Thanks to the owners of this rare gem of a campsite which is set in stunning surroundings. They are such welcoming people and made our stay feel very relaxing. The site is very well kept and lovely and clean, this is a site for people who embrace the true spirit of camping. There are plenty of activities on the doorstep, the Winnlaker forest is a must, it has something for everyone. The one pub that is within walking distance serves excellent homemade food and gives a warm welcome to walkers, bikers and families. This is a site that we will go back to over and over again.

I have a feeling this may be one of those reviews I regret leaving - when you find a gem you almost don't want to leave a good review in case it gets too popular and you cannot go back!
We loved this site and booked to go back before we left.
Plenty of open space and gorgeous views. Basic but spotless facilities. Friendly animals. Even friendly long-term-stay caravanners! (none of the seasonal pitch snobbery against incomers I have felt exposed to elsewhere)
The location is the best for all the wonders of the North Lakes. Whinlatter, Derwentwater, and Keswick all minutes away (by car), but not too far off the beaten track - you can get onto the A road in minutes. We could not hear the A road from the open field, although when we wandered around the beautiful meadow field we thought it was noticeable from there?
Very friendly welcome and on-going care.
The heated floor in the showers was very welcome after the horizontal snow all night!
Can't wait to go back :-)

We have been to this site many times and can really recommend it. On arrival we are warmly greeted by site owner and shown to our field, fantastic. Small, quiet and very friendly. We are then greeted again by the ducks and chickens roaming the field, they too are very friendly. OK. To business-
Site location, we did walk into Keswick as it was a lovely day, not too far few miles but 'do-able'. I think there is a bus service and not too far by car with plenty parking in town. Location as far as views go, perfect. Very close to mountains, cycle routes and small local walks, a great base. Also great for Winlatter Forest.
Facilities, They don't come much better than this. We have been to many many farm campsites and sometimes you can compromise on loo cleanliness, but these are beautifully tiles, well stocked, very clean with plenty of hot water. Love the new showers by the way.
This site is very child friendly, there is no fair ground rides, no child entertainers (the chickens and ducks do that), no candy floss stalls, no arcades but they do provide plenty of grass open space and loads of fresh air which kids of all ages love.
Customer service, there is always someone on hand to serve at the little shop which sells your essentials-bread milk sweets etc. Also just for a pleasant chat.
All in all a good site if your after something quiet to unwind and just take things easy.
Thanks guys keep up the good work

Having walked seen this campsite from Whinlatter Forest we were keen to try it out due to its proximity to the forest for mountain biking and walking. We arrived on Saturday and were shown a choice of fields to park up in. We chose the field behind the farm house which is mainly sloping undulating grass but you can find flat spots. Leveling chocks would be advised but we managed without. The field on the other side of the road has better views of the surrounding hills but we were not that bothered and wanted a bit of seclusion.
The toilets are all in little outbuildings next to the white farm house and were always clean and well stocked. The showers were unisex and did exactly what you would expect. There was also an indoor washing up area with plenty of information on the local area.
As mentioned before the farmer comes round in the evening checking everyone is ok and offering fire pits and wood to burn. In the morning there are a couple of very friendly hens who wonder around pecking all the dropped crumbs.
There are plenty of walks from this site up into the forest or towards Keswick which is about an hours walk away if you take the back roads.
We paid £15 for two adults per night in low season without electric

Two of us have just spent two nights in the Shepherd's Hut as the weather was forecast howling gales and torrential rain, and not having the facilities to dry a large tent we didn't wish to lose out on our planned week-end.
It was our first experience in a pod/shepherd's hut
And although we thought initially that it was a little pricey, it served it's purpose and kept us snug and dry on a wet week-end. It was basically an insulated shed measuring approximately 10ftx6ft.
Showing my age there but I can't think of the metric measurements! There were two lights and two electric sockets a small window and a double patio type door to enter.
The toilet/shower facilities were spotlessly clean
And the only gripe that I would probably have, is the absence of paper towels or electric hand dryers.
The washing up area is inside which is a bonus and there was a plentiful supply of hot water. The small shop sells bits and bobs. From what I could see there isn't a children's play area but that added to the peace and quiet of this charmingly situated site.
The farmer came round at tea time selling kindling and logs for a campfire at 6. 50p a bag. We had one for the first night and the bag of logs lasted about two hours which was long enough for us.
It is a no frills camp site, lovely and quiet, there were 4 or 5 other tents while we were there and no noise from anyone at 10pm.
The site is situated about 5 minutes drive from Keswick with the Whinlatter forest behind it. There are plenty takeaway/food shops in Keswick. The pubs do get extremely busy for foodies and there are some pubs which are dog friendly.
We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and we will certainly be going back to this site for more.

