It's a year since we first stayed at Lanefoot, so we were very happy to be back there in the glorious late May/early June weather. We arrived to sunny, blue skies and left with lots of great memories, again under blue skies. I'd forgotten just what a beautiful spot this is, the view over to Skiddaw was particularly breath taking.

Since our last stay, part of the meadow field has been terraced, making it more tent/van friendly. We camped on the middle terrace, so had fantastic views over the site to the fells beyond. After a nose around the two camping fields, we still prefer the Meadow, as its more secluded, broken up by trees and a stream, with hookup (which we used). Reminds me of the good bits of childhood camping trips.

The site was full, yet we only queued once for the warm, clean showers. The only downside was the absence of the runner ducks, shame as they were delightful last time we stayed.

After posting some photos on Facebook, friends saw the site and, to cut a long story short, we're going back in August with them. Can't wait.

We came across a fantastic place to hire canoes, Wayfarers, and kayaks, very relaxed and friendly staff, with a great cafe (the scones are unbelievably good, possibly the best in the Lakes, according to many reviewers on Trip Advisor). It's called Nichols End Marine and is located on the western shore of Derwent Water, just South of Portinscale, look out for the brown signs as you head out of the village. Two perfect days on the water - who could ask for more?

Visited this site just for a couple of nights. Did not really like it. Very close to the main road so was noisy. Our pitch was next to the recycling skips so all we could hear was people throwing bottles in. Didn't like that the showers and toilets were being unisex especially with a small child. The showers were very cold. I don't think I will be returning

Just spent five nights at Lanefoot farm in the glorious Cumbrian sunshine. Not much to add to what others have said; facilities nice and clean, unlimited piping hot water, the owner not too intrusive.

However and I must stress that this is not the owners fault, our last two nights where somewhat spoiled by 3 loud groups that had chosen to pitch near us. There was an extremely large extended family group that stayed up till the small hours, music blasting and talking loudly. The other 2 groups came back to their tents after midnight, decided to start their campfires and carried on partying throughout the night. When we mentioned this to the owner he could not apologise enough and the next night spoke to the offending parties (not with much success unfortunately).

I don't want to sound like a moaning old fart, we get drunk round the fire till the wee hours, but the noise was unbelievable, more like a festival campsite. We have never experienced anything like it before whilst camping

If you prefer a quieter camping experience then I would recommend trying to pitch on the smaller meadow field, nearer the farmhouse, if you are able to. There is a freezer that you can freeze your blocks in at the rather pricey 20p per block which amounted to £5 extra and wood is £5 per bag. We brought our own wood but bought some from the site and made it last

Stayed at Lanefoot in a camping pod, great alternative for normally tent campers! Ideal when it's wet, handy electric socket and great little heater to keep the pod warm for a few hours in the evening.

Dogs allowed in the pod which was big bonus for us!

Nice fire pit too, logs £5 per bag!

Toilets and showers were limited, site was pretty quiet so no waiting around but I would imagine at busier times, there would be a wait for them! Showers lovely and hot though.

Lovely location and great pubs, ate in the Middle Ruddings-nice food but a little posh for walking clothes!

Pheasant Inn Keswick was great food and lovely atmosphere, about 3 miles from the site.

Lovely and friendly owner, always available for questions (not sure when he gets time to sleep!) would definitely return!

Visited for a long weekend at the end of May and had some glorious weather for our stay. The views from the campsite are lovely, we stayed at the top of the small hill above the meadow field with electric hook up which worked just fine.

The facilities were not great in my opinion, although an effort was made to keep them clean the toilets were essentially outside toilets with a lot of through traffic walking past the door whilst you were in there. The showers were ok but not enough of them for the amount of people staying.

I got the impression there were too many people staying for the facilities they had, there was always a queue ( 4/5 people at a time) to wash up and the showers were the same which can mean delays when you want to just go out in the morning.

Saying that we enjoyed the stay, the area is fantastic, if you like a walk we walked into keswick from the campsie for some lunch and a couple of nice cold beers, but probably would not go back to this particular campsite because of the facilities.

