What a fantastic site! Although helped by the scorching weather this weekend, our three night stay here just left us wanting more!
We came with friends, one of whom has only ever experienced wild camping and was sceptical of organised sites. All the elements of this site served to impress. The location is fantastic - we were in the main field looking over Skiddaw to the east and Whinlatter Forest's densely wooded slopes to the north west. Far enough from the facilities to give the impression of independent camping yet in reality just a field's walk away. There are only three toilets per sex and one shower each, but chatting with Gareth, the owner, we learned this is something to be improved next season. Although we were all in agreement not to go too far in spoiling the essence of the place. Top marks for cleanliness and upkeep.
If you want commercialism, don't go. There is no play area as such but the farm garden has a trampoline and paddling pool and seems to be open to kids at certain times. There is a stream nearby, and our ten year old was certainly not bored. There is a little shop selling essentials, and the bags of wood supplied for the camp fires are enough to keep them burning till at least 2am. We know! Quiet rules apply after 10.30pm. But sitting out chatting quietly is certainly no problem.
The four ducks waddling round each day caused much amusement, and the visit of one of the farm's collies each afternoon checking out the tents gave our Jack Russell something to look forward to! She loved the walks nearby and has slept solidly since getting home!
Can't add much else - just go and make your own mind up! Check out the shooting stars on a clear night!
We will definitely be back!

What a find. Fantastic location! Facilities are a little basic, (but that's just how we like it, no club house etc.) this site is on a farm after all and the facilities are very clean. Gareth, the owner is very friendly and helpful. We (3 of us) stayed in our tent (with EHU) for 3 nights and can't wait to return. My daughter loved the trailer rides that gareth does in the evening around the field. The lake is a short cycle ride away and whinlatter forest a short drive away. You can cycle from the site but we found it easier to drive there, then cycle around the forest.
We are experienced campers and would rate this site overall at 8.5 out of 10.

We spent a few very rainy days in the Lakes however our enjoyment of our stay was due to staying at Lanefoot Farm campsite.
We pitched in the smaller meadow which is a pretty area and quiet. We managed to sit round an open campfire one evening (a break in the rain!), the fire container - a wheel rim and wood being supplied by the friendly owner, Gareth, at a really good value price of £4.
The facilities were great - clean, well maintained and lots of hot water. Although there is only one shower per gender we never had to queue. Recycling facilities exist and are a welcome sight.
A short walk away is a pub and the site is only 2.5 miles from Keswick where outdoor shops are every few footsteps!
We intend to return in the near future.

Having spotted this campsite on this website and having read the reviews, I thought I would give it a try and I'm so pleased that I did.
Gareth (the owner and definitely 'Mr Friendly and Helpful') told me when we called en-route that he was fully booked but nevertheless told me to turn up and he would fit us in. We (my son of 4 and I) pitched up on the main field by the road without a problem and the views were idillic - Whitlatter Forset to the left and over Bassenthwaite to Skiddaw to the right. Unbelieveable beauty, even for the Northeast Lakes.
The site did get a little busy (but with it being the first weekend of Half Term and also Bank Holiday weekend, what did I expect.!) and the comments regarding the amenities already posted are correct BUT DON'T LET THIS PUT YOU OFF. For the 2 nights we stayed I never saw a queue for either the gents or the showers. The amenities that are there are spotless and enough of everything from loo roll to hot water.
The clincher for me regarding this site and something I've never found permissable anywhere else is that fires are allowed. For the princely sum of £3, Gareth supplied an old steel wheel and more than enough wood for a fire to last into the early hours - something all the children on the site seemed to love!
There is a small playground consitsting of a large trampoline, slide and swing but staying here means you're in the Lakes and there's never a shortage of things to do (especially Whitlatter Forest Park with the new 'Go Ape' attraction)
The location of this site, the very reasonable fees and the outstanding care and helpfulness for guests by the owners has ruined me for other sites in the locality.
It's not a question of if we'll be back but how many weeks until we can re-visit. A real gem and if you want a site close to Keswick but far enough away, you will not be disappointed.

Just returned from a fabulous week at Lanefoot Farm - helped very much by the beautiful weather. We pitched our tent in the meadow field which felt very secluded and peaceful, although slightly bumpy if you have a large tent. The owners were incredibly helpful and friendly, and were more happy to freeze ice packs for us every day and allow our 3 yr old to play in their garden. As previously stated, there is only 1 shower per sex which we never found a problem as the campsite wasn't too busy. We were told however that there are plans to make a larger shower block in one of the barns. Facilities were always spotless, with plenty of loo paper and lots of hot water. This campsite is in a fantastic location for exploring the rest of the lakes and the views from the campsite itself are breathtaking. The icing on the cake was sitting round a camp fire toasting marshmallows!

After a small detour (look out for the sign for the Gallery) we found the narrow country lane and farm buildings which make up the hub of the campsite. We were greeted by Gareth, who was very friendly and showed us where to pitch out tent.
We pitched on a football sized field with plenty of room for the kids to run around in. There were glorious views of the mountains and was flanked by a country road on one side, which you would only notice when an occasional bus or lorry drove past, and a field full of sheep on the other, which the kids loved, especially when a couple escaped!
The Coledale Inn, less than 1 mile away, served good pub grub and is very child friendly as they serve children’s meals and have an outdoor garden area. Keswick is only a short drive away where all supplies can be obtained although we found it quite busy during our half term visit.
The camp facilities are a little basic but were always spotless with plenty of loo roll and hot water. There are two showers one for the gents (over a bath with no plug!) and one shower for the ladies. We didn't think this was enough, saying that, we never had to queue even though the site was fairly busy.
Any minor niggles we may of had were far outweighed by the charm, location and simplicity of the site and the friendliness and helpfulness of the owners. We can only recommend this site and would hope that other families get as much enjoyment from Lanefoot Farm as we did. We will definitely be returning.