Had a week here just after the school holidays - until the weekend we had it to ourselves. We were in the field across the beck from the farmhouse. Muddy - the Lakes are known for rain, and they had had quite a bit, though we managed to catch an Indian summer.
I'd thoroughly recommend this site if you are looking for old school camping, as we all wish it should have been. Chickens and ducks (forgotten the breed, but the Jemima Puddleduck ones) wandering about the farmyard and stealing out dog's leftovers from inside the tent; the sounds of sheep, and watching crows mob a buzzard over the next field. Grey Ferguson tractor near the recycling bins (well organised). Local food, campfires with well-seasoned wood (sadly not local, but better than the damp stuff I bought in Keswick). A comfortable walk over the fields to pubs in Braithwaite, with friendly locals and Jennings rather excellent beer - tempted to live up to the nom-de-plume.

Stayed at Lanefoot for 6 nights mid September weather was raining and windy most of the time, but the tent held out and we had the site mainly to ourselves all week.
Very laid back place we just turned up and the very helpful, friendly owners were able to accommodate us with EHU, 2 out of 3 of the fields were water logged from constant rain. Our pitch was on a bit of a slope and road noise could be heard from A66.
The views are fantastic and there is plenty to do in the area despite the weather, we did have a couple of warm, dry days.
The showers were new but were kind of in the out house and were supposed to have underfloor heating but it wasn't working until the day we left. You had to walk through the washing up area to get to the showers which were unisex. A bit of a strange set up but the owners have made the best of the space they have.
All in all a nice site

Spent 3 nights here over a very wet weekend, we were camped in the open field, lovely campsite and great views despite the constant low cloud and rain, I imagine it would be even better on a nice day!
The toilet facilities were fine, clean and didn't need to queue for them as the site wasn't too busy,
The field was sodden but that was just due to the excessive rain of the week before,
Being able to have campfires is good too, adds to the challenge getting the fire lit in the rain but we had 2 fires out of 3 nights which was pretty good,
I'd stop here again.
The chickens wandering round the site was a refreshing change too, even if they were a little too inquisitive (don't leave your tents open and unattended as you may end up with room mates)
All in all a good site in a good location.

Excellent clean facilities, wonderful views and caring owners on this farm site complete with chickens everywhere. Lovely farm shop.
However, for those who don't like tents mixed with touring caravans, this is not the site for you. The main field with touring caravans and hardstandings/EHU is mixed with tents.
Although the owner did come and tell a group of youngsters to switch their music off and keep the noise down (after an evening of loud music and dance!) the noise from the tents did impact inside our caravan. Goodness knows what it would be like during the main season. The website does say no groups but there were groups on the site.
Also for those with young families, if you are put in the main field, caravanners or tenters, be aware that the toilets/showers etc are located across the lane.
The site is divided into 2 parts by this lane but all facilities are on one side by the farm house. It is a very quiet lane and the owner has put warning signs up for the occasional traffic, but I personally would not let children go to the toilets on their own.
Also the area for the children to play is where the tents pitch, so facilities for children are limited. This has put me off booking again with the children.

Just come back from a great week at Lanefoot Farm. The owners were very welcoming and helpful, nothing was too much trouble.
The site has added more toilet facilities, the farm has a shop that has all the things that you need, recommend the bacon.
The chickens still run round and now there is a group of ducks. The views are to die for. Keswick is about 5mins drive, with a supermarket, and market days are Saturday and Thursday.
There is a nice pub in Keswick that does reasonable meals (The Oddfellowes).
