This is our second visit to this campsite having loved the site and location last year.
The site is located approx 2. 5-3 miles from Keswick. We stayed at the bottom of the Meadow Field adjacent to the beck. This field has a small copse and areas left long with grasses and wildflowers. There are also two camping pods and shepherds hut available for hire. There are two further open fields located across the lane. However, beware of the midges! pack plenty of citronella candles and insect repellent!
Well stocked shop on site selling camping essentials and fresh eggs from the free range chickens. Toilets/showers are in converted barns/outbuildings and consist of two womens/two mens toilets at the main farmhouse plus two self contained washrooms in the Low Barn. There are three showers (always hot and free) plus a washbasin in a cubicle. Drying room with three washing up sinks. We only had to wait a few times for the loo/shower and that was over the second weekend but the site was full! Friendly helpful owners Gareth and Helen were always on hand.
One of the big pluses with the site is that you can have a campfire the farmer Gareth brings over an old car wheel in his wheelbarrow and the only condition is that you have to buy the logs from him - £5 per bag for kiln dried logs this is well worth doing and adds to the traditional camping experience!
The site is walkable/cycleable along the cycle path via Portinscale. The X4 bus to Cockermouth (hourly) can be caught outside Booths in Keswick and will stop outside the site; there are also ample taxis at reasonable prices. Its about ½ mile walk into Braithwaite where there are three pubs, all serving food we ate in The Royal Oak and were very impressed with the food.
This year the weather was significantly better - we climbed Skiddaw via Jenkin Hill (dont attempt it via Dodd Wood very hairy!), hired a Canadian canoe at Derwent Water and picnicked on one of the islands, cycled the Three Rivers Ride and did Go Ape at Grizedale Forest. We still have loads to do so will be going back next year!

My husband, dog and I recently spent a fabulous holiday here in the meadow field relaxing in front of our fire and listening to the neighbouring sheep - heaven. The facilities are fairly basic as you would expect in a farm but perfectly adequate and the location is superb.
The local pubs are a short, pretty stroll away along the lane and offer great food is you don't fancy cooking your own. The shepherd's hut looked great and we would certainly consider returning to stay in it out of season.

Myself, my husband and our dog Brucie stayed here from 7th-10th July. The site is really easy to find, and only a 10min drive from Keswick town centre.
We were told to pitch in the camping field, which I was slightly disappointed about as I had been hoping to stay in the meadow field. The views from the camping field soon cheered me up though, absolutely stunning! The pitches up there were fairly large, and not too sloping. When we arrived there were already quite a few tents there, and so we weren't left with much choice of pitch, but we found one we were happy with backing onto the trees.
The facilities are good for a working farm, a small shop at reception selling essentials (slightly pricey, but no more than expected) a couple of toilets near reception, a washing up area and drying room, with local information brochures and maps, 3 unisex showers (free with plenty of hot water!) and a single basin. There are also a couple of toilets in the barn, which is closer to the camping field for those night time trips! The facilities were cleaned regularly, and there was a mop and bucket by the showers so you could clean the floor of your muddy foot prints once you have finished (not everyone seems to do this unfortunately!) The only niggle I had is that there were no hand dryers or hand towels in order to dry your hands. This wasn't a problem whilst we were there as the weather was really warm, however I can't help but think it would annoy me if it were cold outside!
The site has a freezer to re-freeze your blocks, unfortunately they do charge 20p per block for the privilege!
The owner was very pleasant and helpful, he even helped me out with some milk of his own one morning, as the milk man had failed to deliver the milk he sells in the shop!
The site does allow camp fires and provides a wheel rim to have them in as long as you buy wood from them, £5 a bag, which will do one evening, this can make for quite an expense though if you have a fire every night!
We will definitely visit this site again, it is a great base for exploring the Keswick area, Derwent lake is lovely and the fells are on your doorstep! Next time though I will request a meadow field pitch to experience that side of the camp site.

We selected this campsite based on the other reviews - in particular of the showers and toilets.
I couldn't believe my eyes when we arrived. We had booked by phone. My first impression was it was overcrowded and scruffy. The camping fields are obviously left as nature intended, weeds and all. We ended up in the middle of the big field. I felt like I was crammed into someone's back garden rather than in the lake district. The slope was only just bearable - everything slipping down all the time. And of course when sleeping it was unavoidable to slide to the edge of the tent thus making the inner touch the outer and get wet. Boy did we have rain. With hindsight we should have pitched it the other way round.
Then for the toilets. Oh dear! Awful Awful Awful! 4 individual toilets for ladies each with a tiny sink with taps so large you can't get your hand in - let alone wash your face in it. Only one had hot water. One toilet had a grid in the middle of the floor which stank and had horrible looking gunky stuff between the slits. YUK. YUK. The floors were constantly wet and muddy. Have they never heard of doormats? The washing up was good - 3 sinks but mind the step as you turn to leave or you will fall off! No views to wash up to. Through a doorway at the back of the washing up room are the shower rooms. I use the term loosely. There are 2 small individual shower rooms on one side and one on the other and a individual sink room - which has a shaver and a normal socket. The smell in the sink room was so bad I couldn't stay in long enough to have a wash. The underfloor heating in the showers didn't seem to have any effect on the wet floors. Only one shower has an adjustable height and that one was also the best for temperature control. The other two were very hot. I heard several people commenting on this. There were far too many people on the campsite for the number of toilets and the totally inadequate washing facilities - note I do not mean dishwashing which seemed to cope ok with the demand.
Due to the haphazard pitching there was not a good area for children to play without disturbing other campers. The site was very noisy both from camping revellers and the road. The little road outside the campsite is a bus route and seems to have a regular service! All adding to the ambiance.
There was no 'nice grass' to pitch on so of course with that and the rain the tent came home with a lot of mud on it.
On the plus side, there is free wifi when you are near the toilets and it is a bt wifi hotspot. There were chicks which the children could freely pick up and a horse in the field and stable which they could stroke.
The shop was well stocked but after my daughter asked for a £1 to buy a large bottle of sprite to share with her friends and then came back with a 500ml bottle we didn't buy anything further.
We had an open fire which was nice but be aware you could easily get through the £5 bag of wood in an evening.
We went to Whinlatter forest which was nice enough. Good play areas for the kids. Exorbitantly expensive to park if you only wanted a walk.
Overall it was not at all relaxing and I definitely will not be going back.