Agree with previous review. The owners are welcoming and really friendly. We stayed in the main field close to the road, which was a bit noisy. It probably would have been better over the other side, but we arrived close to midnight, so just chose the first place we could find. Arriving late was no problem - we had phoned to say we would be late.
We stayed over the bank holiday weekend and the site was full. There were 3 female toilets and one shower and one shower for the men (not sure how many toilets), but we didn't have to wait long to use either. Facilities were kept very clean and the showers were hot and free.
Dogs are welcome at the campsite.
Pub about 10 mins walk away serves good food. Close to Keswick if you want shops, and good location as a base for walking or cycling.
Would recommend this site if you want non-commercialised camping.

From our arrival at Lanefoot to when we left My wife and I were delighted with the friendiness of Gareth and Helen. We arranged for our stay over the telephone, although this wasn't needed. We were welcomed by Helen who showed us our options of where we could pitch and we were shown the facilities on site. The toilets were clean and there are 2 water taps in easy reach. I liked the idea of there being a room next to the shower that was a sort of communial area with a wooden bench in and maps of the area and leaflets.
The farm itself has real charm and has an abundance of wildlife around. The area is riddled with footpaths and the campsite is an excellent base for both walkers and sight seeing.
Although the track to the top field was difficult to get up with a car and trailer it was worth the effort. It had been raining very heavy before we arrived.
There is a small copse around the top field with a good variation of trees and as we found out a resident woodpecker who seemed to like to be photographed. I am pleased I packed my camera as I took 83 photos in the short time we were there. The surrounding landscape is breathtaking.
We purchasd logs at £3 a bag and were supplied with a wheel rim as our fire grate. This seems to be the norm' as its what is used on other sites.
I was pleased that re cycling is encouraged by Gareth and Helen and that various bins are supplied for the use of.
I felt reluctant to submit this review as I feel 'we' have found a Gem of a campsite thats non commercial and in harmony with nature and would dislike it if it got too popular,However beauty needs to be shared and I hope that it doesn't become a victim of its own success that I have seen happen to other sites of this simplistic quality.
We will certainley visit Lanefoot again and would highley recommend the site to anyone who likes REAL camping.Thank you.

Just turned up at this site after seeing it on ukcampsite. We were given the choice of two fields to pitch in. We asked about campfires and were told this was ok as long as we used the wheel rims provided, so we were well impressed with that as we didn't expect to be allowed the fire.
The ground was firm and well drained. The weather was fine while we were there, but apparently it'd been pretty wet for the previous week or so.
We stayed for 4 nights and were the only tent on the field we pitched in until last night when a few other tents pitched, but there was plenty enough room for us all to have loads of space between tents. The water point was conveniently located at the entrance to the field.
There are two lovely hot electric showers, one of which is over a bath on this site. The showers are included in the price which was five pounds per person per night. There are 5 toilets and a urinal on this site and also a washing up area. Overall I think the facilities are adequate for a site of this size, and were clean every time we used them.
There are two pubs locally which at about half a mile away each are well within walking distance after a few light refreshments.
This site is located in a lovely picturesque area conveniently close to Keswick, Derwent water and the surrounding fells.
There was no shop on site, but we don't usually bother with them anyway and there are plenty of places to get supplies around Keswick.
Overall a gem of a site if you like simple camping with none of the 'holiday camp' feeling of the more commercial sites. We'd definitely recommend and return in the future.

We have just returned from six days on this site. There had been a lot of rain the day before we arrived and the site was quite wet. On arrival we were greeted by the owners, Gareth and Helen, who pointed us in the direction of a very nice pitch. It was up the hill and unfortunately because of the wet we started to spin. However, Gareth came to the rescue and with a little push we got up the hill. Soon we were set up and raring to go and explore the site. There are two toilets for ladies and two for gents. They have two showers of which one had a bath. Also they had a washing up area and an information room. All were kept in a very clean condition. The pitches were of a good size and not marked, and a good distance from the next campers. The site is on a slope but the pitches were reasonably level. There are a few hook-up points, best to book in advance if you require one. Unfortunately there is not much for the kids to do, apart from plenty of room. The pictures on their website will give you a good idea of how the site looks, they are very recent pictures. To me this site is how camping is meant to be, a little rough and ready when wet, but sound when dry. Overall it was a nice site for peace and quiet with friendly owners who are in the process of improving the site so it is better during wet periods. About the immediate area: Just a short walk (15 - 20 minutes) or cycle ride ( 5 - 10 minutes), you come to the village of Braithwaite with three very good pubs. The first one you encounter is the Middle Ruddings which is a hotel. Excellent food to be had here, although pricey, it is well worth the money. The next is the Royal Oak, reasonably priced and again, an excellent meal. A little further on you come to the Coledale, again reasonably priced and great food. All serve an excellent variety of real ales, ( yes, I did try them all! ). Not that good if you are a lager drinker, as most only had one or two on offer. There is also a small village shop. All in all a very nice place to stay, and when I next visit the area this is where I will be headed for!