This was a nice little campsite with good surrounding views and friendly hosts. When we arrived there had been a lot of rain so we were encouraged to go look to make sure we could get a decent pitch first. We managed to find a spot and got set up.

The facilities were good and clean, and the shower was free whenever we needed one. My only issue was that it got very busy, I like to find a secluded spot but we were surrounded by other campers, fair enough but just not my preference. At the time we were just lucky to find a campsite that wasn't completely waterlogged, which is why I presume, it was so busy as others had found the same.

The surrounding area is very nice, really enjoyed Keswick, would recommend a boat on Derwentwater not too far away. Reasonably priced too.

We found Lanefoot via this website. We read several positive reviews, which encouraged us to book - in preference for staying in the popular large site by Derwent Water. We stayed for 14 nights.

We were not disappointed. We arrived in rain and left in rain. We battled with mud, rain, hail and a morning with frost on the tent. But the experience was fantastic!

The facilities at Lanefoot are excellent - underfloor heated showers - always clean and tidy, with constant hot water. Clean toilets. Warm washing up area with three sinks - again plentiful hot water. A drying room for wet gear - much needed during our stay! A well stocked little shop. Possibility to freeze cold blocks - 20p each.

Helpful service provided by the owners. They could do nothing about the mud, but they made our stay a very pleasant one. We heartily recommend Lanefoot.

What an Excellent place, Four of us stayed in a big tent with an electric hookup.

We picked this site as we were allowed a campfire which really gives us the experience we were looking for. The owner comes round with timber and kindling for your fire at night but you can just call down to the on site shop which also stocks any essentials.

The Toilets were, well lets call them 'functional' rather than elegant but importantly clean! The newly refurbished showerblock / Washroom with heavenly underfloor heating (it hit -5oC one night, would have liked to have slept on it!) were wonderfully warm and clean with plenty of hot water

As amateurs we pitched on a bit of a slope on the field which meant we migrated down the slope on our airbeds / mattresses during the night (so as a general tip for any Newbies - Don't do that)

All in all a lovely place, we were blessed with Crystal clear skies for star gazing and a couple of passes of the ISS too!

Its an Isolated place, so you either have to be a keen, or happy to be a, walker or use a car to get around. Whinlatter forest is literally next door, I think next time we'll take our bikes.

Might be a good idea for the owners to install some high security Bike storage, as didn't see any (Although didn't ask) and seems a prime base spot for a days MTB

Like so many reviewers before us we really liked this campsite.

We camped in August and the site was quite busy, especially over the weekend. We were in the top Meadow field behind the farm house. Our pitch was quite slopey but we adapted well enough.

The views were amazing and the chickens entertaining. One stole a loaf of plum bread which I had thought was out of reach and wrapped up in a carrier bag - so how the hen knew there was something edible in there I have no idea. Smarter than they look it would appear! The sheep in the field behind us were quite chatty one night but for us that was part of the package and we didn't have a problem with that.

I can't add to what other reviewers have said about the facilities or the owner who was always there if needed. We found everything clean and although busy queues didn't last for long.

The campfires were great and even though the weather was variable with plenty of wet stuff we still managed a camp fire on 5 out of 7 evenings. Another important thing for us was a good nights sleep and we were delighted that noise wasn't an issue at all after 10pm.

We will be back again and can't wait for our next visit. Maybe the weather will be kinder to us next time.

Beautiful area. Friendly owners, clean and not overbooked.

Campfires are allowed.

Not enough showers and toilets so had to queue, they were kept clean and owner constantly mopping.

I believe they offer EHU in another field, we didn't use this facility.

A must visit with children is Whinlatter forest as they have a free kids play area which will easily kill 2 hours (take a picnic as cafe is expensive).

Keswick 5 minutes drive away where there is a Booths supermarket.

Nice pub with outside seating area in Thornthwaite just before farm.

We spent all day trying to find a beach on the lake, we had no success. We were told later on in the day that there is a great place to play in a stream just past the pub (ask the owner of the campsite, he will direct you)

Will definitely visit again.