Me and My friends spent 3 nights here and was the perfect site for what I had planned for us for the weekend. The views of Whinlatter and the Skiddaw Massif from our pitch was just majestic and I got some very picturesque photo's of our camp!
It was the perfect base for our plans as it is just a 5-10 minute drive from Keswick TC where we boarded the Derwent boat from the launch to conquer the family favourite Catbells not to mention all the other great stuff Keswick has to offer. We had brilliant weather during the day however it persistently rained for 2 of the nights and found the site drained very well.
The site shop had all the essentials needed for a happy camp including marshmallows for roasting on the open fire pits which are provided by the campsite and the site staff were very polite.
The toilet and shower facilities were also as good as you would expect if not better from a farm campsite. Overall a brilliant stay and will definitely be back again in the not too distant future. Many thanks Lanefoot Farm from a very happy camper.

We stayed for the first two weeks of the summer holiday. Lovely site that is a work in progress but the progress is being made quite quickly. Gareth and the family are delightful & knowledgeable.
Clearly we were blessed this summer with the weather which always helps. Everyday we were out walking and what a beautiful place to walk. We purchased a pocket guide of walks around Keswick by Richard Hallewell which made exploring very easy and I would strongly recommend getting a copy if Gareth has replenished his stock of it.
Children loved the site even though there were no clubhouses, play grounds etc. Back to the basics of making friends on the site and exploring, which they did a lot of even after some challenging walks.
All in all a really enjoyable time had by all and wouldn't hesitate to return to the site if we went back to that part of the Lakes.

My wife and I stayed here from the 7th - 13th July. It's an easy site to find being half a mile from the A66. We stayed in the camping field although would have preferred to be in the meadow area as it offers more privacy.
The facilities near the reception amount to :- 2 ladies toilets and a gents toilet/2 latrines, a washup area (3 sinks) connecting to 3 showers and a washroom (all unisex). With a further 2 toilets behind the low barn adjacent to the recycling area (we weren't made aware of these, we discovered them towards the end of our stay).
The reception also doubled up as a small on site shop where you can purchase various necessities including firewood, also a freezer to refreeze your cold blocks.
The site owners were around most of the time ensuring the facilities were kept clean without appearing to be too highly visible.
The site is only a few miles from Keswick, offering everything you would expect of a bustling town and only half a mile from the nearest pub (real beers, lagers and what looked like a reasonable menu).
When we camp we like to have a fire and enjoy some space around us and as we arrived on Sunday afternoon this is what we found. As the weekend approached (Friday) the place began to fill up rapidly, to the point where we were wondering where the site owner was thinking of putting any more new arrivals. Although not overcrowded, very busy would be a polite description.
If I were to return to this area of the Lakes in the future, I would seriously consider returning to this site but only if I were guaranteed an out of the way place in the meadow.

We visited this campsite for a 10 day Summer break. Whilst we had a terrific time exploring the Lake District, this site was anything but idyllic. Fields were badly kept & cramped, too many campers were on site at any one time, facilities were at best basic, nothing was kept clean and main toilet block being adjacent to rubbish area was just shocking. Even the water supplies to toilets (never mind drinking water taps) were overhead and hanging from bits of string. In the searing heat, this meant water was permanently warm. When we arrived the pitch we had booked (for a large tourer with awning) wasn't catered for as we were shown to a single hardstanding with a substantial drop to a small piece of grass which would never have sufficed. We were offered an alternative, but that was wedged tightly between two other tourers, and far from ideal. What's more, views from this site are not amazing- I had imagined it to be breathtaking, but its not. I could go on- toilets blocked and left, rubbish overflowing from bins and left, unisex showers with poor doors, leaking standing pipes, poor communications from the owners and not particularly friendly welcome on site, etc. I do not recommend this to anyone unless they want to be disappointed. Its obvious from my review that we will never return. It is the first time we have ever written a bad review in years of caravanning, so readers take heed!

Big group of us that go every year to a different site - 15 adults and 17 children or thereabouts.
First off, there are multiple fields you can camp in dependant on what you want. We had non ehu and were pretty cheek by jowl. Fairly lumpy and bumpy and grass was quite long.
Weather was glorious all weekend - we had a lovely time. On mass we climbed catbells and had a weekend of walking, eating and drinking.
Facilities were very basic so if you need luxury then this is not the place. If you are after fairly basic camping in the lakes then it is spot on.
I think it may have been pretty grim had it been cold and wet, happily it wasn't.

We visited the site on a nice sunny weekend, we were a family of four with two kids and my mum and dad. We had two pitches next to each other in the EHU field.
The campsite is fantastic, with lovely quiet fields, great views, lovely showers and toilet blocks. We hired a fire pit and toasted marshmallows at night! The owners are really friendly, and the kids loved playing in the stream or kicking a ball around.
The little shop on site was great, and we bought some free range eggs for brekkie. Good walks out of the site, or only a few miles to Whinlatter forest park.
We had a nice pint a the Middle Ruddings pub outside, lovely views of the hills etc. We also walked up Cat Bells which was great with the kids.
Really recommend this site, we would definitely return.
