good 15 mins walk.
We had little contact with the site owner, but he seemed pleasant and approachable.
So what was wrong? Despite previous reviews, we have to say the thing that let this site down were the showers/toilets. 3 communal showers, but once you were showered, however long it took you to dry/get dressed, made the wait for a shower for the next person that much longer, and why was there not something to stand on to keep your feet dry while you did the rest?
Toilets? Again, despite previous, they were poor, and supplemented by a couple of portaloos. Please, this is 2011, portaloos on a campsite??!
So to sum up, 4 star prices for 2 star facilities?? £25 a night, bit rich!

Great site in beautiful location.
Stayed here for 2 weeks with kids during the Scottish summer holidays. Facilities basic but clean and adequate. Owners couldn't do enough to help and made us feel very welcome.
Access to lovely walks and close to Keswick's attractions. Real farm feel with chicks on site and horse in next field. Beautiful views from all pitches. Owner supplies brazier and wood for campfires at night.
Definitely going back here.

We spent 3 nights over a dry weekend. Received a warm welcome from the campsite owner, who is a very nice guy, always helpful.
We stayed in a tent with EHU, next to very small stream, but enough to keep the kids busy! A working farm, sometimes the chickens run around the tent. In the morning, I really enjoy the sheeps sound. There is a small groceries selling basic needs. The bonus point is campfire. In the evening the owner will drive around campsite selling logs.
This is a children friendly campsite. During our stay, there were kids organised kids party at the barn. My kids were looking forward to join this party everyday.
There are plenty of walks around this area. We drove to climb the hills at Newlands Pass and Catbells Summit. There is public footpath from the campsite too.
There was only one drawback, number of toilets and showers. In the morning we had to queue for toilet and shower but the rest of time was ok. Maybe because the campsite was full at that time. Only 3 showers sharing ladies/men, 2 toilets for ladies, 1 toilet for men and another toilet sharing ladies/men. I think it should be fine during off peak period. However the toilets and showers were clean.
Overall, we really enjoy our stay at Lanefoot Farm.

We really enjoyed our stay at Lanefoot farm for 3 nights. As others have mentioned, it's a working farm with the addition of hens and their chicks literally walking into the tens (so keep doors closed). Kids really enjoyed them though as well as billy the horse.
The camping area is split into 3 fields, not two as others suggested. The meadow field looks very nice, but I don't think had ehu. There is a large main field with some electric I think used by vans. This was on quite a slope and larger tents were in the middle. Lovely views from the back of the field though.
We were located in a small field between the two. Only room for 5 or 6 tents, 2 pitches with EHU. All flat pitches. A small stream separated from main field which kept the kids amused and a good place to make new friends.
Toilets and Showers were fine. Not many, but we never had to queue. Nice little shop on site which must make a fortune from the kids visting for sweets.
The campfires on the site are great. Logs not cheap at £6 a bag, but worth it as it makes the evening so much better and we sat up til midnight with the fire as the weather was excellent for the duration of our visit. BBQ packs available to order are good value.
Great location for exploring the lakes and keswick is only 5 mins by car away.
We will be back definitely. A real find this site.
The only things I would change would be a small park for the kids and maybe washing facilities for clothes.

A great little farm site set about 1/2 mile off the A66 which offers a variety of pitches at a very reasonable £7. 50 pppn. A warm welcome on arrival from the lady in the reception / shop who pointed me in the direction of where to pitch got things off to a good start.
I managed to get a nearly level pitch at the top of the 'Open Field', which I was thankful for on what turned out to be a very wet weekend, although after nearly two days of constant rain, there were very few areas that I would class as being unpitchable.
Nicely revamped toilet facilities seemed a bit lacking on first glance, but then no-one ever had to queue, and the communal showers which were at the far end of the wash-up area seemed a bit odd to start with, but then your realise that this is a site where the owners have adapted what buildings they have to let the site blend into the surroundings.
In all, a very enjoyable site to stay on.

Very friendly and welcoming, the camp site is clean and so is the toilets and showers. There is always plenty of hot water for both washing pots and showers etc.
The chickens running around are an added bonus, a really good farm camp site with walks available on the door step.
There is a public house just a short walk away and not far from keswick, very close to lake for sailing and rowing plenty of shops close by and a pencil museum, mining museum etc.
Lots of cafes too. Thanks for a great holiday. Hope to come again.

This farm camp site is in a great location - very picturesque and great for walking. It is also walking distance (about half a mile) from a small village with a nice pub and a couple of restaurant/bars which can help to while away the evening.
The pitch we stayed on was a little sloping, but there were level pitches in an alternative but less attractive field. The owner is friendly and very helpful and showed us to our pitch.
The camp fires at night gave a great atmosphere to the site. The toilet and showers were a bit limited and the toilets a little bit basic (like the old fashioned outdoor lavatories but with a basin for hand-washing).
On the amenities list it states that there are laundry facilities, but this was a service wash rather than a washing machine. There is a 20p charge for freezing ice packs.

A beautifully located campsite in a great area for walking the surrounding fells. But, please, don't go if you want a flat site with a play area, clubhouse and heated floors in the washrooms.
It's a working farm with two camping fields (both gently sloping) and the reception, small shop showers and toilets are set centrally between the fields. Chickens roam amongst the campers and sheep are in an adjacent field. The showers are free and hot though you may have to wait a few minutes at busy times. Similarly with the wash up. All the facilities are kept spotlessly clean and stocked with soap and toilet paper by the owners. In wet weather, the drying room is a real asset.
The shop is small but well stocked with the basics - the barbecue pack is excellent, £12 for enough meat for 4. The logs for the fires are a little expensive but they burn well and the owner throws in some paper and a little kindling. Anyway, £6 to sit out round a fire until bedtime is very reasonable.
The owners are friendly, helpful and always available. Nothing is too much trouble and the site is very quiet (apart from the usual farm noises). The owners are strict about a lot of noise after 10pm (though sitting out having a quiet chat is fine).
Braithwaite is a 10 - 15 minute walk away along a very quiet country lane. That has three pubs (two of which I can definitely recommend for food and ale), a village shop and another larger and more commercialised campsite. Keswick is about 3 miles away - about 10 minutes in the car.
The area is superb walking country with at least two excellent walks from the campsite itself and the mountain biking centre in the Whinlatter Forest a short pedal away. Many more excellent walks are reachable within a 30 minute drive.
This is a very well run site for people who want to get out and enjoy the beautiful countryside.

We had a fantastic week at Lanefoot Farm. The kids really enjoyed seeing the farm animals, and there were plenty of gentle walks from the site.
It's about a 20 minute walk through the fields to the pretty village of Braithwaite, which has 3 pubs and a great little village shop (recommend the Coledale Inn for eating, but probably worth booking ahead)
The site owners were friendly and really helpful. They also never seemed to stop working - still cleaning the loos at 12. 30 at night!
I think there are two downsides to this site. Firstly, those camping in the field have to cross a public road to get to the loos and showers. It's a really quiet road, but it did make me a bit reluctant to let the kids roam as free as I usually would.
Secondly, the site is really under resourced on the washing/toilet front. There is only one washbasin, and only 3 ladies' loos (2 portaloos appeared during the week) I have to say, they were always clean and the 3 showers always had hot water, but my poor son wet himself one morning whilst queuing for the toilet.
There just aren't enough for the number of campers, especially at the weekend.
